I read this article and wanted to pass it on. It certainly describes my parents well. Enjoy.
USA Today Opinion Column
And on a vaguely related note, I watched this VH1 show comparing how much "bling-bling" George Bush and John Kerry have and it strengthened my conviction that I'm not voting for either one. They're like Coke and Pepsi, sure they're public rivals but they're really on the same side. Oh and for those who are curious: my vote -

I don't understand who wouldn't vote for Walt Brown. Who wouldn't want to live in that sort of society?.. Moore is really a great writer as well as filmmaker. -

A vote for Brown is a vote for COMMUNISM!I read this article and wanted to pass it on. It certainly describes my parents well. Enjoy.

No really, it is. Look at that guy. Christ. -

What are you, retarted?
"Under Communist states, decisions are made by Communist Party officials, the bureaucracy and the military. The inevitable product of each system is a class society with gross inequality of privileges, a draining of the productive wealth and goods of the society into military purposes, environmental pollution, and war in which workers are compelled to fight other workers."
God, it says right on the platform that the Socialists hate communism. Stupid.
Wait, politicians always tell the truth, right?
I think this one is, though. -
Jellybones Offline
Well yeah, but Republicans say they don't hate gay people.
Something about this socialism shit that I don't trust. I don't trust it at all. -

I actually find the article pretty much on target in that Republicans really are more open minded than their party in general...although with the Christian wrong muddled into that equation, it really factors out to be what you see in the political party, because the Republican platform is run by a highly Christian authority. (Which is sickening, because Christians, God bless'em, cannot keep their damn bible out of the government )
The point is, I don't listen to much national conservative radio but my school founder and president is a highly elevated member of the Christian Conservatives, and a good friend of KOGO radio, a local conservative station. Roger Hedgecock, the evening drive host, does shows at my school all the time () and I can tell you that the principles almost never enter into it. Basically what people want to hear (I guess) is making fun of any non-republicans (mostly democrats) and telling people how they tax us too much. It is, as mentioned, all about the money. -

From the party platform:A vote for Brown is a vote for COMMUNISM!
No really, it is. Look at that guy. Christ.
"Democratic socialism is a political and economic system with freedom and equality for all, so that people may develop to their fullest potential in harmony with others. The Socialist Party is committed to full freedom of speech, assembly, press, and religion, and to a multi-party system. We are dedicated to the abolition of male supremacy and class society, and to the elimination of all forms of oppression, including those based on race, national origin, age, sexual preferences, and disabling conditions."
Socialism is not communism, socialism is real democracy.
oh and Micool, you're a Padres fan? Good for you. -

Yeah, that looks great on paper, but the only way I can possibly see that working is if the entire government was under Socialist control. And that's a worrying thought. -

ahem.. look at most of Europe today my friend. Socialist have won in the Scandinavian nations, Germany, Austria, and Spain. do they seem all evil and such? they still have elections also. its democracy but a socialist party can run. its a form of communism i think, but a more much more lenient form and that truly benefits the people.
omg... can America bear this? a party that makes sense? why not make picket signs and put the website address up? something to make the party more known to the public. i never knew the party was running at all. i thought it died out long ago in America.
really... the two party system....will be America's....downfall.....
fair elections for all, no matter what they are. let them be heard by the public. -

Uh oh, not all republicans think the same.
Good thing all democrats have the same views on every issue. -
Coaster Ed Offline
That's not the point. The point is that people settle on a party on the basis of a few key issues and what they're actually getting may not be what they want. Republicans and Democrats like to make fun of each other but if they just wrote down the things they believe in, what they value, they would probably have very similar lists. So really it just comes down to whose rhetoric you believe in more. And then there's the rest of us who think the Republican and Democratic parties combined only represent a percentage of the total population and we need more than two legitimate parties to be a true democracy. -

Horay for stereotypes!
I think Mr. Bastiat said it best, "The Socialists Want Dictatorship."
The idea of socialism and self governing democracy is a contradiction. Socialism says people cannot take care of themselves and need the government and yet relies on these incompetents to be the decision makers. You cannot be both the best at making your decisions and the worst. -

I somewhat agree with you and for that I will never forgive myself.Horay for stereotypes!

Maybe you should read the party platform first mr. stereotypes because I think you'll be surprised. Socialism gives people more freedom not less freedom. It does not say people can't govern themselves, it says that capitalism results in class based society - which it does. It says that production should benefit all of humanity rather than making a few people super rich and the rest poor. It says we should develop industry and means of production which will allow us to exist on this Earth without destroying it. It says education, health care, and employment are rights that all people should have. I'm sure from your white middle class point of view Socialists taking away your money is equatable to dictatorship but that's only because you can afford education and health care and have the resources and background to get a high paying job. Capitalism is not freedom, it is not democracy. It is imperialism. It is facsism. Mussolini himself said so ("Facsism should rightly be defined as corporatism, as it is the merger of state and corporate power.") Democrats, though they may call themselves liberals, are conservative. Republicans are just more conservative.
If you believe all people have equal right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. If you believe in equal rights. If you believe in a class free society where people of all races, all religious beliefs, all sexual oreintations, male or female share equally in the opportunities of life - in other words, the political and social principles written into our Constitution and Declaration of Independence - than you should vote for the Socialist party. If you believe in imperialism, private enterprise, military supremacy, and the continuation of an oppressive status quo than you should vote Republican or Democrat (it doesn't really matter which). -

The stereotypes were in refernce to Mr. Moore's article.
Socialism is the use of force. You cannot make people accept each other. It is very much "I only accpt those who accept everybody" because those who do not accept everybody are jailed. So socialism contradicts itself in that sense.
Can people handle their lives on their own? If you say yes then why does the government need to be involved in handling it? Socialism is active government involvement. If people can run their own lives then they do not need active involvement fromt he government. The only possibility then is that people cannot run their own lives. Another contradiction.
And don't ignorantly stereotype me either. You have no proof that I am some kid living off Wall Street. Not everybody who disagrees with socialism is rich. I was in a Blimpie yesterday and the man (not some kid working part time, he's full time) behind the counter disagreed with the idea of socialism. I don't think that he was actually living the high life and doing that for fun. Just a little proof that anti-socialism is not greed.
And in responce to the post on Europe, it is not free. I do not think a Minitry of Culture is freedom. -
Jellybones Offline
Also, I disagree with socialism and I'm in the lower-middle class! AHA!
Still. I believe in capitalism in that you get what you work for. It's just that CEOs fuck everyone up by not bothering to work and getting the most money of all. I don't believe in this "work for everyone not for profit!" crap because that sounds like living off welfare or some shit. -

still goin on about that BS...
LB is like that kid... who plays by himself on the basketball court... cuz he fears that if he ever let anyone else play, then the ball he would never come to him again. -
lazyboy97O Offline
And yet I'm not the one doing the mocking. Funny how think you think you really know me. -
Blitz Offline
my comment doesn't necessarily mock you as much as it uses for example, a situation that can be likened to your state of mind reguarding the prejudgements you make and how they hinder you from considering an opposing view. Which is to say, your sheer lack of understanding makes it pointless to argue with you, and is thus mocking of any argument which IS thought out, with evidence in mind (and not relying on something that is strictly ones opinion to prove a rational point).
So therefore, it's deserved.
