Thats me down there climbing Mount Shlomo at the southern tip of Israel. It was easily the hardest hike I've been on, we went to the top of THIS although the view was worth it - http://img125.images.../img0122mw1.jpg (the Red Sea and the city of Eilat with Jordan in the distance)

Tehe, from my snowboard trip couple months back.. What you can't see is that there really is no safe way down there, just steep nasty cliffs. We had to walk up abit >_<. I'm the furthest one down.

There isn't nearly enough snow on those cliffs. Was there just a lack of snowfall, or is that too steep to hold snow? (It's hard to get a good read on slope angles through photos.)

Well, first of all it was in april. There wasn't that much snow in the first place until we got there. It snowed a couple of days and we were able to cut through quite a nice layer of snow.

My guess is that because it has this kind of valley thing going on, it was the wrong side of the valley more then anything because the other side was snowy. The picture was made by a friend who chose the right direction..

And it was pretty steep there, the cliffs go downward quite a bit from there. We had to walk up a bit and were able to cut through a small stroke of snow :).

this is a bit further up.. that also explains why we couldn't see exactly where we were ending up ;P.
