Oh man, Showdown Saturday lived up to its hype, with a TON of awesome games!!!

The #1 USC Trojans survived a prolific Cal offense and a great team that definitely deserves its #7 ranking, beating the Golden Bears 23-17 to "avenge" last year's loss. The USC defense came through when it counted, and this was one amazing game. Cal QB Aaron whatshisname definitely joins Purdue's Kyle Orton on my person Heisman candidate ballot.

Oklahoma didn't kill Texas this time, but they did shut them out 12-0 in an UGLY game.

Michigan was facing a huge loss (Big 10 wise) but came back at the last minute to win 27-24.

LSU likewise did the same thing, avenging their only loss of last season by beating Florida by I think the same score.

#3 Georgia lost to Tennesse, which is suddenly in the SEC East driver's seat.

With the #3, 5, and 7 teams losing, #10 Utah (out of all teams) might move up a lot just by default.

Nebraska... how the might have fallen. They suffered their worst loss in school history, falling to Texas either A&M or Tech by a score of 70-10.

Oh yeah... and ARMY ACTUALLY WON!!! That snaps their dismal 19 game losing streak spanning three seasons.

    But awesome, awesome Saturday.

The only person I believe played a decent game was Adrian Peterson. That guy is amazing.
  • Valp%s's Photo
    ^ Yeah, Adrian Peterson's a pretty decent player. ;)

The town he's from- Palestine, TX- is only about 45 minutes from where I live, and we play them every year. Last year our team held him to 88 yards- the lowest total of his high school career (and so far, his college career, too). We still lost 7-6 but holding AD to those kind of numbers is a nice memory.

:|'''' What a fuckin game, shit.. I had great seats and sold my tickets :| (Ironicly I sold them to Frank Gores brother, lol).

Last time I ever skip a Hurricanes game, tho I was at the amazing comeback vs UF last year. The one I know I will be at is the last one, vs Va Tech ;)
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
Wow. Louisville was this close to pulling off an awesome upset!!! :D Darn.

It sounds like an awesome game though, from the reports.

Yeah and go Tech since we [NC State] beat (barely) them. ehuh.

"USC is sooooo overrated. Look at their game against Cal! They were flat. They got dominated. They were lucky to win. Their defense couldn't stop much, and their offense sucked. Leinart for Heisman? Pul-eeze. That's boulderdash!"

Yeah... we sure showed them. How about 45-7 over an ASU offense that was #1 in the Pac 10 and an ASU Defense that was #21 in the nation?

No doubt about it, EVERYTHING came together tonight. Thunder and Lightning pillaged the Sun Devils defense, while Dwayne Jarret had a huge game. Mike who? It's all about the guy from New Jersey. Matt Leinart had four TD's, and even Reggie Bush got into the action with an awesome TD pass to Jarret following a reverse play.

Complete and utter domination. USC is #1 for a reason. We made a pretty good ASU team look pathetic. Remember that the offense didn't gel until around this time last year too (ironically, also against ASU). It's still too soon to say Miami, of course, but only the Trojans can beat the Trojans now. Nobody else.

In other news, Oklahoma had their own "Cal game" and avenged their season smothering loss against K-State last year.

Miami won on Thursday of course, and Auburn just killed Arkansas.

#5 Purdue, however, was upset by Wisconsin when Kyle Orton, who hadn't thrown a pick until last week, muffed a crucial one by tossing a pass straight to the defense, giving the Badgers the game winning touchdown.

Florida State also destroyed Virginia. That means #11 Utah, which won, gets to move up again. Utah. Seriously... UTAH?! How in the world are they good at football in any way????

Michigan won. Ohio State got killed. That CedarPoint freak guy with the political expert sister should be crying himself to sleep now. Wasn't he super cocky about OSU? And now they've basically died. They should fall out of the Top 25. FINALLY.

