    *Raises hand to be tester*

Frankly I only have a few reasons why:
    1) For some dumb ass reason I can't view the screen in their current form (links) and I despritly want to see this.
    2) Because I've found tons of little things in RoB that I think could've been much better.
    3) I'll attach a few screens (zipped) to my e-mail with points circled in certain colors so that I may better explain what I want changed and how

Personally I think if you want to improve on RoB don't worry too much about 'brightness' worry more about color scemes. Like in Lumiera (sp?) in RoB the colors of the coaster worked perfectly with the surrounding however away from the coaster the color in the area dried up a bit too much without the teal to liven it up.

Oh and Pompeii sticks out in my mind: Half burried buildings with that red volcanic rock texture and the brown 'mud' used as ground. "Crazy stone" path used for the footpaths and a large centeral volcano with archetecture again half-burried into it. Lots of the marble texture or maybe the tan for the buildings. Something that looks right but isn't too bright. Get my dift?

    :D

    I be a young preist. ;)

I'm willing to be a tester, if you're looking for a critical and honest beta review. I already tested Jkay's, X250's and Deanosrs's parks including two pages of comments and suggestions.

I want to make it clear that I never 'bailed out' on this project.

I was building, and you were preoccupied with out of RCT matters so you said you'd talk to me when you were ready to pick it back up again. I've always been enthusiastic about this park and never ever would I want to get out of it.

Since I guess I've been thrown out of this project, now I'd like to be a beta-tester. As you know, I've always been a huge fan of yours, and I've looked at your parks (all of them) more than any other parkmaker's. I only hope the short time we worked together on RoC shows you how critical and helpful I could be.

I didn't mean to "kick you out," I was actually hoping you would post asking me to help with it. I have removed all of the buildings that we had because I just wasn't feeling it, and I was thinking about setting it in Louisiana Swampland. So if you have the time, I still need you.

So far the themes that I am liking are the Athens, Greece, the Arabian Marketplace, and ride6's pompeii idea. I'm thinking of a ride like flood, but that interacts with that sort of thing instead. Great ideas guys! Nothing is set in stone, so keep them coming if you're willing!

Drat! I've had this idea of a "community park" for a long time, but I've never gotten off my ass to publish it! Oh well, no worries. Given my schedule, I doubt I ever could have gone through with it anyway, and in any case, you're the MUCH better man to do this.

Unfortunately for me, my school schedule doesn't really permit me to be a tester in the involvement that you require, so I can't do that. I can offer a few ideas, perhaps.

WME's Norse Mythology has a lot of potential. Think of it as a sort of dark Greek myth... I tried to utilize Norse mythology in my old Hampton Park Mega Resort, but I've not seen the theme done often. You can always play around with Ragnarok, which was their version of the apocalypse, where the struggle between Loki, the trickster god who caused the downfall of the Norse gods, battled Thor, Odin, and company in an epic that destroyed the earth. You can mess around with a ride based on his children (one was a wof named Fenrir, or Fenris depending on who you ask; there was this huge serpent who's name escapes me; and the third was some hag in charge of hell I think). This can give you an opportunity to play around with something more sinister.

For a more majestic effect, you can work on a bit of minimalist RCTeering with a Native American theme. Obviously, Toon executed this relatively well in Gila, but you can draw inspiration from a variety of Native American cultures and mythologies to create your own backstory. I know you're good with research, and to be honest, I can't name any specifics, but you could create some world created by some great winged eagle-like creature. Draw inspiration from the cliff houses of the Southwest, perhaps some adobe architecture, and create this rugged, barren, desert landscape that is both harsh and beautiful at the same time.

If you're feeling mischievous, give a Mayan twist to the old Atlantis theme to create yet another mythology and theme of your own. This would probably involve glass and stone construction, as compared to glass and steel/shiny thing construction of a typical Atlantean theme.

Other good civilizations to look at may include the Minoan Civilization, the Ottoman Empire, Knossos, Crete, and the Aryan peoples of early India.

    Hope that helps.

Just for the record, I said Pompeii first. :p ;)

Pick some twisted theme, something that hasn't been done before, I had an idea and never got to it... maybe you could make it happen. Have you heard of Malice in Wunderland at Knott's Scary Farm? Make something like that, use SOME bright colors, make most colors dark and creepy.... just a thought.

    I know you did. ;)

For the record a Pompeii theme has planned for BP but I cancled it :p

Go for it SA, id love to see you do it, and maybe you could do the flood-like ride with lava :)
  • Steve%s's Photo

    I know you did. ;)

You can beat SA to it. ;)

Well, a lot of what ride6 said sounds very familiar. Turns out I had planned to employ a Pompeii-style section in an upcoming solo, featuring a lot of the same elements as what he listed. Half-buried buildings. Crazy stone paths. A large volcano. Since I'm not one of the most prominent people in the RCT community ;) , it would be unkind for me to object to such an area if SA decided to go ahead with it. So, SA you have my blessing, should you decide to do it (since multiple people are backing the Pompeii idea).

