Well wow, guess what, I hated his post. I even read much of it and I disagree with almost any point of his. That is, when he's actually having one since most of the time he's talking about himself and how sad it is that he can't do RCT and why this and why that and oh.... poooooooor CoasterEd....
"I've been waiting to post here." With that comment, he had already lost it for me.
Anyway, seems like the thread is over, like everyone is just going to go on like they did before... great. -

Ok, heres a newcomer's point of view...
As many know...I'm fairly new here at NE and just recently got involved with the RCT community. I browsed numerous RCT fan sites & forums before I picked the one's I wanted to join. I must say that NE stuck out for many reasons, mainly because of its members and layout. I spent hours looking through the spotlight & runner-up parks in amazment from the amount of talent NE parkmakers had. This was the first site I joined, but I admit that there is a "breaking-in" period here and I'll never forget my first post. I also learned that you need to be careful what you post here unless you are very good at taking criticism. Despite that, I'm here to stay...in just the last two months, I feel my RCT skills have greatly impoved, mainly due to NE. Of the numerous other RCT sites out there, NE has to be one of the top sites in terms of parkmaking-talent of its members, and #1 in terms of moderation & administration. I look up to all the established members here as RCT role models and would love to be a parkmaker someday....
PROPS to Iris, you've got a great site with great people!! -

Posix, I don't know why you hate me so much. You read like half of my post and then critisize me? A lot of the posts in here have suggested closing sub-forums and banning members and I don't think that will solve anything. That's like sticking a band-aid on a broken arm. It's just a quick fix that puts all the responsibility on someone else. I'm just encouraging people to take a little responsibility to change their attitude. I don't think this whole thing is as bad as we've made it sound really. It's only slightly worse than it was last year around this time. When more parks come out and competitions start up again,. there will be more meaningful participation. In the mean time, becoming a dictatorship and weeding out everyone who isn't devoted to RCT would be a big mistake in my opinion.
Once again you disagree with me and I disagree with you Posix. I don't want to make a big thing out of it. You're trying to get me pissed off for some reason, I don't know why. This discussion was never about me and isn't about me, I just had to explain how I've been feeling because I do feel a sense of responsibility for what happens here and I hope other people do too. I say "I've wanted to post here for awhile" because it's true alright? The one piece of wisdom I have learned is that as long as you stick to what you know (not what you think you know) you won't go wrong. So all I know is my point of view and that's what I have to share just like everyone else. Just calm down a bit and actually read what I said and maybe you might even agree with me on one or two points. Jeez. -

Ok, admittedly, the "let's not make it a big thing" argument makes sense.
It's true that you've been pissing me off alot lately but that's nothing which belongs in here.
I read over 3/4 of your post actually and the direction didn't change. It's not that the final conclusion is at the end of your posts or anything.
I'm very much scared by your attitude towards NE. To me it seems like you don't really care, like you belong to this "let's all just do nothing and wait for brighter days" group. Since I consider you as one of the imporant guys here who have contributed alot to the site, I'm a little disappointed. Possibly turns out in anger, possibly turns out in a bitch-fight with you. I don't know.
And about that first sentence of your first post in this thread... you should read that again before you quote it. -

What a pathetic little bitch fight you guys are having.
Come on Posix, we all know you are better than this!
Everyone contributes to the community here. You don't need to play RCT to come it, it's a forum, forums are for talking. People can do whatever they wish, as long as it is ok with the adminastrator.
My point is, you two, stop fighting, it is pointless to have two of IMO the best posters at NewElement bitch fighting. -

