If I recall, it gets about 24 max MPG on highway...and 18 (or something like that) in city. And, it's not a truck bed...it's only about 6 more inches longer than a regular Wrangler so you actually have some cargo space in the back. Anyways...I like it, and that's what counts.this is true. but you can't win em all.
actually, coasterfrk, how is the mileage on that thing? Because my 91 Wrangler gets like 12 mpg on average. -

well how about that.
if I trade my current Wrangler in alls I'll need is about $18,000 to get a new one. -

Meh, I don't have a Wrangler, but I have a Cherokee (I think it's a Liberty for you Americans). It does about 20 miles to the gallon. -

I don't see what is wrong with more green-friendly cars, public transport, bicycles, walking...just generally caring about the world. It doesn't take that much effort. -

You live in a much smaller and compacted country. We live in an expasionist state. It's sorta the fallout that comes with living ruggedly during the first couple scores of our country's existance. We have the big and bad, rough and tough attitude and our cars show it. Also, in most parts of this country there is no public transportation, or it's underdeveloped. So, um.. yeah.
I personally would like to see America convert to tiny cars like you guys over the pond use. I'd feel so much safer. -

uh well we used to have Cherokees, but then they were discontinued in favor of the Liberty, which is what my mom drives and also has poor gas mileage.Meh, I don't have a Wrangler, but I have a Cherokee (I think it's a Liberty for you Americans). It does about 20 miles to the gallon.
certainly there's nothing wrong with it, but it's not practical in my situation. public transport in the suburbs? none such. and bicycles do me no good in the snowy New England winters...for that I need 4WD, which my Jeep provides superbly. I do like riding my bike around the neighborhood in the summertime though. and then of course, there is cost. eco-friendly cars are ultimately cheaper, but fact is I don't have that kind of money right now. I bought my Jeep for $4500. find me a hybrid or electric car for that? you can't because there are no used hybrids to speak of, they're still too new on the market. for me to get a hybrid, it would cost me probably three, four, five times as much as my Jeep did. I understand that I would spend less on gas, but then where does the electricity come from? magic unicorn fields? no, I'd have to pay for that too. don't get me wrong, I'm down with the environment. but a hybrid car is something that a 16-year-old can't really buy handily. after college I'd definitely look into getting one when I need a new car, though.I don't see what is wrong with more green-friendly cars, public transport, bicycles, walking...just generally caring about the world. true, but hybrid tech is still fairly new. in time you'll see hybrids become both more popular and cheaper. in fact I have no doubt in my mind that we'll see a hybrid Jeep within maybe 10-20 years. there is one hybrid SUV I know of (Ford Escape Hybrid) but the Escape is pushing what you might call an SUV and since it's a Ford, it's could break at any moment. -

I'm getting a Nissan 350Z when i can save up enough for it :-\
I'm about 1/40th of the way there!
But i did find a used one with only 4000 miles on it for 8,000 off the starting price, so thats chill. -

Nice choice...that's my dream car right there.I'm getting a Nissan 350Z when i can save up enough for it :-\

Anyways, after actually taking the time to look up the fuel economy specs, I found out I fudged the numbers (maybe I was thinking about one of the other cars we looked at). The actual specs are 16-19/20 MPG. Oh well, but it still gets much better than 12 MPG. I had my first run around my neighborhood driving stick for the first time. Overall, I'm ok, I just have to get used to the balance of gas and clutch when starting up in first gear.
Anyways, I would consider public transit and the like...but I live out in a more rural area where those things are either nonexistent or impractical. It's a 20 mile (25-30 min.) drive to school and anywhere else in civilization where I could catch any public transit. If I lived in the city...I would take full advantage of public transit, bicycling, walking etc.
Well, sorry for getting this thread SO off topic...I'll stop now. -

and I'll start again!
I think I somehow managed to find the only automatic Wrangler in the world. it makes me sad. I prefer standards, but oh well.
