Guess someone beat me to brining this up and rubbing it in Iris' face. Thoes of us who realize the Hurricanes aren't as good as everyone thinks they are have been waiting for three long years to see a score this nice. And even better, now there is no doubting OU is the best team in the nation right now. After throttling OSU the only game that could pose any remote problem for OU would be the closer in Lubeck, but even thats a stretch.
I think now OU has all but clinched a spot in the Sugar Bowl, but the second slot could get very interesting. While USC is now number two in all the coaches polls the last BCS put FSU ahead of them, and the next one very well may do the same. Through week two FSU lead USC by 0.74 in the rankings. While USC will get the boost 3 to 2 in the polls, FSU gets an even larger boost from 5 to 3. So without taking changes in computer rankings into account (I know nothing about how thoes work), FSU is looking at about a 1.74 point lead on USC.
Right now its really only a race between these two for that second spot assuming OU wins out, but one loss from either team and its wide open again. -

Ultimately, though, FSU might fall back behind Miami, especially if they don't lose, since Miami did beat FSU. Besides, USC trashed a number 6 ranked team. FSU trashed Notre Dame, which is only regular now.Guess someone beat me to brining this up and rubbing it in Iris' face. Miami fell to number 8 in the polls, alot of people lost faith in the team. The loss to V Tech showed what alot of people thought was going to happen all along, Miami to just simply collapse. They should have lost a few others this year and I think thoes close calls along with this bashing they took takes them out of the race for the national championship unless there are some serious losses in the next few weeks.

Stop posting...Im not banned, i just cant post
Oh wait, Iris, stop him from posting.
As for FSU, I sure hope we can hold on to a 2 spot in the BCS (if possible)...doesn't everyone want to be there, so they can get beat down by OU?
Notre Dame does suck, but if Rix could consistently play like this, we'd have a shot at beating almost anyone, 'cos the defense is back. Sadly, that won't happen.
Rain sucks.

That win makes me think as if West Virginia was just an aberration...
But really, we did play terrible that game and truly deserved to get beat like we did. But VT just owned Miami with the big plays on defense. It shows that you just gotta pressure Brock Berlin... -

I dont think Tech beat Miami. Miami didnt show up, guys.
Of course, its rather funny when you think about it. Tech would now have an opt for the Sugar Bowl if they hadnt lost to West Virginia.
Just wait for next weeks game against Pittsburgh. VT will no doubt catch their trademark "Hokie-idis" again (i.e., get really cocky and choke.... see "West Virginia").
So Miami, what have we learned? Dont be a Hokie, or you will fall apart like they do every season. Any one wanna make bets on the Pittsburgh game?!?! -

I don't know about that. Sure, they didnt play their best game, but its not like Tech did nothing to win. They shut down the run early, then they put pressure on Berlin constantly to force him into mistakes. Sounds like a game plan to me.I dont think Tech beat Miami. Miami didnt show up, guys.

Don't make a big deal about who goes to the National Championship Game this year, we all know OU would kill anybody who went, im just hoping FSU goes so they can learn what real football is about.
(And no, im not saying UF plays real football, Zook should be smacked silly in the FSU UF game)
The only thing that will save us Florida fans from Zook is a loss to USC and Vanderbilt, but we can always hope... -

I love how plainly obvious this is getting to everyone, hell, the media is basically screaming it in every article. It makes me very happy.Don't make a big deal about who goes to the National Championship Game this year, we all know OU would kill anybody who went

Well yes, Tech did play wonderfully, I'm not denying that. They still didnt play the real Miami though.

And, I am not seeing where all this raving about Oklahoma is comming from. OU doesent play anyone. Crap, we have no idea how good they are. Even if they are for real, when they got to the national championship I dont think they would be anywhere near ready to face a real opponent. -

