Straight or gay has nothing to do with HOW many people you "fall in love with", or lust with (which is probably why so many married couples are unfaithful....or maybe I'm just talking out of my ass).
Was that suppsed to be a pun? -

From my point of view, since we are already in the mode of changing the legal definition of marriage for good reasons, it seems kinda silly to say that polygamy should be illegal because that's the definition?
I'm sure there are also issues with abuse there, and I've heard stories of people being forced to be a 3rd wife or something. But, barring that, and barring any "because thats not the definition" arguments, it seems to make sense to me? Care to elaborate? -

Again GKD, I am not trying to change the NUMBER, here.
I still hold the very conservative view that a marriage is when two people decide that they want to spend, share and build their lives together, foresaking ALL others (monogamy is a HUGE thing for me, because of how I was raised). So to say, hey let's open it up to three's and fours, I'm gonna have to say no.
On a side note...Chris and I know a "Couple" that is actually a "Triple", and seeing them interact firsthand, there is definitely a "tense dynamic", between them. They started as a couple, then introduced a third, and ever since they did that, the "couple" relationship has, in my opinion suffered.
But then again, that's merely MY opinion. -

No I agree with you, I don't think polygamy should be legal, I just wish I could explain it a little better. -

polygamy is only allowed if you can treat the wives fairly, take example a man is going on a trip to Japan with his 1st wife, he HAS to consent with the 2nd or others to go along, if one disagree's then you can't do it. you must also have the money, if you like the 2nd wife for her "hots" and the 1st is well.. you know "worn out" if you buy your 2nd wife a Ferrari, you have to buy you 1st wife something of that status of a car. you can't treat them un-fairly. as far as i consider its fine by me, I'll never do it (if i go back to the Arabian or African countries) because i'll never have the funds, time, or patience for multiple wives, but those who will undergo it is fine.
my family has a family friends his name was Mu Barik, he married a far off cousin (BOTH CONSENTED!), he had six childern with her, all healthy. at one time he went to study in England, he met a British woman, whom he fell in love, he later married her in England, he made the mistake of telling his family and letting his 1st wife let him (who also consented). the British woman did not know about the first woman, when she moved to Saudi Arabia with Mu Barik and found out about the 1st wife, Mu Barik explained as i quoted from him "I am so sorry Sandra(2nd) i should of told you about Mary (1st), if you wish for a divorce i'll grant it with you, and give you your share of the property, but in this land and in this culture this is what we do" Sandra went back to England, 6 months later she came back to him, and accepted that she indeed loved him. He has a total of 12 children, and what is most remarkable about him, was he joined the Royal Saudi Army to get Iraq out of Kuwait City (Saudi Arabia helped kicked out the Iraqi's from the cities) he had 7 children at the time, 7! yet her joined for his nation. and as far as i remember they are all three still married and just fine, just three years ago Mary (1st) had three of her kids come up here to visit the USA.
That is an example of polygamy and inner-family marriage, nothing was wrong with it. maybe your the people you know (knew) simply dont' have sums, time, or patience to deal with have three people.

I don't mean to bunch GLB with bestiality, inner breeding, or polygamy, but it IS not as far as the U.S. is concerned not a marriage in Christian thinking, which is what America is dictated by.
oh and Meretrix, when Kind Saud finally united Saudi Arabia, he fullfilled Prophet Mohammed's want to end slavery, each friday prayer he freed a slave, when Saudi Arabia has proper security and in his late age, he orderd slavery to banished claiming it haram (forbidden in Quronic text). it is in the Hadith where Mohammed tried to veer away from slavery. oh and Christian Bible are nothing like the Muslim Quron, i follow the Quron not the Bible. we share the same stories some of them names are switched some are a little different, but their is nothing in it that promotes slavery.
plus you gotta think, not ALL slaves were treated harshly, probably in the most sense those who were treated badly were rare occurances. try to see the world in shades of gray in ALL subjects rather then just in one. gays want to see themselves in shades of gray for only themselves and their quest for right and equality in the eye's of the State, it can be also fought just those of cousin marrying, polygamy or bestiality, EVEN if it is the 21st century is to so hard to imagine that in the near or far future, polygamy, inner marrying be seen by the court, and bestiality (not in marriage) but allowed? i can see it.
I don't expect America to allow polygamy, but i would'nt be surprised that if in 20 or 50 years people will start fighting for it. -

