The Bible isn't always as clear-cut as it may seem. ;)

    You read it lately?

    This topic is SOOOOOOOOOOOO boring.
Glory...glad your saved and that you go to church....now...go AWAY.
Doc...yes thanks, read the bible a LOT. Studied through the views of several religions, from Jehova's Witnesses to Methodists, to Southern Baptists. That whole hate the sin love the sinner thing is condescention at best, which if you look at it, is really just the "deadly sin" of pride, veiled as being righteous and "caring" for we poor lost sinners.

Anyway, you all know my views so I shan't bore you again.
    Organized religion is stupid.

Why was this topic revived again?

^ I agree with all of that. Pretty much.
  • Meretrix%s's Photo
^ Because Glory wanted to start some sh*t.
  • Blitz%s's Photo
yeah, that "love the sinner, hate the sin" bullshit is just like "yeah, god loves me more, but I won't hold it against you".

fuck that. It is perhaps the most condescending thing i have EVER heard. Despite even the most pious or most religiously mediocre of people who say those words, not a single one of them DOESN'T treat and judge someone differently in such a context. It's there as a safety blanket "look at me! I'm an accepting and loving person! Now clean my shoes nigga!"

    It just doesn't work.
  • Glory%s's Photo

    Now clean my shoes nigga!"

I hope you are black or atleast near it..

yeah, that "love the sinner, hate the sin" bullshit is just like "yeah, god loves me more, but I won't hold it against you".

Rubbish. Christians sin just as much as non-Christians. I believe that God doesn't love anybody any more than anybody else.
  • Meretrix%s's Photo
And what would your point be with that statement Doc?
You are the one who brought up the "Hate the sin, love the sinner".

Here is the flaw in your argument. You believe I am a sinner. I do not. NEITHER of us has SOLID proof that either of us is right. So it's all just one big pissing contest until we die. In the interim, the Christian WRONG is doing everything in its' power to treat me as an unequal human being with regard to civil rights.

    Hmm.....what would Jesus do?

Oh yeah...I know...the carpenter would probably build a table.
  • Doc%s's Photo
Blitz was suggesting that Christians view themselves as 'more loved' by God. I was referring to that part of his comment as rubbish, hence my previous post. I agree that there is no way of prooving who is right - at least not in this life. My faith is based on... faith.

I really disagree that a Christian would view a non-Christian as someone who is not equal though. One difference between us is that I believe certain things are wrong; I see them in my life and feel guilty. You don't necessarily view them as wrong so you don't feel guilty. The bottom line is that we've both some the same wrong stuff - we just feel different about it. We're as bad (or as good) as each other.

What would Jesus do...? Ask Him for yourself :p
  • Blitz%s's Photo
sorry, he doesn't return my phone calls.

my point was that, despite your best effort, there will be some people in this world that you look down on. And bam, your little phrase goes out the proverbial window. How bout them apples? I dunno, maybe your the best christian who ever lived, and have never thought badly of anyone who didn't affect you directly... just maybe right?

Ha! Thanks - I needed a chuckle

Yes but Doc...the Christian WRONG ....DOES see itself as "Superior" otherwise the whole FMA would be a "non-issue"...right now...it's not.

My view on this....I don't spend my life trying to tell or convince people that they should "live a certain way or face eternal damnation". I live my life as a decent upstanding citizen, who happens to be in love with another man, who also goes to work everyday, pays his taxes, and generally tries to live in peace and harmony with those around me.

The Christian WRONG (and I use them as an example solely because of the barbaric "Taliban" style tactics that they have use throughout history to "subjugate" those who do not agree with them....we can start another thread about this in a minute) spends MILLIONS of dollars and manpower hours trying to convince an unsuspecting world, that I, and those like me, eat and kill children (If you don't believe me, I'll happily supply you with proof), degrade America, and are the basic reason for absolutley EVERY single evil that has befallen this country, and in fact mankind....please refer to Jerry Falwell's comments, a "devout Christian", immediately following the 9/11 attacks for yet more eveidence of this...or Pat Robertson, Pat Buchanan, Ralh Reed, Fred Phelps, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Baker.....pick one of your "Chosen Leaders" (and by that I mean "self appointed") for further evidence of the current injustice going on in the "theocracy" known as America.

And then...after you've sifted through ALL of that shit......come to me and tell me that the Christian way...is the right way....I DEFY you to do so.

I've studied the "Christian" way....and truth be told...if Jesus Christ were alive today....."Christians" would be the very people nailing the poor SOB to the cross....actual or metaphorical.

This is the platform of politics I despise.

When you all die (from Kool Aid or whatever), please enjoy your afterlife, however delusional.
Just don't impede MY freedoms as an individual while in this earthly plane.

I have my own beliefs about the creator. I'm just not as arrogant as Christians, to assume that my place is at the head of the food chain table.

K....done for tonight. More talky talky in the A.M.

I think the same thing. It was the Jews that had him killed the first time - and he was Jewish. This time it would be the Fundamentalist Christians. He was there for the outcasts and the poor. He was against the Jewish religious leaders who were more interested in their rules than their people. I'll never understand why most Christians are the strongest supporters of a conervative political ideology which is the opposite of what Jesus would be teaching were he here today. I think it has something to do with focusing on the words and not the message (for which you also have to account for the context). Or maybe it's 1000 years of politics mixing with religion. It's one of the supreme ironies how Christianity has taken Jesus' message and totally underminned it. Or maybe when you get down to it, we just care more about our cars and our houses and our bank accounts than our religion.

Thank you for wording this so eloquently. Just one question... how did the gay/straight issue return to the religion debate?

Glory just started being all rightious and well homo-phobic... thats how it started.

Weather your Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Mormon etc. etc. I dont care, as long as your tolerante of the beleifs of others, ive got no beef with you. People like Glory, in my opinion, are ignorent, sometimes arrogent assholes. Doc said Christians dont think God loves them more but from the behaviour of some of the "die-hard" beleivers I dissagree.

I'm glad im saved and go to church.

Care to explain? Sounds a little "he loves me more coz I do what he says!"

And by the way Glory, babe, im 100% man ;)

I won't tell you that the Christian way is the right way for a fact, but I'll tell you that I believe it to be the right way. As it happens Chrisitians believe that we were responsible for Jesus' death - He wouldn't have died at all had it not been for our sins. If Jesus were alive today, I'm certain that we'd be metaphorically nailing Him to the cross, so I completely agree with you there.

That's not how I interpretted the comment you quoted. As a Christian, I also am glad to be saved and to be in church because it fills me with joy. I don't think Glory was saying that he is loved any more than anybody else at all, merely expressing how happy he is to be a Christian.
