Greetings.
I have been working on a park recently, that I began with slob, and he dropped out. The park is RCT 2, based upon the Pro Tour template. I have some excellent rides in place, but I cannot decide upon themes. I have been looking at RoB lately, and I have become inspired to do something better than that, and get it out before RCT 3. That's a big promise, but I think I can do it.
Now, this is where you come in:
A. You all know me, if you have seen all of my parks. I want some intelligent and plausible suggestions for the four themes in the park. Specify which one would be the entrance area. (The entrance area features a massive woody, that blows the one in RoB away.) I want answers from those of you who are willing to back them up with good reasons. Mostly I am looking for random historic themes, for instance, should I do another Ancient Greek theme like in CWD? You know my style, so I am asking you guys to suggest 4 themes for my park, and I will chose from among them and post my choices in this thread as soon as i figure them out.
B. I need an old priest , and a young priest. I would like some park-maker beta testers. If you are a park-maker, I am going to need 6 beta testers, and I will e-mail you the park once a week, hopefully on a set schedule, for your review. This will help me to keep focused and keep fresh, good ideas coming in. What I mean by an old priest and a young priest, I'd like to mix up the beta testers with some older members and some newer ones. Don't just reply saying "I want to be a beta tester," think about it like "applying" to be a beta tester. Tell me what you could do for me if I show you my park every week. Are you going to tell me it's good? I don't want to hear that. If this is going to top RoB , I need some steady help keeping focused.
Also, I will be building this park in front of the entire forums, week by week, with in-depth user interaction. Any comments or suggestions in this thread will be taken into strong consideration. I'm going to post more screens than anyone could ever imagine, yet I will still keep secrets, and there will be surprises.
The best thing for all of you parkmakers, I will not be submitting this to spotlight. If everyone is going to help me make it, I will not take credit for it. It will be the "community RCT 2 park, as interpreted by SACoasterFreak."
The park will actually reflect the overall theme of it's creation. It will be called "The Roots of Creation," to continue in my trend of making parks named after songs by sublime.
Lets do this.
(I will post screens in a reply to get the ball rolling as soon as I find a free image host....) -

This sounds pretty cool SA. I'd very much like to become one of the six, as I'm a very oppinonated guy, as I'm sure some of the people I've tested for may tell you.
As for themes, ancient Greece definately sounds like one to go with. Athens is an amazing place, and I think you could translate that well into RCT2. So that would be my first choice. Second would be Ancient Egypt. I think someone with your skill level could easily pull off the best Egyptian theme in history, as Egypt is also an amazing place in real life. Third would be Mexican. Some colorful architecture can really do a park wonders, and this theme could probrably have more of a jungle flare, to add to the experiance. I'm unsure about a possible 4th area.
Another idea might be to go with more of a city approach, and build possibly these 4 themes. Ancient Greece, I think you could pull it off very well, and it would still look good with these themes. Europe, sort of with a tudor feel. Russia, with towering spires and snow, which I think could give variation to the park. And maybe France, with a Paris influence. I think these 4 themes could work well together.
Just my thoughts. -

I would love to see a good snow theme executed, and Russia does seem to be a good choice to me. Maybe with the entrance with the woodie, a frontier theme with lots of pine trees, creeks, and hills with not as many buildings as the other sections would be good, even though maybe not for an entrance area. I'm imagining the theme to be something like log cabins and westward expansion, maybe a little mining but for the most part wilderness with a gaint woodie, or maybe even you can change up the elevation of the land and make it more of a terrain woodie like Boulder Dash. Maybe you can even split that section into two parts, a frontier town part and wilderness area.
Relatively, I guess I can be your young priest if you want, I have a pretty good understanding of the real theme park industry especially coasters. I've also been asked by Kumba for hacking tips/advice in the past if that means anything.

