Yep, best game of the tournemant for me so far. It seemed that every time one team got a chance the other would follow up almost imediatly with a chance at the other end. Buffon made some fantastic saves, worldclass goalkeepers are a joy to watch. He reminded me of Schmeichel the way he pounced on one shot and flung his leg out seconds later to stop another. Me and Deano agree on something else, they must have put something in the water down here. For those who complain that 0-0's are boring, watch the highlights of the Italy v. Denmark match.

Chezch Republic 2 - Latvia 1 - Full Time.
------------------------------------
Germany 1 - Holland 0 - Half Time.
I'm hoping for a 1-1 draw to score maximum points in the prediction league I entered but I can see Germany scoring again, they look very dangerous at the moment for a defensivly minded formation. -

Frings' goal was so funny! They all missed it, and everyone kinda went 'oh...' and then it went in! Haha, and I reckon someone's gonna get sent off too. -

Yeh typical German goal. I can't believe there isn't a defensive mechanism against that... it happens time and time again, I remember Zola getting a few of those in the prem last year.
As Schmeichel says... Holland haven't turned up. Yet. -

0-0 isnt always boring but at club level it usually is! International matches are almost always exciting. -

Germany 1 Holland 1
Respect for van Nistelrooy, how he did play shit for most of it, but pull that acrobatic goal out of nowhere. Great service though, and great equaliser. Good game. The new German player who came on look's very promising, can't pronounce it cos was complicated, lol. -

DJ, they beat bulgaria
Interesting result... I think Czech Rep will run away with this group, they have the best team imo, Baros, Rosicky, Nedved etc. Cocu was atrocious, Holland were saved by a Van Nistelrooy classic - not many strikers in the world could have finished that... he rarely scores in style... but they all count.
Btw, I think Schweinsteiger means pig climber or something if you translate it (someone correct me). He was the best german player imo, wasnt afraid to actually play some adventurous footy. -

Schweinsteiger looks an amazing prospect for the future. Man Utd should snap him up for the right wing if you ask me (he'll probably be linked with Chelsea now I've said that). I'd love to see him in the premiership. I was hoping he'd score as it was his debut but was pleased when Holland eaqulised. It's my first correct prediction. -

In all fairness, Van N relies heavily on supply. He got two good balls, and scored 1. That's not a bad turn over, when you consider the quality of the two balls he got (Cocu's on 6 mins, and his goal) -

yeah that is true, there were no really good passes to him.but i think he can do better tough. In all fairness, Van N relies heavily on supply. He got two good balls, and scored 1. That's not a bad turn over, when you consider the quality of the two balls he got (Cocu's on 6 mins, and his goal)

It's my first correct prediction.
That's interesting, cos I was thinking, this competition so far has been so unpredictable it's unreal. But it all makes it fun. -

The way Holland play doesn't favour the loan striker being a 'goal poacher' like RVN is, they work best along side a strike partner who can create chances and shoot causing rebounds. That's why Holland so often dissapoint because their midfield just aren't providing any service or support in way of goals. They either need to get the wingers providing more balls and Van De Vart scoring or change to a two man strike force.
Oh and Mort, I know. I have two 1-0 wins predicted for tomorrow that I feel pretty confident about but knowing what happend before with Portugal I have no idea. Not one person out of 60 people who entered the competition predicted a Greece win, let alone the right score line. -

how?yeah that is true, there were no really good passes to him.but i think he can do better tough.
i thought Nistelrooy was the last person to blame.
Van der Meyde, but for the goal played horrible
Davids: ok, but so goddamn defensive
Zenden: i don't think he'll be playing anymore..
Overmars, i thought he played well..
Kahn, goddamn you. Two balls you shouldn't've saved.
Van de Sar- shouldn't he have been able to get that goal? looks like he hesitated or something.
Stam- terrible. such brute force, such tackles. He goddamn kicked a german in the head twice (though i liked that part =P)
Van der Vaart wasn't great either. one nice shot but nothing spectacular.
I hope Overmars, Seedorf, and Schneider all play from the start against Czech Republic, though i know Overmars might not be the fittest at the moment. If in anyway he's actually ready, Robben should definitely play. (maybe a half/half between Robben and Overmars?)
Oh, and i thought Pierre van Hooidonk played nicely as well. Too bad he couldn't pull of a Zidane like free kick (though i believe both were well further away from the goal) He did win like 80% of his head battles, which weren't won until then.
All three substitutions were very well received by me.
Anyways, for the way Holland played most of the game, 1-1 seems fair enough. There was more to be gained though, in the dying minutes (in my opinion)
Too bad Czech Republic decided to score twice =P (though well deserved, i know)
and to TPM: The two man striking force does NOT work. We've tried that for more than long enough. (and no, not one of the combinations between Kluivert, Makaay, and Nistelrooy) The wingers were definitely not producing enough balls though, agreed. Zenden didn't even go there, and van der Meyde just ruined ball possesion in the first half.
Oh well, one half to get warmed up, as long as they win the other two *remains positive.
