The SATURDAY REVIEW
I'm posting this because today was a great sports day for me. USC destroyed Washington State, 43-16. UCLA lost to Stanford, 21-14. Miami got blown away by Virginia Tech, 31-7. Georgia lost. The Lakers won (barely). But browsing the scoreboard in NBA, there were some interesting games.
Denver beat Sacramento handily, 109-88. Carmelo Anthony breaks out of his little "slump" in his third regular game of the season, getting the 23-6-5 that he was projected to average at the beginning of the season. I was skeptical at first, but Iris is right. Denver IS a much better team now. In three games, they have beaten the NBA Champs and one of the best teams in the Pacific Division, the Kings. As Ben Stein would say, wow.
Dallas beat Utah 127-102. I think this is the run-and-gun offense Iris and Fatha have been waiting for. Dallas recovers from its opening day loss to LA to demolish Utah in the second half. 127 a game is what they were supposed to average this season anyway (Iris would tell you 227, but he's crazy ).
And of course, the Lakers beat Phoenix. Barely.
Wow, five days into the NBA season and there are only THREE undefeated teams: New Orleans, Seattle, and Los Angeles. I don't think I've ever seen the undefeateds drop off this quickly, or maybe my memory's shot.
GO LAKERS!!! -

Denver, right. They beat a defending champion by name only, the Spurs are not on thier game yet. I watched them the other day and they are definately not all together yet. Denver is definately a better team then last year with the addition of Mello, Miller, and a healthy Camby. They will win more games this year over last years finish. I also, think they will make the playoffs as an 8 seed. Dallas, still not impressed. You NEED a center in the west to compete, they don't have one (i still don't count Bradley). They have a great offense, but time will tell how they handle the physical side of the game. The pasted a Utah team that has nothing going for it, good job. If you don't think a center makes a difference, go ask John Stockton. The Kings will be above average until Webber gets back, and then you will see what they can do. Unfortunatly we are getting used to playing half a season without starters. On the bright side, Bibby looks like he may finally break out of the slump he was in last year. Next point, Lakers... the two kids seem to have made up, i'm guessing Kobe may have gone to the "you better shut up or i'm going to kill you, don't forget i'm a fellon" card. Poor Karl and Gary have to put up with that crap! I would love to see them get rings, but it's not going to happen. That team is one Toe injury away from loseing it all. . I am just glad Basketball is back! I love this game! -

Yeah, but Denver's got Earl Boykens! How cool is that guy!
By the way, has anyone checked out the fantasy league lately? -

Your right, people like Earl are in "small" supply . People of his "stature" don't come around often. He would definately be on my "short" list of favorite players.
....alright that's enough. -

Do yourself a favor and stop making jokes. Your not good at it.
Anyway...my Rockets are doin good so far (They will surprise some people if they play Van Gundy's style), and my Mavs need to mesh. My Spurs are sucking balls right now, and they wont repeat. The Lakers? Im sorry, but if anyone thinks that they will win the title, they are crazy (Or a Laker fan). Itll either be Sacto or Dallas (Minnesota maybe, SA maybe if they get it together). Yup those are my picks. -

I have faith the Lakers won't win. I have faith that justice will prevail. I wouldn't mind the Mavs making it to the finals. They're easy to like. I want to see Houston succeed too. Yao Ming and Steve Francis are a good pair. Kinda like Shaq and Kobe a few years back. Did I just say that? Anyway, I'm of the opinion that the Spurs got worse not better but come playoff time they still have a shot if they play well. Phoenix had a couple of close losses, they've got a good team too. Obviously best-case scenario for me would be a Kings championship but I'm not going to making any claims to that effect. I'll just what and see how their season develops. I really expect Chris Webber to have his best season ever when he comes back. He's motivated now more than he ever has been. Again, that's a wait and see though. I haven't seen Minnesota play but I have seen the scores and they are very disappointing. 60 point games do not bode well for the future of the team, but who knows. It's only the first week, things change. -

If you think the Wolves will win the title, you're nuts. They have to get past the first round first. THEN we'll talk.
GO LAKERS! Undefeated so far. (of course it's only three games, but there are only three teams unbeaten) -

Well Lakers are a good time but you've to agree that Wolves got a pretty good team, I mean comeon (Sam Cassel,Latrell Sprewell,Kevin Garnett,Wally!) But most of them are all starts while Lakers have better all stars as Kobe,Shaq,Gary, and Karl. Even though they're both west I'd like to see those 2 in the finals. -

There's a little thing called the the Minnesota Curse. It says that the Wolves can't get past the first round no matter who they have. I just made up the name, but that's what the past seven seasons have shown us.
On a side note, we edged Milwaukee 113 to 107 tonight! I thought the Bucks were supposed to suck! *glares at Iris*
4-0 BABY!!! -

Pacers are going DOWN!!!!!!!!!!
That has nothing to do with anything, except they have the best record in the East. The same East that, as of last night, only had three teams above .500
Sad... since the last place Midwest team (Minnesota) had the same record as the first place Atlantic Team (I think it was Boston). -

Thus far, nobody in the West has been playing particularly well either. Not in the games I've seen anyway, which I admit are only a few. I was watching the Spurs and Mavs today and just shaking my head. These are not two championship teams. They couldn't possibly be more sloppy, both of them. The Kings have been real disappointing on the defensive end. I've only seen the Lakers play twice, against Dallas and against Detroit and both times they looked like they didn't know how to run their offense. So yeah, I've been very disappointed in the basketball games I've seen this year. I don't think anybody has anything to brag about. Except maybe Utah, Seattle, and Indiana. -

You're telling me. Have you seen some of the Eastern game scores this year? Just today, Pacers beat the Hornets 76-75. Yeah.
We've also seen games like 67-52 and jacked up stuff like that. Those are finals, not halftime scores either, LOL. -

I think you really have to take into account that the "top 5" teams in the West have new people on their rosters and it will take a while to get everyone on the same page. The Mavs have a few new shooters to try and figure out, the Lakers have two washed up hall of famers to work into (not to mention a rapist ). The Kings are playing without Chris Webber, although Brad Miller has been lighting up the stat lines as his replacement (trade of the summer?), Spurs are definatly working out their issues, and the Wolves have Spree and Cassel to add into their lineup. You have to give it time, but it won't take long. One of those teams will win the championship, i think it comes down to who's heatlthy and not in prison. -

Hmm, you're probably right. I haven't been fortunate enough to see Houston play so I can't judge how well they're playing. The boxscores don't really tell you how well the team is playing. I was impressed by Detroit too. Except that they kept throwing up three point shots when they didn't need to. They kept getting rebounds though so I guess it was working for them that day anyway. -

Houston is still figureing out who they are. A new coach, new uniforms, and a few of thier players are haveing leagal and health problems. I think you won't really see a run from them until the all-star break. -

Talking about a slaughter! Also without Shaq. Wow lets trade Shaq! You guys maynot agree with me have you noticed Lakers defense has been outstanding and their offense has been mindblowing!!! -

Woah there. You beat Memphis. I don't think it's time to start talking about trading the most dominant player in the league just yet.