However, I'm concerned that since undoubtedly SA would finish before me, mine might look like a rip-off. Therefore, I also would like to say that I have come up with the idea in detail independently, and I will do my best to ensure that the only similarities between the two areas are inherent in their conceptual roots. Thanks.

I certainly have many ideas for an entrance theme, but the one that sticks out of my mind the most would be an Icelandic village type theme. By that, I mean you could construct buildings in the manner that they are in small Icelandic villages and landscape according to the Icelandic landscape, it would be a very unique and dramatic theme if you could capture the extremes of Iceland's very climactic landscape in that area.

I would very much like to be a tester. I consider myself somewhat of a new parkmaker, but have been around for 2 years or so. I continually over-analize my own work, so it goes without question that I can do more-so with others. I like traditional themes, and can think of twists for traditional themes, though I do have a slight preference to the far out stuff. My schedule is open enough to spend an hour or more analyzing meticulously over this park (I consider myself a perfectionist).

    Alright, as for themes...

I think an early England theme could be very interesting... have Hadrian's wall with all the broken stones and such, perhaps show how many times it went under different control. Have a mix of Celtic/Roman influenced Celtic/Viking/Anglo Saxon/Norman buildings and theming styles... perhaps have Beowulf make an apperance and have the focus of the whole section 1066.

A Russian theme would be very cool. Moscow would be very neat to portray, but if I can remember right, Kiev was a more interesting city, with it being on rivers or the sea or lake (gah, can't remember it too well)

An Istanbul theme would be pretty cool as well. You can show the contrast of Muslim and Eastern Orthodox architecture, have all the picture-esque bazzars and the harbor and such. Maybe make it at the time of the fall of the Roman Empire, when it keeps on prospering and turns into the Byzantine Empire.

And perhaps Cambodia would be cool to make... dunno much about it, just saw some qftb entry themed to it, it was pretty neat, but you could take it so much further. Maybe even one of those African tribes that started to flourish back when. Think it's Zaire, or maybe Ghanda, or something like that. Just keep one theme a little known culture, to give the park a sort of mysterious side to it.

    penguinbob,

find me pictures and examples of the istanbul architecture that you are speaking of and i'll do it.

Map for refference of the Byzantine Empire

    Istanbul, present day:

    Posted Image

Some really goofy pic that really shows the architecture well.

Artwork of the Crusaders entering Constantinople in 1204

More artwork, with a better view of the harbor, albiet from 1871.

Mid-Evil like drawing of the city:

Hmm... guess I was wrong about the harbor though, I forgot it was a walled city in ancient times (wich could be pulled off pretty well)... The city went through many hands though, resulting in the 3 names it has had over the centuries: Byzantium, Constantinople, and Istanbul. This could be a very interesting theme, have fun with it.
  • Critic%s's Photo
To add onto the last statement, penguinBOB, it was Constantinople under St. Constantine's rule and was the capital of the Roman empire under his rule. Later, the Byzantine empire took place of the Eastern Roman empire and the city's name changed to Byzantium and lastly the city's name was changed to Istanbul when the Islamics invaded Asia Minor, if I remember correctly.

What do you think about using an old rundown city/town theme. It wouldn't neccesarily have to be themed to an urban style, but mabey to a midevil style. Building could be partially crumbling, archways could be missing, walls could be partially destroyed, pieces of path missing from the ground and mabey even a thin layer of foliage scattered all along the variouse buildings.

Actually, this could just be an add on to what penguin_bob mentioned earlier. You could build somthing similar to the Byzantine Empire, then(mabey on the outer edge of the section) add on the rundown theme. Its worth a try, in my opinion.

    Oh well.
  • penguinBOB%s's Photo

... and lastly the city's name was changed to Istanbul when the Islamics invaded Asia Minor, if I remember correctly.

    Ottomon Empire.

I learned all this stuff why? Cause I know my cymbals... lol.. One time in history class, my teacher was talking about the dardenelles, and it was really irritating me, so I told her it was the Marmara Strait. She looked at the map, gave this funny look, and I got a few "oh snaps" from my peirs. fun times.

Anyways, Perhaps you could do Timbuktu (that's what I meant when saying African theme). Then, if you did do stuff like that, you could tie the whole park around ancient/lost cities (Pompeii fitting in there, maybe Cairo, London's pretty old, etc.).

Ever heard that song about istanbul and constantinople?

"it's istanbul, not constantinople, istanbul, not constantinople..."

    its they might be giants..
