Never heard of the last two, if you want a gaming card, it's gotta be a Radeon. I'm waiting awhile until prices for the 9600 come down a bit, but if you want a good one now, get the 9200 AGP.

My current one too, is bollocks. That would be a GeForce 2 64MB.
    Old.

Im buying a new graphics card, but I too am on a budget, Im buying 512MB stick of RAM [so my total will now be 1GB] and I can pick up a pretty cheap GeForce 4 128MB.[40 quid, not bad? ??? ]

I would love to buy a GeForce 6600, I saw one on eBay for 130quid, 256MB version too. But I cant be bothered waiting for it, my processor prolly wouldnt be able to use all of its features anyway. Plus I only need it for RCT3, not for much else.

What do you guys think of the GeForce 4? Im not too expertised in this area, yet. Do you think it will be smooth?

If you're only gonna play RCT3 it will be suffice, HOWEVER do NOT!!!!! buy a Geforce 4MX (or any with MX in it)
Those are very very bad (it's an upgraded Geforce2 chip and not an actual Geforce4).

On a related note... do NOT buy a Radeon with SE at the end... trust me on this...

I have the 9600pro, its a nice card, can handle most med-high graphics. Don't expect it to run RCT3 full settings though. Saying that, it played Far Cry on med-high settings and thats far more demanding than RCT3...

Wait for the specs for RCT3 when the full game comes out.

^ I have the same card. I'm very satisfied with its performance. It run RCT3 on the highest level of detail smoothly! It's not too pricy aswell... I'd go with that! :D
  • Toon%s's Photo
I just bought a 9600XT and am very happy with it's performance. I can run the RCT3 demo smoothly on full settings except on coaster cam which is just a little bit choppy (but barely noticable unless your really looking for it). Price's are starting to come down on the 9600 as I paid 189.00 cdn for mine (about 140.00 U.S.).

I guess that doesn't really answer your question tho.

What's the difference between, say, a
"Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro Advantage 256MB DDR AGP VGA TV-Out DVI-I Retail Box"
    and a
    "PowerColor Radeon 9600 Pro EZ 256MB DVI / TV-out Retail Boxed" ?

What do all the letters at the end mean?

Also, would a 128MB video card that's included in a new computer be suitable for RCT3, or would I need to buy something like a Radeon 9600 mega-thingy-ma-wotsit DRFVCBDP... ???

i wen ton new egg and im buying a 9,800 pro offline..woo hoo

Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro Advantage 256MB DDR AGP VGA TV-Out DVI-I Retail Box

radeon 9600 with 256mb of ddr ram. it goes in a agp slot on your motherboard. vga is some video thing. tv out i think means you can connect your tv to it maybe. dvi-i might be something to do with digital video input. and retail box means its in the box that it would be in if you were buying it in the store.

PowerColor Radeon 9600 Pro EZ 256MB DVI / TV-out Retail Boxed

radeon 9600 with 256mb of ram with probally digital video and tv out slots plugs or something and the reatail box is the same as above

computers suck. i hoped that helped a little.

It's just a card made by different manufacturers, but with the same graphics chip. There are some slight differences between brands and I probably would choose the Sapphire one.

TV-out: allows you to connnect your computer to a TV or something else
DVI: this is the digital connector for your monitor. This one is only used for TFT monitors. Some TFT-screens don't have DVI, but if they have the best results are connecting them with DVI.
I'll explain why there are two kinds of connectors.

-a CRT monitor need an analog signal. A videocard is digital. To let it work the digital signal needs to be converted to an anolog one. Therefore a graphics card has a RAMDAC (the convertor)
-a TFT screen is a screen that is digital and it doesn't need an analog signal, so that's why the graphics card also has a digital output, eliminating the RAMDAC and making it faster. That's the DVI-port

    I have a Radeon 9800pro btw :D (and a 19"CRT & 18,1"TFT)
