Holy Cow! THe Cubs win! The Cubs win!
Am I a cubs fan....no...I am a Yankees fan, thus eliminating the Braves on my top 10 favorite teams list. -

Okay, that Sox game was freaking AWESOME!!! Besides the fact I've never seen Fenway so loud, rambunctious, and drunk (which is saying something), the game was amazing, and we won!!! Euphoria rings abound. A drunk guy I don't know hugged me. It was that sweet.

This will be the 100th World Series.
If there's a higher power, it'll be Red Sox vs Cubs. OR, Cubs will upset the Yankees in 7 games. -

Ha! Right when I push reply, Tejada comes up... and they mention how it could be his last at bat as an A, which is the reason why I'm posting this...
Kai, I hate the BoSox, but I want the RedSox to win so Tejada gets tired of losing in the first round, further making the chances of letting him come to mah team, the Angels, since Moreno (the owner) has expressed interest in getting him this offseason (as well as some other highly notable Free-Agents).
So yeah, go ::cringes:: RedSox.
Oh yeah, and Go Marlins! They're my second fav NL team behind the Braves (have been since they started, so none of this bandwagen shit). -

Bah, you Boston fans think you have it tough. Being an A's fan is painful in the postseason. -

I actually feel sorry for the A's losing 9 straight series clinching games, but how could you compare that to the Sox. Buckner's magic moment may be the biggest choke in baseball history.
Cubs vs. Sox...the dream's still alive! -

Boston: Heart break since 1918
Ed, it doesn't even compare. Sure, the Sox had Fix. They also had Buckner, as Toon pointed out.
Revised Playoff Predictions
ALCS
Yankees defeat the Red Sox in 6 games
You might hope, but the Yanks are just stronger overall, and the Red Sox should be tired after scrapping with the A's. Plus, the Yanks' pitching is better overall, and they want another title.
NLCS
Cubs defeat the Marlins in 6 games
This is the Cubs year. The Series will follow Baker, apparently, and not Bonds. Pitching will be the key to this series, but the Cubs young guns will prevail against Florida, whose Cinderella magic will be momentous but not enough.
World Series
Cubs defeat the Yankees in 7 games
In dramatic fashion, the Cubs will come back after being down 2-0 and 3-2 to win it in game 7, breaking a 95 year drought and making the 100th World Series an unforgettable one
And I admitt that the above predictions were made with a little faith in a higher power (in my case, God). -

Yeah, yeah everyone's got their baseball history. All I'm saying is that for a fan baseball memory only practically goes back about 4 or 5 years anyway, beyond that you're stretching. The fact that the A's lost the World Series in '88 and won it in '89 for example doesn't matter now. It was a completely different team in a completely different era and while I do remember those games, the joy of them winning then does not relieve the sadness of them losing now. And last year. And the year before that... And honestly, does baseball history really have any meaning before the first game you watched anyway? Does it metter to me what the A's did in the '70s? Not at all. All I'm saying is that baseball history is meaningless if you're really a fan. All that matters are the games that you've seen. My sadness over the A's is not less than Red Sox fans sadness would be if they lost. I think my frustrations with the Kings and the A's are just adding up. You wouldn't know about that Cork, the Angels won last year (at the expense of the Giants I might add) and the Lakers the 3 years before that. I'm glad that the A's and Kings have given me reason to believe, I'd just like to have that happy ending for a change. I know I'm not the only one but anyone who watched that series has got to understand my frustration right now. And you can bet anyone decent on the A's is going to be gone in a couple of years anyway. Probably to the Yankees. I can't watch sports if I don't have a team involved that I care about so baseball is over for me now until next Spring. -

Well, considering your 'history is meaningless' except for the games you've seen mentality, the recent history for the Red Sox is still worse, at least from my perspective. Being older than most of you, I remember the Buckner boot, as I was 9 going on 10 at the time. The agony of seeing Carter cross the plate, and then the game 7 loss still stings to this day. The names of Carter, Gooden, Strawberry, Dykstra, Wilson and Orosco remain on my black list.
Yet, that was one Series, 17 years ago. Since then, the A's have won a title in 3 chances, and the Red Sox can't seem to get past the Yankees (or even the Indians back in the mid 90s). There's no doubt that 0-9 in series clinchers is quite painful to deal with, but imagine how Braves fans are feeling. Twelve 90-100+ pennant years, yet only 1 title...and that's still better than the Red Sox and Cubs have dealt with (85 and 95 years without winning the whole thing).
Bottom line, it's only the division series. It's not the WS, or even the ALCS. Things could be worse.
You could be the early 90s Buffalo Bills, with the big 0-4 in consecutive Super Bowls.
Go Sox!

On my behalf, try moving to San Diego. Don't give me the frustration thing...you don't know frustration. Every year we are promised at least one competitor, at least, and every year it's the same. Chargers, Padres, Aztecs...it's all the same. We've been to three championships in 20 years. Combined. ...and one one game out of nine.I think my frustrations with the Kings and the A's are just adding up.
Yet I remain loyal because I am a fan. I remain a loyal fan to the Chargers even though they are 0-5. I remain loyal to the Padres even though they haven't broken .500 in 5 years. Because I am a fan. I refuse to be a bandwagoner.
Unless it involves hating the Yankees...
Nah, I've always hated the Yankees. -

Revised predictions it is...
Cubs vs. Marlins
This series should be really tight. The Marlins have a much better team than most people give them credit for I think. They are not a fluke wild card team and have great young pitching that can nearly match the Cubbies starters. However, I really feel that Wood, Zambrano, and Prior are going to take this for the Cubs. Still a hard fought series and the Cubs won't make it easy on their fans.
Cubs in 7 (extra innings game seven)
Red Sox vs. Yankees
As much as I want the Sox to win and it is definitely not impossible, I think the Yankees have this one. They have more playoff experience, more big game clutch performers, but most importantly, they have the better pitching staff (better starters, and a much better bullpen.) Boston staff is so depleted. Pedro can't throw more than 100 pitches without losing his stuff and having to use Lowe from the bullpen twice can't be good for his stamina. Still, the season series was 10-9 and coming back from 0-2 can be a big emotional boost. Pedro and Lowe should each get 2 starts and the Sox have to win 3 of those games to have a chance. I'll keep my hopes relatively high.
Logical prediction - Yankees in 6
Emotional prediction - Sox in 6 (while I'm at it they might as well beat Roger Clemens at home in his last professional game) -

Predictions are silly...and useless...

GAME 3...WHAT A GAME!!!
Final: Yankees 4 Red Sox 3
Yankees lead best of 7, 2 games to 1.
I just want to say Pedro is a bum. Throwing at batters, gestering to throw at Jorge's head, and throwing a 72 year man to the ground. You RED SOX fans should be ashamed.
Boooooo
Go Yankees