And Boston has company in futility. Can you say FORTY ONE straight losses in 41 years by Navy against Notre Dame? 5-0 record be damned, the Fighting Irish own Navy like the Globetrotters own that Washington team they always demolish by 100 pts a game.

So the unbeatens are dwindling, but there are still some threats. Miami could run the Gauntlet, as well as could Auburn, and there are definitely some great teams out there that could be disappointed, because it looks like an OU/USC Orange Bowl.

    Bring it on. :)

The first BCS Standings are out, and I'm happy, Kumba's happy, and Pyro, if he's still around, is sad.

USC is #1 by a huge margin, but MIAMI, not Oklahoma, is #2.

Watch out this week Miami. :D
  • Outlaw%s's Photo
Tennessee will be up there soon. Ole Miss was a scare this week, but I think we just overlooked them. Definitely a different team than the one that beat Georgia 2 weeks ago. Now, we just gotta hold off Bama this week, hold off a few other SEC wannabes, and make it to AND through the SEC championship game. I have tickets to the game this week too, in the student section. Woohoo!
  • chapelz%s's Photo
Kumba You got lucky had the computers not fucked it up you would and should be sitting in the #3 spot not my Sooners. :'(
  • Micool%s's Photo
The funniest part is that what was changed about the BCS is the way the polls factor in. Instead of being worth roughly 1/15, the polls are now each worth 1/3. And both polls had the Sooners 2nd. So for all we know Oklahoma might have been 4th using last year's system.

Kumba You got lucky had the computers not fucked it up you would and should be sitting in the #3 spot not my Sooners.  :'(

Your Sooners? Everyone around here knows they are mine, but I suppose I could share. Sorry I have been gone for awhile Cork, otherwise this thread would be about 7 pages longer. The rankings are early and everyone knows the computers are always wacky early and then start to correct themselves by the end, so no, I'm not sad.

If you listen to all the talk this year everyone is in full understanding that Miami is not #2, that its OU and USC's title game to drop with a loss. So lets not screw it up this year, cause I want to see that game.

That said, anyone else catch that OU- K-State game? Talk about ugly, OU came out looking completely unready to play. The defense was off, and kept giving K-State penalties on cruitial downs to keep their scoring drives alive. However, it was Ou's game in the second half, the only K-State score comming off of an interception. OU was basically beating themselves with misques and penalties, so I wouldn't read too much into the close game. The important part is they got out of it with a win, and Adrian Peterson extended his +100 yrd game streak to 6, only having started 2 of thoes games.

Speaking of Adrian Peterson, you seen the last Heisman projections on ESPN Cork? Reads something to the tune of Adrian Peterson 42, Matt Leinart 35. Gotta love him, it will be really interesting to see how the offense evolves over the course of the season, particuraly getting into post season play (Big XII Championship, National Championship (baring slip-ups).
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
Actually, I did see that, Matt. It's pretty crazy, Adrian has been amazing this year, and he's only a freshman!

Leinart hasn't really done an awful lot to merit the Heisman, IMO, save last week. He's been overshadowed by The President (Reggie Bush) this season somewhat, so there's that as well (similar to Miami two years ago). Anyway, my pick at this moment would be Aaron Rodgers. That man is unreal. It WAS Kyle Orton, but he went and lost the game to Wisconsin by throwing an INT.
  • Titan%s's Photo
^ That was a fumble... The INT was first half, and it was tipped...

That fumble cost us the perfect season... that and the botched FG...
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
Oh. I thought he tossed it at the Wisconsin guy... lemme check.

Yeah, you're right. My bad... still. Sucks for Purdue. I was kinda pulling for them. :)
  • PyroPenguin%s's Photo
I'm happy they lost, took Orton off the top and gave Peterson room for a real shot, but thats my slightly biased view.
  • Tyler%s's Photo
OSU got raped by the Aggies.
    i am sad.

    :(

so, as soon as we beat OU, we will become numbre uno again.
    yeah.
  • chapelz%s's Photo
    OSU sucks period.
