Yay i get Mala stirred...
In my post, I never said your rocks were random, I said they were...'jagged rocks with different colors applied to one set to give a 'stand-out' feel to a portion of th rocks'...which is exactly what they are. You colored them for a specific reason and I noted that. As for emulating a canyon, I think you could have done a tiny bit better, as in my mind a canyon has a steeper drop-off then what you showed in that pic, buts thats my opinion.Red-Orange spires perched on a steep cliffside. The sides are dirt because you cannot color them red-orange. I chose the angles I did to simulate the American Southwest sun beating down on them and creating shadows on their darksides. If this were Bryce Canyon these would have to be much taller but overpowered the landscape too much for Escalante so I chose a shorter height.
2)Eroded crevices and depressions at the base of the spires with sparse vegetation clinging for life in these lower patches.
3)A few lonely pines or spruce trees that managed to survive against all odds on a rocky, sandy cliffside.
Maybe you misread my first post, because the treeing i was referring to was in another screen ride6 posted. Even still I have one beef with this one's treeing. While I understand your reasoning for having the pines, I think that a canyon cliff (wallside) in real life would not have trees, especially tall pines sticking out the sides of the cliff. Maybe at the base, but the canyon wall I would imagine that no trees would be there. The sparse vegetation i could see.
I understood why you did that, and my initial post refering to the jagged rocks was not directed at the river portion of the rocks, only the red ones.4)Although I took artistic liberty to add a waterfall here, I chose to color the rocks around the falls in the darker rock texture to emulate some kind of erosion taking place due to the force of the water and the water itself sloughing off the top layer of strata and revealing a darker sub-strata but most of all giving a darker, water saturated look as there would surely be tons of spray and mist darkening the rocks color along the water's edge.
If you think it is ugly, or not my best work, well there is nothing I can do about that. I try different things that yield different results and create different emotions. I achieved what I wanted to here. If I decked it out with tons of trees shrubs and flowers, it would not be "realistic' to what inspired it in the first place.
I don't mean to repeat myself, I just feel like some of you are really not getting my intent. Oh well, you cannot please everyone, and that surely was not my intent here. You surely cannot expect me to start landscaping with some dreaded formula so that everything I do looks the same.
If you wanted to achieve a canyon look, then I wouldnt want you to deck it out with tons of trees and shrubs. You did just fine with that screen in my mind minus the trees. And no, I dont expect you to have a dreaded formula for your landscaping, even though you seem to love canyon-esque parks or mountainous ones. -

This was not intended to be directed at you Fatha' or anyone in particular. I just needed to point a few things out.
Just to expand on your reply:
This was not supposed to be a canyon. It was inspired by the atmosphere of a canyon and superimposed onto a cliff wall banking a waterfall.
It is fascinating to see a 50 year old pine with giant birds hanging out in it all perched on a portion of a cliffside that looks like it is about to give way and slide into the canyon interior which it will probably do one day. Trust me, trees do grow out of some canyon walls. It is what is unlikely about it that makes it so beautiful to see in real life.
And thanks for the love, Cork. -

You said...so should I say, it would have worked better for you and "a lot of other people" if the author chose you or "a lot of other people", in stead? If said sum lacks utility, everything else does, including your posts and mine but your ethereal implication will make more friends as further testimony to the Disney approach.Like I said... Mala builds on a whole different (and almost astral) plane than basically everyone else, so you can't really sum up his works in a "guide." Nice try, of course, but it doesn't work for me or a lot of other people. You can't explain a lot of things that come from the heart. Mala's stuff can definitely be said to come from the heart (as well as the mind).
Said things of the heart can be explained and rarely are, as a matter of experience - it seems you still need to read _a clearing in the distance_ and won't. -

Sorry... could you clarify yourself in less erudite phrasing? You kinda lost me there, and I'm not sure how to respond (depending on whether the statement was supporting or opposing me).You said...so should I say, it would have worked better for you and "a lot of other people" if the author chose you or "a lot of other people", in stead? Erudite? Me self is clear - ye'r talkin outta two sides of yer face, architort. This may impress the hard-of-thinking here and design fairies there but, it won't get you a paycheque anywhere. After you've read _a clearing in the distance_ examine the game in the correspondence between Mumford and Wright. Did they play small?Sorry... could you clarify yourself in less erudite phrasing?

