Van der Meyde should, since we don't have an incredible other player to put there.
And really, the way it was all in the beginning was fine. The first half other than Cocu's fault (and coming back and making a bad defending call) we wiped those Czechs away.
And in a way it's actually good that Nedved, etc. won't be playing. Now all those Czechs that want to play 'll show their best, and hopefully atleast tie germany.
Latvia isn't great, and should still be tired. (their striker couldn't run in the 60th minute, and in the 65th they were all on one half) (germany had near 70% ball possesion)
But really, Advocaat was right about one thing. After that first half, they should have been up with 3/4-0, not 2-1. And the Robben out would have been fine, if it was 3-1, coz then we could have chilled and played out the match. But at that moment the entire game shifted, and it was like waiting in front of the tv waiting for the Czechs to score. And that left side!! Van Nistelrooy was goddamn taking over Robben and passing through there twice, so did van Bronckhorst (whom also should play, it's not a matter of just chosing eleven good players, there position counts too, scarface, we'd be playing with four strikers and five midfielders of which 4 central otherwise) Anyways, all in all, Holland showed imo that they got the capability to beat any team out there. And even with a ref. not giving them penalties, stopping them for a free kick when the Czech keeper loses the ball and we can score, giving Seedorf a yellow, and Heitinga a unearned red, and we still were able to have big chances at 3-2 and 3-3 with 10 players not including both Robben and Van der Meyde, and not Seedorf either (whom had some of the greatest near moments in the match) Oh and that shot from Heitinga... and Davids. WHY!!!!! -

Was Robben actually injured or something? Cos if he was, then sure, substitue him. But if he wasn't, then...uh...well, that was a stupid decision.
Brilliant game - how the hell does Nedved kick it so hard? That one shot he had that hit the crossbar...wow! -

no robben wasn't injured, but he was injured for euro 2004. it was a really good game, davids, robben and v.d sar play'd a fantastic game.also nedved was fantastic. but the referee was teribble and also the coach of holland. Was Robben actually injured or something? Cos if he was, then sure, substitue him. But if he wasn't, then...uh...well, that was a stupid decision.

No, Robben wasn't injured... in fact, he was MAD Advocaat substituted him (just look at the moment he was going out)! Not only he, but everybody here in Holland was! If Holland doesn't qualify, meaning Germany wins from Czech rep., Advocaat is out... It's still unbelievable he substituted Robben for Bosvelt... he basically gave the game away. His excuse was, as I expected, that Robben was out for 2 months because of an injury, and therfore couldn't play for the whole 90 min., which is bullshit. He was recovered, and ready to go, for 90 minutes, and he could go for that remaining 30 minutes, as he basically said afterwards... Advocaat=Dick
Anyway, interesting match tonight!

i wondered about that too. was a great shoot, but not the only good one in the game. the first games gave me the impression that it's impossible to shoot the ball that good.Brilliant game - how the hell does Nedved kick it so hard? That one shot he had that hit the crossbar...wow!
germany latvia was a fu**ing boring game. i nearly fell asleep, but the Czechs and the Dutch woke me up again.
maybe spain portugal will ba as good as that game, although i canÄt belive that, cause they played both not that good in their first group games.
rehagel go and win group A. -

I know what your saying "wme" but there is no way people of van bronchorst quality should be in the holland first team...just no way -

The czechs rules! Turning 0-2 into 3-2 shows a good team morale.... And germany - latvia... really wanted latvia to win.
Just have to say (because I'm swe) that Italy's reaction to the fact that sweden and denmark can decide to play 2-2 and that they will do so only to knock Italy out is bad. I think it's quite unsporting to just mention that... why would the swedes and danes do that? I don't know if they will do so, but i really hope they wont... No offense to italian persons in general, but they often get upset whitout good reasons in football connections. thats my opinion.

Russia lead Greece 1-0 after 2mins.
It is possible that if Russia continue to score Portugal and Spain could go through.
-----
Update - 2-0 to Russia!
-----
Half time and Russia still lead Greece by 2 goals to 1.
Portugal 0 - 0 Spain.
As things stand Spain and Greece will make the quarter finals. -

First half of the Spain/Portugal match was dire so I stopped watching. How many times do both teams need to pass the ball to the other side? Seriously? -

Portugal 1 - Spain 0
Greece 1 - Russia 2
Greece and Portugal are the first to qualify for the quater finals. Spain continue to be the most hit and miss side in international football, I can't understand why Morientes didn't start though. The game livended up in the last half hour but didn't live up to the hype. -

Cristiano, Cristiano, Cristiano. Next season if he plays like that he will be incredible in the Premiership. The amount of players he skinned is unreal, let alone megged 2 people on the trot. Great game, loved every minute. -

about every other expert is disagreeing. (Koeman, Adriaanse, van Gaal, Cruijff)
and making those lovely sarcastic remarks about what he must have said to the sub trainer person thingies. "let's substitute Robben" "hey!!, why not?!"
Ok, i've been watching too much tv.. -

Cool. Greece advances but spain not. exactly what I hoped forC Ronaldo is awesome! he shows so little respect for his opponents... dribbles two player whenever he wants a bit nonchalant... hehe
portgal played good and I think they owned the game mostly. It was the last 20 minutes Spain pressed them a bit. Torres shot in the post was not bad. and so on. But I'm happy porugal did win.

Guys what is this about Totti being overrated. Jesus people, whats this opinion based on? The 90 minutes he played against Denmark? Totti is anything but overrated in fact I feel he is underrated. The English press seem to turn a blind eye to the happenings of Italian football.
For instance in Milan's 4 - 1 thumping of Deportivo, Des Lynam and Terry Venables seemed to regard Milan as a defensive and boring side basing there opiunon on the Champions League Final in Manchester the year before. Kaka' was brushed aside as just another average player but anyone who watches Italian football knew he was probably one of the Top 5 footballers in the world on current form. Then when he scored two excellent goals, they pretended that they knew he was a don all along.
The same goes for Totti, when I have watched Roma play this season he has been absolutely sensational and his telepathic partnership with Cassano is just a joy to watch. In my opinion Totti is a unbelievably talented footballer and just needs Crapattoni to play him right to allow to bring his form into the International scene.
On Trap, does anyone understand his tactics and squad selection? Gilardinho, Miccoli and Inzaghi are all players that if they were brought on against Sweden could of allowed Italy to attack further. Trap committed tactical suicide by leaving those 3 out the squad (espicially Gilardinho and Inzahgi) as they are perfectly capable of playing alone up front instead of Vieri. Lets be honest who would you rather have on the bench? Gilardinho or Di Viao? What an idiot. If Italy do go out Trap needs to get the boot.
Finally, how on Earth is Rooney worth 50 million. Jesus his form this season has been inconsistent and while he was brilliant in both our games, I feel that he is yet to justify this huge sum of money that is being branded around his name. If Rooney, who has is been inconsistent this season, is worth 50 million, then Cassano, Kaka and Ronaldinho are worth 100 millon. Easily.
Italian football is brilliant to watch and I'am sick of this defensive and boring stereotype that is linked with there National Team. Italian football is great to watch and I personally prefer it over La Liga. Therefore I feel it is harst to call Totti overrated when this season he has been nothing short of incredible and yet there is little to no press coverage of his form. Overrated, no. Underrated, yes.