that's my first intamin, and it's big. you guys will like it.
I know those screens are unfinished, but the driving force, is that you help me finish them. That's what's going to be so much fun for everyone involved with this.
I have already decided that Athens will be involved. 3 more left to decide. Thanks, Titan! -

first of all, thank you for bringing some rct business back to ne, sa. it's great that you're trying to address everyone on this site. if more people did that the community would grow stronger. unfortunately, you are the only one to do this in ages. there are rather a lot of people here who want to weaken the community.
what you're planning on doing there sounds very tough and i don't think parkmakers that aren't on your level could do it. you can be sure i wish you the best of luck.
a.
i must say i'm a little irritated that the entrance area is going to feature one of the main rides in the park. but then again, i could imagine it to work well. i just think that entrance areas usually don't have a theme at all. they are small and different from the other areas of the park. they have the entrance gates, the shops and stalls people need when they've just entered a park, possibly a transportation system and then the gates to the different themed areas. a themed entrance only works when it fits with the story of the park, i believe. like in rob, the entrance area was the babylon theme and a river set the maplayout.
since i know you are very knowledged in history, historic parks are in a way what sa must do and what he has always done. they are made for you and they define the sa style. so upon which historical event the park will be set up is very hard for me to decide, seeing as i was never good at history and never showed much interest in it.
i think the park will definitely need a ruins theme. no matter where the theme comes from, it will have to be the "ruins of ...idon'tknowwhat". maybe in combination with a jungle theme. i'm sure you've seen disney's jungle book. there's the one castle with all the apes. i've always wanted to do a theme like that and combine the items from the medieval with the jungle theme. this area would allow a water ride very well in my opinion. maybe an arrow coaster too.
for some contrast, and out of personal preference too, i'd love to see a bare theme from you with almost no foliage. you could use a theme like that to show of your skills in creating beautiful rock shapes. a cave dweller theme, so to speak, with a bm invert interacting. i think it wouldn't be easy to still give this theme a park-ish look. i'm afraid it could too easily turn out to be too mountaineous, especially as it will most likely need quite a few height differences for the paths.
as for the third theme, i thought you might want to do another "lut gholein" from lw. you've rarely done arabian themes like that. this time i'd give it a coaster, a woodie. maybe an indoor dark-ride would fit too. i'm generally missing in-door rides in your parks.
finally, the fourth theme could be athens with all it's myths and beautiful pillars in the architecture. beware though not to make it too bright. as for rides, i think a flyer would be good in combination with another indoor ride. a ghost train even.
there should also be at least one dueller in the park. almost no one does them anymore because the skilled coaster makers are dying out.
what themes i wouldn't want you to do are aztec and asian (you kinda never got the groove for asian themes).
a general note; i think rob was overall a bit too bright. for your new park, i think a more serious and less bright look would be better. maybe this is just my schuessler-fascination speaking, but anyway, you may consider it.
come to think of the entrance theme again, i must honestly say i'd want it to be cliche medieval. there will have to be a few variations though, but generally, medieval, or castle-ish themes are very attractive for entrances.
b.
wether you call me an old or young priest i really can't say. i joined ne in autumn 2001. what maybe makes me an old priest is that i'm so fascinated by the old parkmaking style, like you, schuessler and segaman have done it.
i want to be a beta-tester because i'm one of your inmost admirers and it would be an honour for me to become a tester. i believe i know your style very well. i've probably looked at your parks longer than you and i guess you know what to expect from me from the time when you were making rob. -

Kumba, is that the best you can do? Is that how bad you want it? You know something about history? Offer a suggestion. There's no behind the scenes. There's no "Ill talk to you on AIM," with this park. Everything is out in the open. I'm going to post my emails to/from the beta testers, everything is going to be available. If you have something to say, say it. -

Ok I got an idea, I tryed it in Tiumba, but it sucked. Do an Aztec theme with the tall walls, planks, and canals. fires and scrafices can up the themeing alot too.
Another good one would be a US war, in your case I can see you doing the battle of the alimo, that whould be awsome. Or maybe an oragon theme with an outpost or a large fort.
What I could do for it as a tester is look over the whole thing. If you got an error odds are I have seen it and can take care of it for you, also im very honest and will tell you exactly what I think. -

