We are studying WWII now in history so I been watching a lot of WWII movies. So far I like:

    Saving Private Ryan
    U-571
    Tora! Tora! Tora!
    Patton
    Memphis Belle
    Schindler's List
    Pearl Harbor

That's all I really saw so far. I haven't really liked WWII movies until now.

    What are your favorites?

u571 was ok... except us Brits discovered that code, not the Americans ;) That caused quite a fuss over here, actually.

Anyway... same as everyone else really, plus Enemy at the Gates.

It's not a movie, but a mini series....... Watch Band of Brothers. It might take a few days to watch, but it is worth it and goes into 1000 times more detail than Saving Private Ryan.

    pearl habour

Oh gos, not that horrible movie again 8@

People liked Pearl Harbor? It was awful... and the less said about Windtalkers the better. John Woo tried to film WWII like an 80's macho action movie. Yuck.

    Anyway...

    The Thin Red Line
    Das Boot
    Battle of Britain
    Tora! Tora! Tora!
    Twelve O'Clock High
Band of Brothers (though technically not a film, it's superior in every way to Saving Private Ryan)
Patton (maybe my favorite of the ones I've listed)

Yep. I agree. Excellent mini-series. We have them all on DVD. (And the special features are awesome too)

Come to think of it, I haven't seen that many WWII movies. Das Boot is good because it takes a different POV than most (it was made by a German director after all). The Thin Red Line is a beautiful philosophical piece on war that takes place during WWII but it really could be set during any war without changing the meaning of the film any. Sortof like Apocalypse Now. Well it's a good war movie anyway.

    Patton just finished on AMC.
That is one good movie. A general leads troops to victory in Africa and Sicily, gets relieved of his command for hitting a soldier and running his mouth, then gets a second chance in the Allied invasion of Europe and the Battle of the Bulge. He's a good leader, really tough and stubborn, with a bit of a temper. Encompasses a huge variety of backgrounds, from African deserts to France in winter. Of course like all the old war movies it's long, but I'd recommend it to anyone. I see that it's already on a few people's lists and now it will be on mine.
