spot on, ed.The way we think is the way we were raised to think and a lot of that comes from Christianity. Like polygamy and homosexuality. A lot of people have something like a gag reflex to them. They know they're bad, they just don't know why.
I actually think that moral implications are all situational. Take guardians post about the wives thing. It worked, but perhaps it didn't work for someone else. The same goes for any sort of consentual relationship. But as you said, people have a gag reflex because of their culture and upbringing. But I personally think it's simply part of a process. The human race simply isn't mature enough to deal with certain things yet, but it is steadily becoming more mature as time passes. So when certain things get abolished or allowed for the sake of understanding, it means the world is actually progressing. Yeah, sometimes polygamy and such won't work, but the success rate isn't so far off from regular couples. It's a mind block that you just have to get around. We all have certain prejudices that we just can't let go of, but atleast we should strive to understand that it's a prejudice that we harbor and not the "truth." -

um....yeah....I voted "gay". Was that the right answer?
And as far as the marriage thing goes...even if it were legal, I doubt that me and my boyfriend would ever get "married". For one, we are both Atheists and have no desire to take part in a religious ceremony, and secondly, we both think marriage is retarded. I have no problem with other gay couples wanting to marry, it's just not for us. However, we probably would like to have a civil union at some point (no matching tuxedos or anything, maybe just a good party afterwards)..just for legal reasons. We are in the process of buying a house, and having a legal binding contract regarding our relationship might make things run a bit more smoothly.
I think the guy next door to me is married to a chicken...they love each other very much. I don't necessarily approve of their relationship, but it doesn't affect me, so I don't really care. Ther relationship doesn't destroy the "sanctity of marriage"...because the "sanctity of marriage" doesn't exist. Couples get married and then divorced in a matter of hours (i.e., Britney Spears), and the overall divorce rate is more than 50%. Wow! What a meaningful, sacred tradition.

What people think of Christians and their viewpoints on homosexuality has been severly changed by hypocritical believers who justify what they think as sins of the wrongdoers as an excuse to hate the people who perform the actions. Because they are merely being hypocritical by saying they hate homosexuals while saying they follow the beliefs of Christianity. Because as a Chrisitan you are told to love someone more than you love yourself and hating a homosexual is veering from that principle. There is no double standard. -

i can attest to that...
and guardian, maybe you are right, but I wouldn't put money on them being more mature as far as the "whole picture" is concerned.
All of humanity is on equal ground. Most generous acts come from sympathy that is developed by having knowledge and experience that you can reflect on, and not natural empathy which is the actual measure of someones willingness to understand. So the only true way to test someone of their tolerance level is to introduce them to a situation which they do not already have a pre-fabricated response. Sometimes, people can appear more mature than they really are, and simply inherit traits through modeling after others.
This is why your logic is flawed; A nation having such laws does not neccessarily prove the integrity of it's masses
I'm not saying this to down you or anything, since you were joking, but I couldn't resist -

Born again Christian = therefore extremely straight.
By the way, Christians don't hate "gays", at least most don't. The vast majority of Bible-believing Christians view homosexuality as a sin, but that doesn't mean that we hate the sinner so to speak. A highly controversial view though, I'll give you that much.
