Actually, it's not at all chavish. The definition of a chav, defined only days ago by Collins, is "a young working class person who dresses in casual sports clothing". I am certainly not working class and I'm wearing diesel, which isn't sports clothing. So it's not chavish. They're beer trophies, everyone does it here, it's part of the life of a uni city. One year, someone stole a penguin from Clifton Zoo in a beer trophy competition against UWE. Their entry was a traffic light. We won. If you'd ever been to the cory tap, the loss of which every student in bristol is currently mourning, you'd understand. And this was our last ever tap so it was always going to be a big sesh.
Quote taken from here Hmm, sure your actions were not "chavish"? Thats why i called you a chav. Oh btw deano, going by your definition, is a sportsman a chav?Emerging British subculture which is quickly becoming an epidemic. Chavs can be found the length and breadth of the country, hanging around any junk food outlet, off licence or just hanging around the streets, where they pass the time by vandalising property, drinking cheap cider, shouting abuse at passers by and terrorising old people.

artist, you still don't get it...
and honestly... you are fucking trash. You just want any excuse to look down on others. Get the fuck out of here you pretentious, pseudo-intellectual, spineless waste of a human being.
The whole discussion is dripping with fucking irony, considering YOU are the one who ties himself to an image like the shallow prat you are, and deano is simply enjoying himself... and YOU start labeling HIM?! Judging HIM?!!
Just get out. Now. This thread no longer requires your presence. -

I kinda agree with him though...if other people are out stealing penguins and shit, you could at least make more of an effort than taking estate agent signs from the side of the road... -

Oh we did mantis, but those photos are incriminating. But then again any of my posts which you have an opportunity to disagree with you will because for some reason you don't seem to be able to stand me right now. -

So now urban dictionary is better than collins? You don't seem to understand that human nature is selfish. I couldn't give a shit if some guy I don't know has to replace the sign the day after. It has no relevance to me at all, and to pretend it does would be being selfish in trying to make myself look like a nice person, and to actually care about it selflessly would be to choose non-being. I had fun. Fact. I don't see your problem with that.
Coming from someone who wears nickelson, your opinions on chavs are completely void anyway, and I don't label everyone else a chav at all. That's just complete bollocks. I don't "do" labelling at all, apart from to wind you up for my own amusement. -

Well consider this paybackapart from to wind you up for my own amusement.
Deano, i will agree with you, chavs wear nickleson but im not going to stop wearing a jumper i like just because it is associated with that group. i liked the top thats all there is too it. Deano, i understand you were having fun an all and that's great but i just dont agree with stealing stuff. I think we should just end this now because it seems our little arguments piss everyone else off if you want to talk to me about this online then do so - primedartist but for now this topic should get back on track and i am sorry for bringing this all up in the first place. -

This argument has gotten really interesting, but its pretty much a stalemate, on both sides of the table. It really has nothing to do with "labeling" someone a criminal, chav, etc... and I'll try to explain why.
While I can understand why deano did what he did, I also am against the destruction, vandalism and theft of other people's property. As an insurance adjuster, I know first hand the agony, frustrastion and costs involved with intentional and downright malicious behavior such as this (albeit job security for me...lol). However, I also understand the pressure to fit in with a crowd in college. I can say that I participated in two riots in college (when the Denver Broncos won back to back Super Bowls) and had incredible fun doing it. At the time, I didn't really care that I was destroying someone's property. I was too worried about having fun; caught up in the act of being an adolscent. It felt good, real good to fit in with a crowd and look cool in front of my friends, not to mention some excellent entertainment. So, I can't punish deano for being young and mischievous. Its part of life that most of us experience and should not be considered "inappropriate" behaviour. With that said, I now look back and realize what maturity has done to me. I could picture myself as one of the vehicle owners whose car was trashed by riot-goers celebrating nothing more than a good excuse to be destructive. Its kind of sickening actually. Deano, you say that your selfishness gives you no remorse about what you did? This tells me that you've never been a victim, but always the perpatrator. While that may not be true, you still should realize that selfishness should never outweigh respect for others and property of others (including those you don't know). Would you have done that if you were not with your friends? Honestly, I don't think you would of, therefore selfishness is not the proximate cause of what you did, its peer pressure. Basically, I'm saying you did what you did to fit in with your frat, friends, whatever, and it ended up being entertaining because you fulfilled that pressure with some element of risk involved and your friends right there to see it. This time it paid off, by not getting caught and completing your mission (whatever mission that may be), and therefore fun. So, in conclusion, I completely understand with WHY you did it, but I don't agree with end result of your behaviour.
damn, I felt like my Dad writing this. I'm getting too old.
OK, back on topic. sorry. -

Artist is teh chav.
To wrap it up, looking at your dress sense artist, i would class you as a chav in that respect, but obviously, not everyone that wears nickleson is a chav, so it isn't as easily defined as Collins definition. I also think that stealing signs etc. is easily classed as a "chav" like activity, but I would also regard it as a drunken uni student act so once again, it isn't as easily defined as urban dictionary's definition. Besides I am pretty sure i'll be getting into that kinda stuff starting september when i start uni myself. To be honest, I would rather have my houses' for sale sign stolen than be hurled abuse at/beaten shitless. Obviously, I'd rather neither, and yes, it is an inconvenience to the person who's house/sign it is, and as Jkay said, creates complications, but I would come to expect it in a student area by a university. We've all been pissed before haven't we? It's not as if you give much of a shit about others whilst doing so? Say you're at a house party of someone you hardly know and someone spills a beer. You're fucked out of your nut, your first thought isn't "oh, better go and clean that up" is it (unless it is your own house...been there many a time). So yeah, you are pretty selfish when drunk, so what?
So, at the end of the day, you're both wrong, and I'm right

That picture of me was taken like a year ago, i still wear chavish clothes, such as nike and reebok, there nice to wear when you want to relax/chill out. Im not a chav, chav is a horrible name really and it has affected alot of people. Chav's are now Britons new "group", i hate them. If you see someone with the hood up now people will class you as a chav and imo that's awful. Chavs are mearly a common word for useless teenagers who like to cause trouble, the word chav in my school is another word for a pikie. There is alot of meanings for the word and it's very hard to define someone over the internet as a chav. Deano i agree that we were both wrong but we are both not chavs and i hope you can agree with that, when your not drunk or in a pissed off mood i can believe that you are a nice guy, actually i know you are, we used to speak ALOT. I say we just ban this "chav" word on ne now because me and deano have proved it cant be used sensibly
Im sorry for starting this disscusion and im sorry for giving you (as blitz said) a label, but you cant say that this hasn't been an intresting disscusion.
Also i was being a hypocrite i have done my share of naughty acts, such as buying 30 eggs and hurling them at my next door neighbour's house when i was 12, so yeah i know whats it's like to act stupid, cause a problem and enjoy it at the same time. Hope we can just forget all this deano and start again like it was one year ago. -

Ok.
Jkay, it's really not about fitting in. I know what you mean because I had that at school, but at uni I am completely myself and I don't feel any pressure amongst friends to behave in any way. The 5 of us taking a few beer trophies off the street is hardly comparable to a riot in which cars get wrecked either. If I had to analyse socially why we took the signs I'd say it was because we were very drunk and when you're drunk you feel elated and want to have some kind of reward for the great person you think you are - ie, there's a very good reason why they're called beer trophies. I mean, of course I wouldn't have done that if I wasn't with my friends, but then humans are social animals and I would never get drunk on my own in the first place! -