Hell in 20 - 50 years the planet is going to be over populated. 40 million people are going to live in new york city alone. Look at the population growth rate. We are also using our resources faster than we can reproduce them so basically we are screw the planet to hell. We are growing exponentionaly and its not gonna fly for long. So hopefully the people of the world save us or god does or else in 50 year sex is gonna be a activity at school for 8th graders.

that would'nt be surprising, since it happens TODAY.
he does have some truth about the kids that wouldn't surprise me. but the whole resources i think that is thought to happen, isn't all that realistic. think of it, today many parents don't want to deal with kids, and we are being approximentaly going to have population decrease in the U.S. within 30yrs, because of this. that is the what i have gotten from reports of "the dying cradle"* book at Barnes and Noble. -

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. Today's Tokyo metropolitan area population is hovering around 28 million. Following current growth rates (68,000 from 2000-2001), in a span of 50 years there would only be an increase of 3.4 million people. That outlook is incredibly generous at that. It would be a miracle, as New York's population growth is estimated to be less than that of Tokyo.
Overexaggerations can only go SO far. -
TheGuardian Offline
i don't know, i'm bad at predicting future populations, and i'm not quoting from the book either, but that's not really the point of the discussion anyways. -

Can we get this topic remotely back on track now?...
Wait...what was the topic?........Oh yeah,........do you like to eat waffles or French toast for breakfast? -

That is so true. I didn't use to think so. I grew up going to Sunday school and church like a lot of people and there was always this perception that the US is so secular. Because there was no organized prayer in school and they teach evolution and not creation, the perception is that you have to hide your Christianity. Well I'm old enough now to start figuring things out for myself and I can see that it is far far more difficult for somebody to 'fit in' in the US if they aren't Christian because it's so ingrained within the culture. The way we think is the way we were raised to think and a lot of that comes from Christianity. Like polygamy and homosexuality. A lot of people have something like a gag reflex to them. They know they're bad, they just don't know why. It's their concience speaking I guess which is really just the collective voice of culture (parents, teachers, pastors, etc.). Remember Pinnochio's "Always let your concience be your guide"? I see now what that really means. And no wonder it's so tough for people who are gay here. Their concience at one point or another might be telling them that they're evil. That's really horrible. I think TheGuardian makes a good point about polygamy. Like gymkid I guess I have a vague notion that polygamy is wrong but I'm not sure why. Actually I do know why, because my concience tells me so. Here's a new nursery rhyme: "Let your brain do the thinking, and your concience will just have to deal with it." -

Meretrix, I'm sure I missed something. I didn't mean to insult you but obviously I have. Could you drop me a PM and tell me why? I'm really sorry man for whatever I said. You've always been someone I respect and I would hate to think I've said something that upset you. We can talk it over and come to some kind of understanding. My opinions are always mutable. -

I know...maybe if gay people didn't have to enter into straight relationships, the population would go down...and they would have families for all of those kids...That's straight people for you!
Good point, XXCPfrkXX, you ARE good for something.
And 'Trix...did you read the same Ed post I read??? -

Oh Yeah, you can definetly tell someone's sexuality by their photo - for gods sake, who cares about people's sexuality? It's not like it's gonna affect the way people post here, not unless it keeps gettin' thrown in our faces. MY sexuality, if that's what you're asking, is none of your business - this is an RCT site, and although I may have brought up relationship issues in the past, I only did so because I had questions that I thought I could put towards other people to get their points of view.
New Element is about Rollercoaster Tycoon, and that's why I predominantly visit here. If sexuality is such a big issue to some of you, maybe you're at the wrong website.
