General Chat / better rapper?

I like Roots Manuva, some of the stuff he did with another British rap outfit called Blak Twang is wonderful.
  • PymGuy%s's Photo
Also, Gift Of Gab (of Blackalicious) is quite a good lyricist too.

Oh, and Chali 2na, I love his style and his voice.

Top Ten rap / hip-hop songs of all time:

    1. 2Pac / "How Do You Want It" / All Eyez On Me

As you can see, Eminem barely made my top tens, his first album was the only one I liked...."Nuthin but a G Thang", on The Chronic should fit in my top ten songs somewhere, but oh well...
  • Richie%s's Photo
I dont see 'Stan' on there anywhere, IMO its better than 'My Name Is'.

Top Ten rap / hip-hop songs of all time:
    1.  2Pac / "How Do You Want It" / All Eyez On Me

All Eyes On Me is overrated. It definetly has it's good tracks, but there are some pretty bad ones on that. On top of that, the album has no continuity. Many albums have an overall feel to them, and All Eyes On Me lacks this. The other albums are definetly influential, but they are so far from being the best albums. Albums that should be on there:
"Like Water For Chocolate" by Common
    "Reflection Eternal" by Talib Kweli
    "EXIT" by K-Os
"The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" by Lauryn Hill

As for songs, "How Do You Want It" and "My Name Is" in a top ten of all time list. Oh god. Those have horrible beats, horrible lyrics and are really nothing special. There are so many better songs that define hip hop that those, and so many better songs period. I won't even bother listing any, but that list was ugly!

    Everyone has their opinions, natelox.
  • JKay%s's Photo
thnx EmoChris.....you're right...this was a JKay list, not a natelox list....therefore its not really fair to say my list was ugly....and remember nate that this was a list for what I consider 'commercial' rap/rappers.....I could make another list of undergroud stuff if you like??......lets see your list nate, cause I tell you right now I wont like it if Lauren Hill and Common are on it....

Everyone has their opinions, how dare you say that something is crap just becuase it doesn't have underground cred or meaningful lyrics. This isn't about what natelox likes, it's everyones opinions, and people have different tastes.

Yeah, and that was nate's opinion, dude. Everything on these boards is an opinion, and it's ridiculous to hold double standards when it comes to people debating things.

JKay - i'm surprised you even begin to think that way. If anything you should be arguing your point, not going on the defensive, making out that nate's being unreasonable.

    Bah.

Everyone has their opinions, how dare you say that something is crap just becuase it doesn't have underground cred or meaningful lyrics.  This isn't about what natelox likes, it's everyones opinions, and people have different tastes.

Of course everyone has their own opinions, however, he said: "Top Ten rap / hip-hop albums of all time" and "Top Ten rap / hip-hop songs of all time", which makes him sound like he is the guru of hip hop and the most knowledgeable in the topic. How dare he claim that list is an all time list. Had he labled it "Jkay's Favorite Hip Hop Albums", my response might have been quite different. As for you, EmoChris9, you must understand that the point of these boards/forums is to argue oppinions, and if we didn't do this, there would be no point to them.

EDIT: Having just read Jkay's latest reply, I shall post my list, entitled:
    Nate's Favorite Hip Hop Albums:

    1. "Exit" by K-Os
    2. "The Pangea Project" by Change, Equinox199, Kamau, Natural
    3. "First" by Kamau
    4. "Global Warning" by Rascalz
    V. "A Sample And A Drum Machine" by Dl Incognito
    6. "R U Still Down [Remember Me?]" by 2pac
    7. "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" by Lauryn Hill
    8. "From The Crates: My Demo" by Choclair
    9. "Still I Rise" by 2pac and Outlawz
    X. "Cash Crop" by Rascalz

    Ack.

thank you mantis....Nate, I really wasnt trying to come off as being the end-all, be-all guru of rap/hiphop....and I figured that people would realize that the list I put up was "my" list and not "the" list based on the fact that it was a "jkay" post....anyway, nate no hard feelings I hope...I respect your list probably just as much as you respect mine so....I just think its just cool to see peoples tastes in rap/hiphop....

I'm not much of a rap fan, but I do give respect to Run DMC for being pioneers, Tupac for being such an artist, and Saul Williams for being such a good slam poet.

Hey, you know who else really good.

    Madvillain

Collaboration between MF Doom and Madlib. MF Doom has a ridiculous delivery, as always, but what I really like is Madlib's beats and samples. He uses lots of crazy 1940s news broadcasts and weird comic book cartoon music. It's fuckin great.
  • Rct Flame%s's Photo
Missy for her lyrics and the beats she whores from Timbaland.
    Outkast because...they're outkast.

And am I the only one who realizes how rediculously SICK Lil' Jon's beats are? He's gotta be the hottest right now.

The Streets. Awesome accent, plus he's an incredible lyricist.
