General Chat / Halflife 2 or Doom3

I'd say Half Life 2. I think it has a better gameplay than Doom 3. Graphics and atmosphere are good in both game, but I've the slight feeling the gameplay of Halflife 2 is more interesting. If your looking for the best graphics to this date then just check out the Unreal3 engine trailer. I like good graphics (I'm able to play both games on max detail ) but I'm more interested in the gameplay.

If I have to chose between the older Doom and Halflife 1 it definatly is Halflife for me. However I think I'll enjoy Doom3 and Halflife2 both when they get released.

That's just comparing the old games and the styles of the creators. You can have some expectation from them.

I find it funny how the Doom3 fans are getting mad because people are voting for HL2 because it has the better aspects that we are talking about... HL2 will have a better story, Eviornment, and gameplay. Thats all people really care about... No on wants to play a deathmatch with the same monsters over and over again... im sorry but for now HL2 is just gonna be voted better than Doom3 in the pregames because all the Doom has going for it is its visuals and overall fear factor... and once again HL2 has everything else that a game needs. BTW I dont want to argue with you guys because this is never going to be settled EXPECIALLY before the games come out so dont say someone else is moronic for there vote because they know as much about there game as you to yours.

hl2 will not have a better atmoshere. ill take mars,small blood filled coridors and hell over a city anyday. how can you jusge gameplay yet?people do want to play deathmatch with the same things. thats why people play unreal tournanent.

Sorry Unreal tournament is actually a game that has great missions and game play modes like CPF, Team DM, and like 5 more different modes other than just a constant spawn, kill someone, die... spawn, kill someone, die. I will not say Doom 3 will be like that but I can garuntee Doom 3 will not have Capture the flag or any other creative multiplayer modes.

Who gives a shit? Multiplayer modes don't make a game better, it just makes it have more replay value. And if a game is good to begin with, there's no need for multiplayer IMO.

Who in there right mind wants to spend $60+ on a game they will play once... no one thats why HL2 will be on the shelves for years... as HL is still on the shelves. Some reason I couldnt find doom though... thats weird? Heh.

Doom 3 is not intended for a multiplayer game anyway. It's mostly dealing with single player. The reason is because of the scare factor. I honestly would rather play by myself then with others because it will be more scary, and fun.

If Doom 3 is anything as scary as the infamous "Shalebridge Cradle" mission in Thief: Deadly Shadows, it will be fucking terrifying, as that is by far the scariest level I have ever played in my life. Even more so that Silent Hill, Thief 1, System Shock, etc.....

I completely changed my mind on Half Life 2. I am wanting the game more then Doom 3 after watching these two 30 minute movies on it:

The physics are unreal. You can shoot wood into pieces, lift about anything with this anti-gravity gun. The amount of detail is amazing. I definitely want Half Life 2 now. I will still get Doom 3, but after seeing those movies, my entire view of the game has changed. The graphics look just as good as Doom's graphics imo.

I can't wait.

I can tell you what us Half-Life fans are thinking. We're thinking that the highest rated game of all time might have a pretty decent sequel. We're thinking that Half-Life had a bigger mod community than any other game, making it the best value, and all indications are that Valve is continuing their support for the mod community with HL2. We're thinking it might be fun to kill monsters by interacting with the environment, not just firing guns. We're thinking it might also be fun to lead a squad of a dozen AI companions. We're thinking it might be fun to fight monsters 50 times our size. We're thinking that the most succesful multiplayer games of the past few years (Counterstrike, TFC) will be back with better graphics, physics, and gameplay. I know Doom 3 is a good game and I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy it. It just doesn't particularly interest me. Whereas Half-Life 2 does for all of the above mentioned reasons. Nothing against Doom 3, it just doesn't interest me. We all like what we like.
