General Chat / What coasters should be gone in less than 5 yrs?

  • gir%s's Photo

...I think Cedar Point regulars are getting spoilt and don't appreciate what they have.

I know of a lot of CP regulars at CoasterSims, and they are VERY appreciative of what they have, including Mean Streak. In fact, they said it got better this year. I think it may be the one-time visitors who think it's rough, namely people like my parents who think every wooden roller coaster is rough. (Haven't been to CP yet though)

^ That's cool. I was just making an assumption from what people who say they have ridden it alot think. I thought it was great last year when I rode it and would love a coaster like that in England.

I found Mean Streak and TTD both amazing rides, as long as Intamin can keep TTD running well with low mainteance problems then it will last longer then ten years regardless of other coasters breaking the height and speed record. I doubt it will take the route of S:TE.

Mean Streak is more likely to be replaced by another wooden coaster but there's not alot wrong with it either. So what if it is a bit rough, people need to stop being such cry babies and take a little bit of a shaking about it's all part of the fun, if you know you don't like it don't fucking ride it there is enough warnings. I don't understand why if Mean Streak needs to be tworn down why The Texas Giant doesn't? They are both very similar rides, I think Cedar Point regulars are getting spoilt and don't appreciate what they have.

I rode Mean Streak twice last year and I have no problem with how rough it is. The problem stems more from the fact that the ride has trims that are SO hard that it kills all the airtime without calming the earthquake. If those trims were gone I'd love it to death. TTD will not have the following that Magnum, Raptor and MF have in 5 years. Right now everyone loves it cause it's new, once there is two rides that happen to be better, faster and taller than TTD at the Point nobody is going to care about it anymore. Now if it remains the tallest ride there for 10 years or something then I can see it staying. And since the consentration for coasters has shifted from height to expearence it may be. Now Disaster Transport is a waste. The ride building is ugly, it takes up alot of space, and even though it's indoors it can't run during the rain!? That last one IS A FACT!

If they could get DT's problems in theming and bad weather opporation sorted out it would be better. Mean Streak needs to loose the trims. TTD has one trick, even being one hell of a trick, may not be enough to keep people interested if something bigger and better with *gasp* more tricks comes along.

That's all. I love TTD and it was well worth the nearly 3 hours I waited for it, and I would be willing to wait longer if I ever go back. But after 10 or 15 rides it'll be stale and I've ridden MF 17 times, 12 in the last 2 years and not a single ride was boring in the slightest.

I can see what you are saying about TTD loosing alot of interest as soon as the record is broken but it won't be enough that it will be taken down with in 5 years. By your reasoning Xcellerator, Dodonpa and all the other 'one trick' rocket coasters that are smaller then TTD are worthless.
  • gir%s's Photo
^ Yep. Xcerlerator, Hypersonic XLC, rides like those - they aren't worthless. Xcelerator for example, could be argued better than TTD because it's more than just a launch and a hill, the ride keeps going.

Also, ride6, if I remember correctly I heard that the trims on Mean Streak are off this year. I may be wrong though.

Damn... If I'd known that I would've taken the time to ride it when I was there last week. 8@

Hypersonic at least has a couple high speed turns and a bunny hop, Xcellerator runs through a figure-8 and Dodonpa accully has a pretty long course from what I've read. A few turns and 2-3 bunny hops along with the launch and hill.

Honestly if Dragster just has a couple more turns and a bunny hop it would be in my top five. It doesn't even have that much for airtime. Sure there is free fall in the drop but the twist kinda limits that and it CRAWLS over the top. If they could've added 20 more feet to the launch so you climb over the top at say, 20 mph it would be a kick ass ride. As is it has no real length and it has maybe 3 tricks: launch, clime, drop. The only one of those tricks that is really good is the launch, then the clime. Honestly the drop isn't any worse than Wicked Twister in the back seat (which is a blast, but with a 200 foot difference in height, WTF?)

I've been on Hypersonic BTW and even though I think Dragster is a supearor ride Hypersonic seems more memorable to me; and it had airtime, like insane air on the spike. Sure you crest going 40mph but that's what makes it great.

I personally want to see Disaster Transport removed before any of the other though. It's got to be taking up enough room for something along the lines of a Colossus (Thorp Park) clone if it invades a few parking spaces. And believe you me, I'd like to see a 8-12 inverting monster there than some inclosed bobsled that can't run in the rain due to ventilation.

Actully,I think Boomerangs all over are going to close down within 5 years. It's short, all pretty much the same, and don't look safe.
TTD will last as long as time allows. MF too. All Air-Powered coasters will last a VERY long time. The woodies won't die for a VERY VERY long time. Eventully,it'll be at the point where no one likes woodies anymore. And that simply will NOT happen. :D

I would love to seethe kiddie coaster and XLR8 at SFAW be torn down and put in a B&M invert or sitdown.
  • `sfkstyle%s's Photo
eh... The only one that I think should be removed is that SLC at SFWoA(or whatever CF is calling it).

I would love to seethe kiddie coaster be torn down

yeah, let's ruin it for the little kids, right.

The problem I have with mean streak is there isnt anything about it that stands out. no airtime, no laterals. and no speed with the trim brakes on the first drop (which were applied quite heavily 6.23). I could never even begin to imagine all that queue line filled up for that ride (see queue in middle of the "triangle").

Rode it once in 99...hated it...rode it again in 04...hated it.

Viper at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
    Fuck, that ride sucks.
  • Jellybones%s's Photo
Cyclone at SFNE. It used to be good when they had that breakneck drop and it was the most intense wooden coaster ever, but Six Flags castrated it and now everyone in the train has to lean forward to get over the hills. Waste of space. Either return it to its former glory, or knock it down and build a good woodie.

Also at SFNE, Batman: The (something something). The pink floorless one. 45 seconds of boring. Cut that shit.

    Fuck, that ride sucks.

Hmm, I love that ride. It's Psyclone that has to go.
  • JBruckner%s's Photo
    It's rough, dawg.
  • gir%s's Photo
^ Viper is fine, and it wasn't rough when I went there a few weeks ago. It's just a classic Arrow. :p I agree with yyo though, Psyclone should go. It's the only ride I hurt myself on, other than forgetting to brace myself and lean back on X!

No! I love the Ninja. I doubt the Boomerangs will be gone in five years. The shuttle loops still exist.
  • PymGuy%s's Photo

    No! I love the Ninja.

    Ninja needs to go, man.
Who wants to ride something that gives them a headache?
Plus it's not that special of a ride anyway... I'd pretty much take anything over it.