I would love to see the entrance theme like your (is It?) Mexican themed entrance in Legends west. To me that was and probably is the best entrance I seen. The layout was great the textures and colours all worked so well. I also think this would work great with a wooden coaster.
The colours and the atmosphere of the entrance in legends west would be great to have in your new park. I agree with posix an athens theme would be cool and yes don't make it so bright. -
Steve Offline
Yeah, I just wanted to jump in here and say that those giga colors are fucking incredible. Only you, SA, could make those colors look good (I tried a similar scheme and it looked like shit). The rest looks great as well.
As far as themes go, I think Titan pretty much hit all the bases with themes. So, for the entrance, you got a nice, big wooden coaster. With very fitting colors that could go with a wide variety of themes. My suggestion: I don't know if this would fit really (but knowing you, this thing could be turned into a masterpiece), but maybe like Colonial America? I know its not "ancient", but it could fit, or something.
Other areas to consider would be Incan theme, maybe something Machu Picchu inspired, and Mount Vesuvius/Pompeii theme. Thats all I could really think of off the top of my head, because most of the themes I also thought of were already said.
But anyway, best of luck on this project SA.
Too bad slob dropped out, this park would have kicked even more ass with him in this thing with you. -

Anyway, real themes. How about, like, Mesopotamia. Where they had those little villages, and shit. I forget, I haven't had ancient history since 6th grade. But you get the idea. -

I agree with X, It would be awesome to have a mexican entrance like the one from Legends West, updated in RCT2. Also I'd like to see one of your camelot themes, with the Pendragons coasters, in the park, I think that would be pretty cool. Another idea for a theme could be a Maya section, If pulled off well, could turn out awesome. And as steve said, Pompeii might be a good idea too. -

mmm..
agreeing with posix here, this should be tough. If someone thinks up a theme, they usually have their own ideas behind them as to how and what and it's definitely hard to explain those sort of things. A legends west sort of Mexican entrance sounds nice, but at the same time, it's copying your own park which definitely isn't that nice now is it. I'd much rather you try something lovely and new.
I once started a rct2 park, which was going well, yet was scrapped due to WW incompatibility reasons. The thing is, i think the theme could fit you perfectly (the theming was "SA inspired" when i interpreted it) And it's mythological, and i don't believe anyone else has done anything like this. I'm no mythological expert or anything, but hey, i found some stuff on the internet here and there. I think it would be tremendous if you'd interpret Asgard into RCT2. Norse mythology would give it all a new twist, you could even put some snow in for phatage (or not, it doesn't really have to have snow imo) It would just be really cool to have sort of a fort kind of idea, walls around an entire area, and not only a city like experience, but a bit of a mythical one (that addition might come easy with a nice coaster named to a Norse god) Really, fact is, this might be immensely hard and stuff. Me talking about it again makes me want to give it a shot once again too, but i'd rather you take the trial, since you're undoubtably more skillful.
I'm not a totally agreeing person with the brightness factor in RoB (i didn't mind?) nor with the fact that oriental themes don't suit you well. They're generally just harder to make, then other areas, but when they work in the end you tend to like them a lot as well. I for one really like RoB's oriental sort of area, and another area in that general direction could suit me quite well..
And i'd of course like to be a beta tester... I've been around for ages, have been a fan of your work for a hella long time too, and heck, i think i'm as opinionated about rct as anyone. -
thorpedo Offline
Greek theme would be good, maybe you could even pull off a Troy type area, complete with Trojan horse or something like that. I'd like to see you try some very towering architecture, great in size but still simply beautiful..like a Roma type thing, tall architecture...you know what I mean.
Also, an Egyptian area of somekind would be good, as would a Moroccan type one..something with sand and very complex connecting architecture. I think that you'll have to have something very big to compensate that giga..so that would be the perfect spot for that Roma type area...
And I'd love to be a tester, dude. Get back to me.