and what exactly do you mean by "various personalities?"
I have just one, I assure you.
Just because you can't find anything to respond with doesn't mean making something up is a bright idea.
Despite your best efforts, you don't sound very intelligent at all. Using convoluted syntax and verbose phrases does not make your drivel any less empty than if you had said it simply and clearly.
edit - I fixed it... just for you. -

Aghast, a verdict! Does this one allow the others to proofread?and what exactly do you mean by "various personalities?"

ya know, I think I finally figured out what's wrong with you...

Apparently not, you're wrong again but at least you admit your thinking is slow. If there's anything wrong with me it's my belief that you might have some higher value than being ground up for pig food.ya know, I think I finally figured out what's wrong with you...

What's going on? I thought this was about mala? Who, by the way, still hasn't revealed the thinking behind Rift Valley for those of us interested in it. Ah well. -

True enough. I don't plan on returning to teaching a style of a person, just some basics that alot of people are in need of. I think I'll start with a "smooth rocks" sceanario before the end of the week. What's going on? I thought this was about mala? Who, by the way, still hasn't revealed the thinking behind Rift Valley for those of us interested in it. Ah well.
Well mantis he did say that his inspiration for it came from valleys and mountains in the Rocky Mountain range out west and that the black brick buildings were based on an abandoned mental reform facility near where he grew up. That's all I can remember though.
Only Mala himself can enlighten us since it's obvious that none of us can figure it out for outselves, let alone explain it to others.

ya know, all I wanted from you, is for you to make some sort of sense while posting. And the first post in which you make sense, all you do is insult me with far more hostility than I have ever shown to you. Good job. Now... would you care to explain what you meant in your previous posts or not? -

I have no hostility toward your person and no patience for certain behaviours. If you wanted to know what I meant, you might have asked up front; instead, you parachute into a dialogue with history and post flippantly about my language skills, attitude, and personal habits without knowing anything about me, my life, or intent.ya know, all I wanted from you, is for you to make some sort of sense while posting. And the first post in which you make sense, all you do is insult me with far more hostility than I have ever shown to you. Good job. Now... would you care to explain what you meant in your previous posts or not?
Now, you claim I've insulted you. This is a "poor me" classic, your whining for the audience, a pathetic rhetoric. If you want sense, even conversation, be authentic - if not, fuck off and stay fucked off.
Clear enough? Yes, cowards editing profiles are cowards and empty groupies implying empty threats are simply that, empty: a not-so-new element from the dark ages. Feudal = hostile, your self-hatred? -

Well, you've succeeded in getting me to wonder: what in the world is your background and personal history that gets you to come here to a web site for people who enjoy a roller coaster game and post using an impressive though frivolous display high end vocabulary in practically every post you make? Aren't you too smart for us or something? -

corky: my sentiments exactly... what is he trying to prove by doing so?
I got angry for 2 reasons:
1) You don't make much sense, but I get the DISTINCT impression that you think every word you utter is astronomically more important than anything else in the topic. You SOUND condescending, and if you weren't being so, then I am sorry for assuming so and insulting you.
2) I am weary of trying to figure out what exactly you are saying. It's only natural to assume that it means nothing if I can only get that much out of it, which is why I told you to work on your english. You simply aren't communicating properly. You twist structure, use words outside of their accepted definition, and don't finish your thoughts. Communication is very important to me, so when I think I see someone stepping on it for the sake of vanity, "beautifying" simple phrases, or trying to hide behind obscurity, it gets me angry. If that too is an assumption that is wrong, then again I am sorry. But I don't want to leave it at that... I would like it if you were to RE-phrase everything you have said in this topic in a way that the majority of the people who read it will be able to comprehend. If you have nothing to hide, then this is not that difficult a request.