Well so far it's just point and counter-point mostly with only a little bit of nastiness. We seem to be disagreeing about a lot of things. I don't dislike you at all Posix, I just disagree with you about quite a few things. It's never my intention to piss you or anyone else off.And about that first sentence of your first post in this thread... you should read that again before you quote it.
I wasn't quoting, I was just paraphrasing. When a big issue like this comes up I feel obligated to say something because, like you said, I have been a big contributer to the site. I've read what other people posted but I didn't reply because I didn't know what to say, I didn't have an opinion yet. The little discussion about RCT being just about ideas now not parks got me a little angry because I think ideas are important. They're very important to what I do and you were saying that it's worthless. That's the impression I got from your post anyway and I felt like I had to respond to that. We've had this debate before and that's probably what you're referring to by saying I'm pissing you off a lot lately. I love what cBass is doing. I love what Micool and mantis are doing. I love the creativity I've seen in parks lately. That's what keeps RCT exciting for me.
I think you're right that people seem less interested in making traditional parks nowadays. There's this big contest on who can invent cool hacks instead of who can make the best park. That is disappointing to me too and that is part of what I meant when I said that attitudes are what need to change. If people weren't so interested in the "fame" of being the first to do this or that and actually built parks, this would be a much more enjoyable place. I want that too. In some ways I do agree with you, just not quite the way you worded it.
NE does need a change but it doesn't need to be something external. I don't think closing inactive accounts, banning members, cracking down on spam, and deleting the shitpile threads will really change anything. It would trim the fat I suppose but the reason this came up in the first place is because everyone seems to be quitting parks. There was a time when people made parks because they enjoyed making parks, not because they wanted to become a parkmaker (and then subsequently quit the game apparently). This isn't the attitude NE was founded on and it isn't the attitude that brought me here. NE Parkmaker is just a title. If you have released a park here, than you are an NE Parkmaker whether your member title says so or not. That's my big point (cause I know I do wander in and out of them a lot). When RCT is fun, good work follows. When RCT is a chore, everyone gets all grumpy and quits. Everyone just needs to give their ego a rest, and remember why this site exists in the first place. It's the parks, and the innovation, and the discussion, and the extra effort to make things look right that made NE what it is today. -

Related to what Ed was saying earlier about most of the topics in the AD not actually advertising parks: Can we have a separate forum for getting feedback on screens and leave the Advertising district for people who are advertising or releasing parks. When I first posted here I just wanted to find out what member's opinions about my work were as I had never released anything before. I wanted to get feedback on my work as I had no idea what people would think, I wasn't advertising the park at all. So could we please have separate forums. I don't know what other people think, but I don't like the way so many different types of topics are all posted of one forum.

I always thought we already had with "Ask The Experts" but no one seems to be using it. -

I have an idea for the Ad. District. It might take a little file coding to make it work, but what if we have a color coding system for posts? Posts with screenshots coud be Yellow, posts with downloads could be Green and posts with neither could be Red. It would be the mods' responsibility to look at the new posts and color code them. We could also start a subforum maybe for new parkmakers wanting advice and move all posts of that sort there. The Ad. District would then be only for parks in progress and finished parks to be advertised and all the other topics would be in one place. I suggest a new subforum instead of moving them to Ask the Experts because Ask the Experts is usually used for people with specific questions. A lot of times people just post screens and ask for comments. Well this way instead of having all the topics mixed together or making a parkmaker only forum (which would probably be pretty empty ) we would keep the Ad District only for parks that WILL be finished and then move everything else to a new forum. Maybe when parks are closer to completion they could be moved from the General Parkmaker Advice column to the Ad. District. With so many new members, it might be a good time to reorganize the Ad. District this way so it's less confusing.
Hmm, maybe only FINISHED screens stay in the Ad District. Screens with rides, landscaping, and buildings that is not just a work in progress with lots of empty space. -

I wouldn't go that far - we'd be in the 10-sub-forums-for-parks situation that the Station had. I think it should be encouraged that people don't advertise until they have quite a lot done. I think really that's all that should be done, because anything more is just 'red tape'. And I hate that. -

I like Ad District the way it is - everyone advertises in the same place, but their ads must have screens...and when the park is released, bingo, its pinned for a few days. That works for me. -

Rather than re-coding the boards we just need a really complicted system using the emoticons,
like a topic with a would represent a confused new member wanting general feedback on their work.
A would represent a clever way of advertised a park.
This would show that the topic didn't contain screenshots, indicated by the bored on his face.
And this would represent a rct2 park download for people with 56k modems, as indicates you will fall asleep waiting.
But I guess it is fine at the moment. it's just that there are enough interesting topics in just the one forum to warrent some kind of sub-forum or something, which no other rct site has.
