After months of heavy speculation was to what the recent construction on land adjacent to the Walt Disney Escape Magic Kingdom was, the Walt Disney Company has finally come forward to unwarp the secrets. The Walt Disney Company is proud to introduce DisneySEA Spain, a brand new theme park that will be opening its gates next year!

After the tremendous success achieved by the opening of the Walt Disney Escape Resort, officials immediately embarked on the long denied but secretly planned Phase II Expansion, which was to encompass a brand new theme park and a third hotel joining the resort. The result will be DisneySEA Spain, a theme park inspired by the aquatic themes of the world. Similar to its sister park Tokyo DisneySEA, this park will feature heavy and detailed theming to various ports of the world. Though the park will not be a full mirror of its Tokyo brethren, there will be may similaries, such as the presence of Mysterious Island dominating the center of the park.

There will be seven themed lands, however, which are as follows:

La Mediterranea
Welcome to this coastal Italian town bubbling with excitement and activity. This charming seaside village features distinct architecture reminiscent of the classic Venetian style, and its calm, relaxed atmosphere will overwhelm guests who step into its borders. Take a gentle gondola ride through the canals or board the DisneySEA Water Transit Line for a chance to explore other worlds. Those who prefer to walk can enter the New England Waterfront or Mysterious Island from here.

New England Waterfront
Accessible from La Mediterranea and Discovery Harbor, this sleepy New England settlement bears strong roots in the fishing business. Though technology may have sped the world up, here, time still passes by slowly, at its own leisurely pace. Take a tour of the coast or explore the local cannery. Braver guests may want to enter the historical logging factory. Though it has since been abandoned, some say it works as though the old timber logging days were only yesterday…

Mysterious Island
Accessible from La Mediterranea, Discovery Harbor, and Oasis Quay, this ominous land is based upon the writings of Jules Verne, the father of science fiction. An aura of wonder hangs over this quiet zone, occasionally punctuated by the fiery eruptions of the nearby volcano. Those who dare board the two attractions here will find themselves taken to the very depths of both the sea and the earth, where danger and adventure lie behind every turn.

Discovery Harbor
Accessible from Mysterious Island and Atlantis Cove, this harbor looks brightly toward the future, offering many educational opportunities and thrills to those who find them. Challenge the very forces of nature or simply observe it in action. Either way, excitement is sure to behold.

Puerto Tropicál
Accessible from Oasis Quay and Atlantis Cove, this is a land of hot, sizzling excitement. Everyday is a party, and the fun and motion never ends. Set sail with Sinbad for the adventure of a lifetime, or have fun exploring an old Spanish fort. It’s a tropical paradise.

Atlantis Cove
Accessible from Discovery Harbor, Puerto Tropicál, and Oasis Quay, this is the ancient, mythological island brought back to the surface. Many mysteries lie hidden within this wondrous place, and clues to its legendary demise are scattered throughout the area. High thrills also await those curious enough to find them, but who will truly uncover the answers to the most famous island in storied history?

Oasis Quay
Accessible from Atlantis Cove, Puerto Tropical, and Mysterious Island, this is a cheery and peaceful land devoted to relaxation. Beauty abounds in the lush landscaping and rich gardens that surround this land. Truly, it is a place where time seems to stop entirely… a perfect day, everyday.

To allow future guests an idea of how the park will be organized, the Imagineers have released a basic bubble diagram of the park layout.



Guests will enter the park into La Mediterranea, as is the case in Tokyo DisneySEA as well. In front lies the massive Mysterious Island. The New England Waterfront and Discovery Harbor are also familiar lands with new names. New areas, however, will include Atlantis Cove, Puerto Tropical, and Oasis Quay. In addition, the Augusta Bay Hotel will be located to the east of the entry, nestled in the southeast corner of the park.


Early concept sketches have been released. These two drawings show the imagined settings of La Mediterranea and Discovery Harbor, respectively.



Publicity for this new park will be decidedly more quiet, at least on the internet front, than was the case a few years ago when the Walt Disney Escape Resort was being billed. Officials are confident that what little is released will entice guests and have them eagerly awaiting opening day. As a result, only one photo of each area will be released during this campaign. The first photo, showing the entrance area and part of the Aquasphere that has become a DisneySEA symbol, will be unveiled within a few days. Other pictures will be presented every couple of weeks.

Security is tight around the construction area. Currently, the park is approximately half done, with most of the work centering around the attractions. No unauthorized visitors are allowed, and only special invited guests are privileged to view the work.


The Walt Disney Escape Resort has quickly become the most popular tourist destination in Spain, attracting over 12 million guests a year. DisneySEA Escape will only further cement this popularity, and its Disney quality will ensure that Disney remains a dominant force in Europe for many years to come.

Aside from all the "Too Much Disney" stuff - this sounds very good and promising...

1. I may sound stupid asking this but, why are both your parks in Spain?

2. Will you be using custom scenery?

Nice little "presentation" Corky. I'm looking forward to this. And I'm guessing you went the smart way and chose custom scenery, right? Screens, please...

1. Yes, this park will have custom scenery.

2. Technically, this park is part of the WDE Resort, as a new addition. It's supposed to come after WDE opens, hence the date that's far in the future. The problem is that DSS is actually more complete than WDE! Hence, I have to pretend that WDE already opened when advertising this (for "realism"). Basically, expect this park to be released before WDE comes out (it'll be weird, but whatever, I've actually worked pretty fast on the park; it's only two months old).

3. Hint. Hint. I know I'm being arrogant, but THIS is how you advertise w/o screens. So don't pull that "Oh Corky can get away with it but I can't. NE sucks!" crap.
