NEW YORK, May 25 /U.S. Newswire/ -- LOGO, a new cable television network targeted at lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) viewers will be launched by MTV Networks, a division of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA, VIAB) on February 17, 2005. The new channel will be advertiser-supported, targeting primarily gays and lesbians, 25-49, and will provide a mix of original and acquired programming that is authentic, smart, inclusive and open-minded.

LOGO will launch in markets across America, including Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta and San Francisco, through national cable operators, including Time Warner Cable, RCN and additional distributors that will be announced in the coming weeks. LOGO joins Viacom's roster of popular and highly-targeted cable networks which includes MTV, Comedy Central, BET and Spike TV.

"Creating a network specifically for the LGBT community is something we've wanted to do for a long, long time, and it's an idea we feel is overdue," said Tom Freston, chairman and CEO of MTV Networks. "Despite our nation's progress on civil rights and the growing visibility of gay people in business, society and even in television programming -- what has been missing is a full-time home for this important and influential audience on television. We have big plans and hopes for LOGO and I'm thrilled to finally announce its arrival."

Market researchers estimate the gay and lesbian population at 15 million adults, with a projected buying power of $485 billion (according to MarketResearch.com) and it is increasingly the target for many Fortune 500 companies.

"LOGO is all about identity: the individual and collective identities present in the gay and lesbian community that are amazingly diverse, but are joined by similar points of view and sensibilities," said Judy McGrath, president of the MTV Networks Music and Comedy Group. "MTV Networks has a great history of connecting deeply with its audiences and it's our great hope that gay and lesbian audiences will connect with LOGO like viewers connect with our other strong brands."

LOGO will offer advertising and sponsorship opportunities beyond the traditional 30 second commercial spot. Key advertisers will be able to integrate their marketing messages into LOGO's programming in unique ways, including product placement, editorial segments within programs involving their brand, online integration, development of contests and sweepstakes as well as take advantage of off-channel marketing opportunities.

For its initial launch phase, LOGO will have a mix of original and acquired programming. LOGO is already reaching out to some of the most talented and creative producers and writers to develop original series and specials. In addition, original content will be developed in collaboration with other Viacom networks, including Showtime, CBS News, VH1, MTV, Comedy Central and TV Land and will draw from its expertise in every area including entertainment, documentaries and news.

Additionally, deals are in place to acquire over 100 movie titles from a wide range of studios including, Sony, MGM, Paramount, Warner Bros., New Line, Showtime, Lions Gate, Sundance, Strand Releasing, and Sneak Preview Entertainment.

As a complement to the new digital basic channel, LOGO will offer a subscriber video on-demand service (SVOD). The SVOD service will offer approximately 70 percent movies.

MTV pretty much sucks to begin with. Now they go and add a gay channel. Television seriously blows.

I find it amusing, the number of people who care about not caring about Dior's posts.

I thought they called it the BRAVO channel.

I keep going back to weekend update from SNL

"Playgirl will be launching their new channel in the fall, it will be the first porn channel for women...watched by men."

Why do you all throw a fit when he posts? I mean, I know you all just "don't care", but no one cares if Marshy's school had a fire, either. Yet for some reason, no one throws out the "I AM NOT TO BE THE CARING" comments at him. Somehow, though, Dior posting a topic that is non-offensive and actually rather constructive, and people still take the piss out of him... grow up people, for the love of god.

I saw this earlier. Does LOGO mean anything? The only thing I can think of is Lesbians Or Gays Only. It'll be interestign to see how well this does. I now await the FCC fans and their demandings that the government pull the station.

    Actually,

Meretrix does not give a shit about a gay TV channel.

Meretrix DOES give a shit about the fact that Virginia just passed the MOST discriminatory amendment today. This country is headed in two very WRONG directions. On one end, you have the screaming liberals for letting people walk around naked and screw everything that moves. On the other, you have conservative Nazi's who want to send anyone who is not straight, white, and heterosexual, to an internment camp.

I am amazed at the sheer lack of BALANCE in this country. It has become SO polarized, each extreme pointing fingers and trying to outdo the other in their outlandishness.

For a really bad example of where this leads....rent "A Handmaid's Tale", or better yet, read the book. It is a very scary take on where Amurika is headed.

Chris and I have actually decided that if Dubya gets re-appointed as Pres this year....we are selling all of our property, and relocating to Vancouver. America is no longer a free place, rather a very scary "Theocracy" bully that thinks it rules the world. I want no part of it.

I don't really know why there wasn't a gay channel in the first place. There's BET, Lifetime, Spike, etc.. all targetted at a specific race or gender, so why not sexual orientation? The only thing that is upsetting is the fact that MTV is running it, and will most likely exagerate how the "stereotypical gay" acts.

That's because Marshy's topic wasn't annoying to anyone (I wouldn't think). Dior is taking being openly gay too far. I have absolutely no problem with gay people. But when gays start being too openly gay such as Skyler or Dior, they are trying to be annoying. It's like when any race that has been discriminated before. They start to use the fact that they have been discriminated before and then use that power and abuse it against other people. Everyone has to blame everyone on racism and sexual orientation. 'It's because I'm black huh?!" "Are you racist againts mexicans?!" Except we are not dealing with race here. We are dealing with sexual orientation.

All I ask is that Dior would take this "openly gay" attitude a tad down. I am not homophobic in anyway. Comments such as " Hey baby. Were you wearing a cup in this picture? If so does it runneth over?" or " I just got an erection...Call me" are really not needed. I do not see other straight people who say things like that in every post.

An btw, my little instant message converation with you was all a joke I hope you know.

The one about you fucking a bar of soap? I'm sure.

Regardless, there's nothing wrong with this topic, so all the DiorHaters can shut up in here.

    Turtle...

    Your comments are duly noted.

In the future, I suggest that you refrain from making any "overtly heterosexual" comments, should any pictures of particularly attractive women be posted here. Hopefully, you get where I'm going with this.

Yes, we all know that Skylor and Dior, and to a certain extent Critic (now don't get all pissy with me ladies), are just young (and by that I mean...not jaded like me), and when you have been more or less "forced" to keep who you are at the core of your being (cause once again, I have to tell you that being gay or lesbian is NOT a choice) a secret, or hidden for much of your life, then when you do "come out" it's sort of like a well spring flowing over, and the whole "kid in the candy store" analogy kinda gets blown WAY out of proportion. Eventually, we all settle down, and find some semblance of balance, however that may be. In the meantime, these gals want to shake things up, and it only fuels their fire when you post stupid shit like that...so if you really want to take the wind out of their sails....stop getting so damn uptight about it....otherwise people might...gasp...think that YOU have "something to hide".

Tee hee, tee hee, snicker, snicker, snicker. (Sorry T-Man, you kinda asked for it)
    ;)

What needs to be understood is that people are entitled to their own opinions. I am so tired of seeing members who are "pro-gay" bashing "anti-gay" members and vice versa. Some are saying that members are being close minded about things. Well, here's a newsflash: by not trying to understand another person's view, you are being close minded as well. Open yourself up to other people's views, even if you don't agree with them, and I can almost guarantee that NE will become much less hectic.

Now, personally, I wouldn't want to see or watch a gay channel because I am straight. But I know that there are gay people out there and that they want some entertainment geared toward their interests. Denying them that right would be fucked up since "the pursuit of happiness" is part of the American dream. The world is getting larger every day and our culture must change with it. I do agree that America is no longer a democracy, but that doesn't mean it is a Nazi nation.

And Meretrix, I think GWB chances of reelection are slim to none anymore so don't pack up yet. ;)