That comment shows a complete lack of knowledge about the team. First off, to say they dont play anyone is an extreme load of shit. Look at the recent BCS rankings and you will see an 8 by their strength of schedule, meaning at this point they have played the 8th hardest schedule in the nation. They beat a #11 Texas team 65-13, and #12 OSU team 52-9, plus a #22 ish Mizzou team comming off of a 42-24 victory over at the time undefeated Nebraska. They have put over 50 on the board for five games this year, four of thoes straight, and play in what is most likely the most talented conference in college football this year. OU has proven themselves time and time again this year as having one of the nation's best defenses combined with one of the nation's best offenses and lead by the nation's best coaching staff without question.
Which brings us to the OU won't be ready comment. First off, if you are familliar with the name Stoops that thought probably wouldn't have crossed your mind. No other coach is as capable as Stoops is in getting a team ready for a game. This is his fifth year at OU, and for the previous four seasons his team has gone to a bowl game and won it. One of thoes bowls happened to be a National Championship, and another a Rose Bowl slaughter. Stoops is the ballsiest coach in the game now, nobody else gambles as much and plays to win as Stoops does... and thats what it takes to win National Championships. If you don't believe that ask yourself how many other coaches would do a fake punt from their own 30 after going three and out, away, up by 7, with the momentum going the other way in the fourth quarter. Or we could pull the fake field goal in the Mizzou game last year (also away) to win it, the onside kick in Colorado, or maybe just for fun a reverse option pass in the OSU game last week. Stoops and staff have a knack for knowing when they can exploit something they see in the other team for a big play, and have done it consistantly over the years.
Granted, all this is incredibly biased comming from me, but a team doesnt get the rave reviews OU is pulling for not doing anything. Check out the Heisman lists, OU has the top quarterback at the moment in that regard in addition to the leading scoreing offense in the nation. Fan of the defensive side of the ball... OU has one of the best if not the best defensive yardage numbers and I believe scoring numbers too. If you want to say they have beaten nobody then just look at Texas and OSU... these are damn good football teams. Texas has one of the best offenses in the nation, yet put up only 13 against OU. OSU has three heisman candidates on its offense (QB Josh Fields, RB Tatum Bell, and WR Rashaun Woods) but scored no offensive touchdowns... they had the ball on the one with first down and couldn't put it in against OU's defense. I think Woods had something in the neighborhood of 9 yards in that game also.
Then we look at the Miami team you seem to favor. They also have played three ranked opponents, a #18 Florida they had to come back from a 23 point defecit to win and a #5 FSU game where FSU, to use the same excuse Miami gets to pull, didn't show up... because its so true. The funny thing about the third ranked team they played is they lost... to a team ranked the smae as Texas at the time OU played them. OU seemed to handle #11 a little more handily than Miami though. Then going into the unrankeds we see a should have lost game against West Virginia. The reason you say "the real Miami" didn't show up is because they weren't playing a bad school or one in adverse conditions. I'm sorry, but if their real team doesnt show up against a team who the previous week had been number 3 in the nation and your primary contender for the national championship you have no buisness playing in a Bowl. That is a game that you prepare for extensivly, and there are no excuses for lossing the big ones. Lose a small game and you can say the team looked past it, but there is no looking past a top 15 team. -

Um, okay, perhaps I dont know much about the team. I still know they havent played a top ten team though, which is what they will be playing in the championship. OU may be a good team, but they are NOT the only good team out there. To say they will beat anyone they play is just complete madness IMO.
Also, about OSU, they didnt quite turn out as good as people thought they were, did they? I didnt see them on the latest BCS poll, although I could have missed them. So, they have played a #11 and a #22. Not incredibly hard, if they really are as good as many people assume. A #8 strength of schedule could easily be considered your weak point if you are #1 in the nation. -

I don't know much about college football, except 'my' college is pretty good. Texas Tech? Yea, we had the number one ranked offensive and the last ranked defense.
Oh well, our QB is cold. Maybe Heisman runner. We'll see. -

I'm sure everyone knows about that fake field goal Miami tried to pull, right? Well I have just heard that the man receiving the ball was an inelegible receiver, yet the refs never called it...
Hmm... -

I was wrong actually, OU's strength of schedule is #6 now. For a look at how good that is, there is only one team with a tougher strength of schedule ranked in the top 25... and that would be Florida at #17 with a 5 SOS. If you want the top five, OU has a 6, USC a 13, FSU a 38, Miami a 18, and Ohio State a 20. Oklahoma State is number 19 in the most recent BCS, and Texas has worked its way up to 12.
And saying they beat number 11 and number 12 in the nation is putting it lightly. I wouldn't call 65-13 and 52-9 just winning, thats a blow out. These were beyond convincing wins, they made damn good teams look like Baylor. OU has been tested this year, playing a schedule more difficult than any of the other top ranked teams and never trailing all year. As you can guess, seeing as every other team has a loss (excluding TCU which has no shot at a BCS bowl for the msot part) you can't exactly say the same about them.
Because of the way OU has performed this year and because of the coaching staff that is there I think it is safe to say that OU can beat any team in the country right now. Now, is that the same thing as saying they cannot lose a game, no. There have been enough fluke games this year providing huge upsets and giving us the national championship picture we have now... but it is clear that at the moment OU is playing the best college football in the nation. Going back to strength of schedule, if you play the 6th hardest in the nation and have five games of 50 plus point, two of which against teams in the top fifteen thats not what I would call a weak point.
As for Texas Tech, they have had a pretty good season and started off with a great passing offense, but have trailed off in recent weeks following big losses to Mizzou and Oklahoma State. Symons (the QB), fell from a Heisman forerunner to a longshot in ESPN's Heisman polls. The game against Tech is OU's season closer, and because its away its the only game I really feel could be dangerous. Heres to hoping its not. -

The way I see it, each team has had a letdown game--except OU. USC lost to Cal somehow. Va Tech got clobbered by some Mountaineers. Miami got clobbered by Va Tech, which was clearly motivated and wanted to prove that their one loss was a fluke.
Miami, though, has long been treading thin ice. Barely beating West Virginia doesn't cut it. Clearly, though, they showed their weaknesses in the Va Tech game.
USC and OU are playing the best football of any team in the country right now, IMO, and the scary thing is that USC wasn't even supposed to get this good. Most of our players are freshmen and sophomores! Imagine what can come in the next few years. Pete Carroll rules.
Here's to New Years in New Orleans! -

You know, the RAIN let down, and we were screwed.
Here's to being #3, on the outside, looking in.
