Part of pitching is establishing the inside corner. You have to do that so that you can punch them out going outside (unless you're facing Pudge, where in that case, DON'T GO OUTSIDE!).
Of course, you never throw UP and in, but whatever. Mistakes happen. And for Pedro, I guess old habits die hard. -

I couldn't agree more.My opinion is that all this crying about throwing inside is ruining baseball. These big monsters on steroids crowd the plate and look for something away they can crush and more pitchers should ding someone now and then and back them off a little. It's part of the game and should stay there. Just don't throw at someone's head.
Yankees v. Red Sox are putting on one of the best ALCS that I can remember to date. Game 7 is inevitable.
We will see that Evil Empire vs. the Red (chicken shit boys who throw 72 year old men and probably even ladies to the ground) Sox in game 7.

Now there is an intelligent remark. Throwing down a 72 year old man, giving him a concussion, that would show some real balls and toughness. Way to go Fatha.
Pedro should be checked out for mental retardation, and actually anyone else who thinks like him should also be checked out. How can a sane person agree with that?
Expert writers and the Boston media agree that he went way too far. I am not saying what Zim did was right but at least he apologized.
PEDRO IS A BITCH, plain and simple.
BTW Game 4 is starting no....Go Yanks
Whats Pedro gonna do?
Let Zimmers fat ass run him over? Thats a lot of baggage commin at you with Zimmer, Pedro wants to stay alive man. 72 year-old or 20 year-old, if someone charges at you, you have the right to knock them the fuck out.
Shit, if Shamu runs at me, ill throw him down and let him belly flop. -

Hello.
I am a Yankees fan and I totally agree with what Pedro did to Don Zimmer.
I wouldn't stand there and let some guy charge at me and possibly run me over, no matter how old or young he is.

I don't think Pedro would be half the pitcher he is if he didn't ding someone now and then. As far as I know he's never hit someone in the head, he just likes them to think he will (smart mindplay if you ask me). Some of the great pitchers of all time played the same game, but back then it was considered part of the game (can you say Drysdale or Gibson). With the way players crowd the plate these days I'm surprised more pitchers don't try to get it back. I've seen so many of these large power hitters hit by pitches that I'm sure are over the plate or just a little inside it's crazy, there's no way a pitcher should allow a player to get that close to the plate on him. You can tell the players that really like to crowd the plate cuz they wear those big elbow guards. MLB should make them illegal equipment as far as I'm concerned. These guys wouldn't be near so brave without them. As a pitcher if you throw inside at the belt and the hitters just throw out these elbow guards and take their base not worrying about digging in the next time, so where are you supposed to pitch them to back them off...up and in seems the only way they're gonna take notice. I'm not saying go head hunting, but as a pitcher you have to get these guys thinking about it somehow. -

Whoa....Toon's becoming the fill-in for Coaster Ed when it comes to baseball!
I concur with the philosophizing, and Mick, while I agree with you that this is as great a series as we've seen in a while, try to come up something a bit stronger than the whole Zimmer/headhunting thing. The "ladies to the ground" comment was weak, and I'd almost expect more from the Yankee crowd.
Has the whole Wakefield thing stumped you too?
Go Sox!

The thing about Wakefield is that he's a knuckleballer and therefore as unpredictable as Bigfoot. Hell, he can't predict his own pitches...if anyone listened to his after-game interview...
So it's not like you can guess what his record against any one team will be at any time. Knuckleballs, when they're working, are almost unhittable. (I used to throw one in Pony League. Mistake. )
So let's not argue about how the Yankees do against Wakefield! It's pointless. Besides, some pitchers can really step it up in the postseason. I remember 1998 well, where Sterling Hitchcock won like 4 games for the Padres and got the MVP of the Division Series. And some pitchers just can't handle the postseason. (i.e. Randy Johnson. Has that guy won a postseason game in the last 10 years?? )
Sox in 7

But Micool, since Mick made the smart-ass comment about the Yankees hitting the knuckleball all over the place...Kai and myself had to jump to Wake's defense.
Which was unnessecary now, because Wake shut down the Yanks TWICE this series. And that speaks for itself. -

It is all in good fun fellas.
A bodyslam to Shamu would be something I would like to see. LOL -

In spreading my cheer to the rest of you boys, I would like to add that the Yankees won game 5 by a final of 4 to 2.
Series now shifts back to NY for game 6.
Kai, my good friend be sure to update your sig accordingly.
Here is some good news for you Bo Sox fans though; Nomar finally got ride of his NOMORE streak of playoff games without an RBI. Yeah.
In the immmortal words of Jim Rome...GOOD NITE NOW -

I am a pitcher for my highschool team...and I love the inside part of the plate...you can't take away inside pitches and have the same game...and with the armor these guys are wearing now, arm and leg, that is what is happening....Bonds for example, he is one of the greats of the game, but still...he stands right on the plate forcing the pitcher to throw away, and then its easier to get those HRs...if the pitcher does come in, he just turns his arm and lets it hit the armor, takes his base, no pain, back to do the same thing the next AB...pitchers have to have some intimidation...
As I said before, I love throwing inside...one game sophomore year, I hit 3 consecutive batters ...lol...all same location, low and in...my favorite situation is when they square to bunt...lol...then you can mess with them all you want...of course its gotta be in the strike-zone...but I try to get it up and in in that situation...little chin music never hurt anyone -

Well it is game 6 today 4:18 start time.
Curious as to who you guys think the Red Sox should go with in game 6?
I think you bring in Pedro on short rest, and if the worst happens for me game 7 I would start Wakefield. I think that would give the Red sox the best chance of winning, but let's face it the Evil Empire is too much, and the curse must live on......... -

Wow. Thats all i can say about yesterday's Cubs Marlins game. 8 fucking runs in one inning! 5 outs to go and the Cubs screw up. I want the Cubs to win and all, but if they can play that badly all because of one disruptive fan, they deserved that terrible inning.
BTW i heard that the fan that messed up that play had to be escorted out of the stadium by police with his head covered because he was getting death threats from Cubs fans. Sucks to be him!! -
Toon Offline
It's easy to blame the fan, but it's the Cubs fault. Gonzo's error and Prior's walk to Castillo after the fan incident were really the catalysts of the comeback. We'll see if the Cubs can shake it off or if were gonna have another Bill Buckner/Leon Durham type meltdown. On a happier note, it's 4-1 for the Red Sox (hope I didn't jinx them, oh wait, they're already jinxed!)
oops I guess I did...Nomar's the goat!
