I'm new here, but I have a tatoo, actually I have 2. Both of mine are on my lower legs...one each around the ankle. One is a very large butterfly, I chose this pic from the net, I have to make it very large to cover a HORRIBLE tatoo that I got when I was younger! I mean it was bad...the lines were thick...it was not pretty. and the other is a Japanese kanja (symbol) (excuse the spelling), again I got it from the net. I wanted the tatoo to say something special, but not be obvious as to what it said. So I found a symbol for what I wanted to say. Then I took it to the artist and gave the pic to him with the basic colors I wanted to use and it is really cool.I'm 30 yrs. My x has 3 and he's 44 and didn't even get his first one till about 3 years ago. If you want one get one, but don't pick something off the wall or out of a book! Get your own drawing, or find a pic on the net, but where ever you find the pic...make sure it is different...orgional....ya know....everyone has a wolf head, so find one that is special...different.. Also, make sure it is "art" not a "tatoo". There is a difference!!!!! My x took a comic book character that was on a trading card to the tatoo shop and the "artist" did an amazing job. I would show some pics, but I don't know how to post pics here. The most important thing about getting one, I think, is to choose a good artist. Talk to people that have them in your area and find out where they got theirs...if they had any complaints about the whole experience...take your time and go to a few shops...look at their work, not just the books, usually the artists have books with pics of tatoos that they have put on, I know mine took a pic of each of mine and my x's to put in his book. Yes, it hurts...I've been back several times for touch up.....which reminds me Make sure the artist agrees to touch up for NO CHARGE, most do, because when healed you'll find that it will need a little touch up.....anyway, everytime I go back I say..."I'm not doing this again" or "Why do people subject themselves to such torture?"....LOL But I go back again, so the pain is bearable. It does matter where it is as to how bad it hurts....tight skin directly over bones...like ankle or the front of the calf.....that is the worst...and one last thing, put it where it can be covered! My father and ex both put one under their watch face/band...which does hurt a lot, but is a great idea...it can be seen when they want it to, and can be covered for special occasions..weddings or for like when you are old...and think about having to explain to your children or grandchildren...(I saw an older woman with a bunch of her grandkids shopping one day and she had a pot leaf on her hand!)...ya know stuff that right now you don't care too much about right now, but will care about some day....OOPS ok one more thing...try to stay from black...2 reasons #1 they cannot cover black with some other color...incase you might need it covered...like I did, thank goodness it was purple.....and #2 it tends to fade to an ugly green color over the years...lots of years...but still, you don't want it to be ugly 5 years down the road....ok I've said my peace.....Good luck!

    ^ Paragraphs please.

I've been thinking of getting one done on my ankle, just a simple 5cm circular design. I've been reading up and apparently it hurts most on areas just above the bone, i.e ankles, wrists. Surprisingly, tattoos on genitals don't hurt as much as would be expected. Person above pretty much said it all.

The whole idea of needles is horrid for me - I hate injections too :(

I think some tattoos look kinda funky, if done tastefully.

The whole idea of needles is horrid for me - I hate injections too :(

I feel like the only person on the planet who doesn't mind needles - and is not addicted to H. When I go to the doctor's and they draw blood, I actually watch them take my blood out. I guess I'm weird like that. What's weirder is that if I get a simple papercut I'm likely to whimper like a young child, but that's besides the point.

Don't forget to put her name on it.

I would say to never do that. Don't anyone ever put someone elses name on your body in any manner.

I'd say go for it. But I would get only what you want and nothing too large. If it's large in size, it might take several trips to the tattoo parlor to finish it. And yes, they will hurt because of the needles constantly piercing your skin to implant the dye.

Remember that some employers don't want to see a tattoo during an interview, so it shouldn't be visible when you're fully dressed.

It would take 4 trips for mine most likly due to tha variations in color mine would require, I asked a guy who has 12 Tattoo's down the street from me,he says about 4 trips tops and the place he recommends has payment options , and for the size I want its not that much. he said due to going so often and getting discounts he could get me a hefty portion of the price cut off.

I don't know what it is about needles I just hate seeing things that are long and pointy stabbed into or junted into the skin, I sometimes look away when say they show someone getting Trachea cut open for a trachiotomy tube insertion, or someone on TV getting stabbed or any of that. Like on Anaconda, the one guy has to get a pen casing put into his throat and the other guy doing it just rips a knife at his throat to vut it without cuation then the blood just seeps out gushing.

The needle for Dentistry is the one that bugs me the most, you feel the grinding of the tooth and then the jolt from the Nerve as it gets hit, and the annoying VREEEEEEE!!!!!!! sound it makes. I have heard a Tattoo needle they don't sound half as bad so I can deal with that.

I have 2 tattoos - the Gatecrasher lion on my left leg, a red and black tribal gecko on my right.
The most painful thing about gettin' 'em both done, was sitting at such a damn awkward angle for 30-40 minutes, and having my legs go numb.

Knowing the masses, I'd say most are too young to have them but I know a good chunk of you are of age to get them.

so what would be the ripe age? i thought you were like 12..
