Well shit, the Iranians and the Israelis are liable to engage in a shootout for all we know. -

I really enjoyed watching the opening ceremony, the trance that was playing whilst the countries walked through sounded superb, kudos to the DJ they had.
It made me laugh when a huge country was followed by a country with about 4 people in it. They got dwarfed! -

I heard it was DJ Tiesto. What the hell is that about? What happened to national songs, and shit like that? Hell, while we're at it, let's give the athletes glowsticks to wave around when they walk in! -

I loved the opening ceremony. I've usually found them dull, but Athens did an amazing job. I feel sorry for all the future host cities who have to try to top that. And having DJ Tiesto spinning made it that much more enjoyable. I just wished they had turned that up and the announcers down. -

I can't believe the Olympics actually got off wiht out a hitch. when I was over in Athens two months ago, they were nowhere close to be ready. Looks like they got their asses in gear. -

I watched about ten minutes of table tennis and the person from the US was getting her ass kicked. I turned it off and it was 7-2. -

I swam against some guy at a meet I went to 2 weeks ago... He had a T16 time of like :56 in his 100 fly... Phelps went a :58 in the first 100 of the 400 IM... Crazy.
Can't wait to see Phelps swim the 200 fly... -

I can't believe ping pong--rather, table tennis--is an Olympic sport. Though I've seen the pro matches on ESPN2 occasionally and it's insane. They wear very short shorts. And the serves are completely ridiculous. In fact, professional table tennis is among the silliest things you will ever see. -

I was thinking the same. He was being drowned out by the announcers and the crowds. Bastards!I loved the opening ceremony. I've usually found them dull, but Athens did an amazing job. They were all good songs, but the only one i actually recognised was William Orbit's version of Barber's Adagio for Strings.
Still, it was thoroughly enjoyable and the fireworks were very cool too. -

Why isn't poker an olympic sport, it's better than sailing or something like that. -

oh HELL YEAH! And don't forget the divers, either! Did you see those synchro ones last night?! Wow.since this morning i'm a fan of kosuke kitajima.
Haha um yeah I love the sport aspect of it too
No seriously I do - i'm the guy that gets up at 7 even in the holidays to watch the cycling road races just cos they're the OLYMPICS. They kick ass.
As for the opening ceremony - wow! My favourite parts were the model head splitting apart and forming the mountain, and the parade showing the eras in Greek art. So awesome. And Bjork was great, too (MoonSpoon - have you heard Alarm Call/Bachelorette/Joga? Or the whole of Homogenic, for that matter?). Also, Tiesto was good, but to be honest I missed most of the country-parade because I was watching Queer Eye For The Straight Guy and Borat for the first time (hilarious, both of them).
Anyway, back to the TV - swimming!! Part of me hopes Phelps makes it to 8, but on the other hand part of me just won't believe that he will - there are too many other good swimmers, especially in the 100 fly, and his relay place depends on him winning that race (pretty much, anyway). Ah well, we'll see.
But I love the Olympics so much. -

Because poker doesn't take any amount of athletic skill whatsoever.Nope. You're missing out on pool.

Yeah, I doubt he can pull off the 100 fly. He's just not explosive enough. His technique (with breathing every stroke, god I wish I was good enough to do that) is more for the 200, which he'll own.Anyway, back to the TV - swimming!! In Basketball, Team USA just lost by 19 points to Puerto Rico, a team that wasn't even expected to contend for a metal. It's the first loss for Team USA in Olympic play since NBA players were allowed to play. It's an embarassing loss to say the least.
They played horribly overall too. They shot something like 30% from the field, and I think 3/22 or something from 3-point land. And the Olympic 3-point arc is considerably closer than that of the NBA. BAH, frustrating. -
VC15SA Offline
Yeah they completely fucked up. It will now be very difficult to get gold. They seriously need a shooter. -

Shit, I totally forgot these were on, and I missed it.
oh, well if USA lost to Puerto Rico as slobbers pointed out then I guess I don't really care if I missed out. Did the swimming finish up yet? -

Actually competitive sailing takes a lot more strength than you realize. It's still better than yachting. That's just driving around in a boat.
