Today I found out that I run with Bobby Kielty's cousin on a daily basis.
...that's all I got. -

Yes, quite a smart move by him. He says he will try to pitch anyway.Hey guys.
Let's give a big hand to Kevin Brown for being a complete douche!
...do you get it. Hand. Heh, heh.
I still have hopes for the Astros....they are starting to win. -

Too bad about Bobby Kielty. It's tough to go from being a starter to being a backup but we love us some Eric Byrnes in Oakland and Mark Kotsay and Jermaine Dye have been having great seasons with the bat too. I like Bobby Kielty so I kindof hope he gets traded in the off season to a team where he actually gets to play. -

like the Red Sox, because that would equal free tickets for the cross-country team.Too bad about Bobby Kielty. Really though, it's fuckin weird. He told me the other day, "yeah my cousin plays for Oakland" because he was trying to get tickets for some of us to go to a game in September, except the only remaining A's series is out in Oakland. I figured it was some guy on the triple-A team or the bullpen catcher or something. But it's Bobby Kielty! He's a pretty decent player! The last name should have been a hint.
PS- Erik Byrnes sucks. -

Ed -wish I could tell you about the wild card. Really I have no idea, although of course I would hope the Padres would sneak in. I know exactly what you mean about the padres not having any stars--they don't, except for Mark Loretta. What they do have is a lot of solid players who constantly come through with the big plays and performances, which is something we have lacked in the past. Our bullpen has had no weak links since early this year, and I'm pretty sure that we have still not lost a game in which Aki Otsuka, Scott Linebrink (setup men) and Trevor Hoffman all pitch. What we haven't seen in awhile is a huge pressure hit or something to create a victory, but last night we got a three run homer from Phil Nevin to give us a 7-6 win. Anyway. Enough blabbery.
Here's what I'm worried about. In my opinion the Padres are as good or better than the other teams in the wild card. The Cubs have had their injury problems but it's not just that, for some reason this just doesn't seem like their year (again, sorry Cub fans). The Giants, Marlins, Padres, and Astros are all solid, especially the Astros. But get this. The Padres roll into St. Louis and get whalloped. Three times. In a row. Then, the Dodgers, on a seemingly endless winning streak and still leading the West by 7 games, roll into town and get a rude awakening. Twice. The wild card team plays the best team, right?... That's why I think the Padres and Giants are in a slightly advantaged position because at least they both still have a chance to win their division. Wait. Now that I think about it. If the Cubs or Astros were the wild card they wouldn't play the Cardinals because they're in the same division. So I guess it just sucks for the Marlins. But who knows, in a best out of 5 anything may happen. -

If the AL East keeps on going the way it is (and I hope so), it'd be the most hilarious thing ever and basically reaffirm the "A-Rod Curse." That is, (excluding his first couple of seasons), any team with A-Rod will not make the playoffs. I'd love for it to be Angels, A's, Red Sox, and Twins in the AL, with the Dodgers, Cardinals, Braves, and whoever in the NL (maybe the Marlins, since they're defending champs.
The Cardinals, however, are just damn scary. They're what the Yankee's could have been had they good starting pitching that didn't punch walls. They're what the Angels could have been had their pitchers performed to their potential.
I've just watched a pretty good Dodger team get wiped by the Cardinals two days in a row (hopefully today will be a salvage game). Frankly, I don't think there is a team that wouldn't get wiped by them right now. They've become a perpetual winning machine. So I definitely don't want to see them in the playoffs!
Right now, you'd have to say that the World Series would be Red Sox vs Cardinals given the recent hotness of both teams (if the playoffs started today).
NL Wild Card will be really fun: Marlins and Astros have come out of nowhere; Cubs have some life; Pads and Giants are both doing better than expected. Now THIS is what a wild card race is supposed to be.
It's been a great season. -

Yes the thought of the Yankees not making the playoffs (with a 180 million dollar payroll no less) still seems remote but it is a possibility and putting division rivalries aside, I really must thank the Red Sox, Angels, and Rangers (along with the A's of course) for playing so well and giving us that hint of something beautiful. -

Thank you Kevin Brown? (dumbass)
Oh, and you're welcome Ed, us Sox are quite happy too.
I wonder if Mick is still in denial....yes?

Is it me (yes, a tad biased), but are the Yankees just looking more embarrassing with each day? The lead is down to 2.5, they had that 22-0 (at home) loss last week, Kevin Brown got pissy and broke his hand (which leaves an already weak starting pitching staff without one of their better pitchers)...
So, what could they do to top that? They ask the League office for a forfeit win because the DRays couldn't get in town in time to play a double header? Really? A free win due to a delay from a natural disaster (nevermind it's the 2nd hurricane in the last 3 weeks). I don't know what everyone else thinks, but that's cheap and insensitive. The DRays stayed home to make sure their families were ok, and the Yankees are more concerned about getting a win 'cos they know they don't have the pitching to hold their AL East lead.
Oi.
Go DRays!
Oh, and yea for the Sox with a nice win tonite in Oakland. Big-time ball that was.

That's just sad. The league kindly suspended play when New York was attacked. They should at least be considerate enough to let stuff slide when Florida gets fucked. -

Saw the story on SportsCenter, and also this article...petty, petty petty.
The last game forfeited in MLB was in freaking 1902, and that's because the NY Giants essentially purchased/stole the NL Baltimore team's players, depleting their roster so they didnt have enough to play St. Louis. Now there's a reason...

I'm not at all suprised that the Yankees asked for a forfeit win. The NYY see themselves as an invincible group of all-star players, and after a loss like last weeks, they couldn't take another blow to their ego such as a loss to the Devil Rays. -

Boy there must be some kind of black hole surrounding the A's whenever the Red Sox come to town. That was some freaky shit happening last night. First the ump blows a totally obvious call (which he proves is obvious by calling the exact same play correctly one inning later). And can I go on the record right now and join the "Manny Ramirez is a jerk" club? Alright so if that weren't bad enough (and that was pretty damn bad. they were throwing trash on the field for ten minutes and I would have been doing the same) then a sure double play ball results in no outs in the top of the ninth because it hits the grass and bounces so high that it doesn't land until both runners are safe. See what I mean? Freaky shit. This is when the game is 4-3 by the way. Hardly a Red Sox blowout and if that bad call hadn't happened in the 8th, who knows. So on the next play David Ortiz hits a fly ball which goes to the wall and sticks there. Instead of no runners on base, both runners score. Unbelievable. You know the A's have lost at this point because they're clearly as pissed off as every A's fan watching the game is. Those are the types of games which kill you. I know because we went through three in a row against the Red Sox to end the season last year. So anyway, that's the view from over here and I hope the A's make the Red Sox pay for their freaky luck with a rout tonight.
As for the Yankees, there's really nothing else to say. Asking the DRays to forfeit because of a natural disaster is kind of like the Republicans and Democrats throwing huge parties for their delegates while people throughout the country continue to live in poverty conditions. Those on top would like nothing better than to push the rest of us down further. -

^ Ditto.
Even though they swept the halo's last week, which was lame. But ya... 4 in a row now, lol... Angels baby. -

All I know is...I'm quite happy. Swept the Angels. 2 of 3 from Texas, and now guaranteed of at least 2 of 3 from the A's (in Oakland!). ESPN said it'd be interesting how we faired in "running the gauntlet". Assured of a 7-2 mark at worst, any team would have to consider that a success.
It will be interesting to see how the Angels, A's and Rangers fair when they do the same (with a bunch of home and home series) these next 3 weeks. Whichever one can be as successful as the Sox have been against the same teams will be the AL West champ...or maybe they all go roughly .500 against each other and nothing changes?
