One guy took a shard to the chest? I'm surprised he didn't die.
  • Jellybones%s's Photo
I like it how they have no idea where the shards of metal came from. Real nice.

It's been shut down indefinitely? mmm....
oh yeah and sad about the metal...
  • John%s's Photo
In the scheme of a "amusement parks-are-bad" media, knowing the source of the shards of metal isn't necessary. ;)

Yeah, but this is pretty serious. Possibly, they came from the cable being partially sheared off or something.

Geez, what's with the horrible year for roller coasters? Add this to Big Thunder Mountain and that's TWO coasters that have hurt people this year where it was the coaster's fault, not the riders'.
  • Rct Flame%s's Photo
Yeah, it was metal shavings off of the launch cable...pretty freaky shit.
  • tracidEdge%s's Photo
Goddamn it, now everyone's going to think rollercoasters are dangerous.

Goddamn it, now everyone's going to think rollercoasters are dangerous.

Well, obviously they're more dangerous than not being on a roller coaster, but in the grand scheme, the number of riders compared to the number of injuries does not make riding coasters an extremely dangerous pasttime. I'm sure more people die or are injured on their way to theme parks than while actually at them.
  • Elephant6%s's Photo
Yeah, I heard somewhere that you're actually about twice as safe at an amusement park than when you're at home.

they didn't have it open when I went. I waited 5 hours for the piece of shit to open.

I would have rather been hit with shards of metal, or whatever, than keep waiting in that fucking line.

It's nothing special. IMO, I think they should demolish it and put another coaster there.. like a B&M flyer or something. It is fun for the whole 20 seconds you're on it, but for the hour-long line waits, the constant breakdowns and now this.. it's just not worth it.

Agreed, it's a fucking waste of money, time, space...

This may sound dumb, but indefintley means what? :SA:

It's really too bad the media likes to exploit all of the horrible things that happen at amusement parks - without the statistics and/or correct information.

I could see Dragster being outfitted with some other form of launch technology (i.e. S&S thrust-air) before they would decide to close and demolish it. They paid a hefty price, no one will want to admit their mistake before looking into other ways of fixing it. That, and I doubt anyone at Cedar Point would want to climb off their high horse of the "Roller Coaster Capital of the World", however idiotic that may sound. Losing out to the Xtreme Park would be the ultimate in defeat for a place that prides itself as being the biggest and the best.

And although I haven't ridden it yet, it doesn't seem that special, nor was it supposed to be, really. It was just another record to recapture after Nagashima "stole" it from them in 2000. The LEAST they could have done was invert it, or create some type of unique layout. Once you get to 200-300 feet, the rest really doesn't matter unless it has something special attached.

Yes, I was talking to someone there who had that idea. Hopefully they can actually get something that works correctly and consistently.
