The trouble with Lost in Translation is, it loses it's luster once you see the Wong Kar Wai films it's emulating. Chungking Express, Fallen Angels, In the Mood For Love. Brilliant films. Lost in Translation looks brilliant compared to US films but internationally, it's merely good. Not that that's a bad thing. Good is still good.
Unfortunately I saw Alien vs. Predator. Unbelievably bad in every way. On DVD I just watched Escape From New York. Interesting premise but I didn't like the plot much. Great music though by John Carpenter. Collateral was pretty good. -

I find LiT to be superior to most of WKW's stuff. Just a personal preference. The trouble with Lost in Translation is, it loses it's luster once you see the Wong Kar Wai films it's emulating. And yes, AvP sucks hardcore. Worst movie of the year.
Yesterday I saw Open Water, and while I personally can't understand how ANYONE could consider this one of the scariest movies ever (it's not scary at all), it was good.Open Water (Chris Kentis, 2004) ***- Though Open Water has few genuinely frightening moments, it’s thoroughly unnerving because of the way it plays on our primal fear of being alone and helpless in an impossible situation. It’s a solid thriller that has more in common with Phone Booth or Blair Witch than Jaws.
Collateral is the best movie of the year so far. -

I saw Hitchcock's Vertigo the first time on Saturday. Started off slow, but about midway through it became really interesting; some nice plot twists, and one "wait, did that just happen?" of an ending. I would call it one of the top ten movies I've seen, but don't take my word; I'm no film guru. -
Glory Offline
The Funnest stupid movie I saw was Attack From Mars:
It was funny when the president got stabbed, when the alien kill him with that hand.
