Blitz, where the hell did you ever here that crap about the electorial college. It wan't because they felt that it was too much work to educate everyone, it was because they feared democracy. If you look at the original Constitution you can how everything makes perfect sense. The constittution united thirteen nations, but those nations wanted to maintain some of there own power. So when the united the created three bodies. The decided that one half, of one would be elected by the masses. The rest (Senators, President) they left for them to choose. Nobody understands that we are not a democracy, and that until Woodrow Wilson and the USSR that the number one political enemy of the United States was democracy. Democracy is an evil that too many people in this world seek out as a friend. -

Democracy (not pure though) is the one true form of fair government. What else would you have us abide by? Some corrupt politician?
BTW: Thanks for proving my point about their lust for power. Your "version" is only one part of why it was instituted, but not the sole reason. The truth is that the states all AGREED because it protected their power to govern themselves, which was important back then.
But again, we have too far outgrown "state's rule", and a central government can actually work now.
I'm gonna have to start charging you for the history lessons. My rate is 9.95 per hour...
And if you aren't in it for the history lessons, then keep your opinions on democracy to yourself. My point earlier is that The power of the states is impeding democracy, and states do not count as minority. I will argue not further on whether or not you think democracy is a staple form of government. -

Democracy is in no way fair. It is the rule of the masses in which there are no rights, and people must abide by the will of the masses.
The reason the states power no longer sems important today is because of the 16th and 17th Ammendments to the Constitution. The 16th Ammendament took away any need for the federal government to rely on the states for income. Just because at this time the states have been pushed out of part of their representation is no reason to push them out further. The United States are still exactly what the name implies, united States. We cease to be a union of States when the decide to hand over the rule to the federal government. There was never any doubt that a central government would work, the fear was that it would overgrow like a weed and push out the states. The people of this country have allowed for the federal government to grow and it has brought to an age where the government involvment in our lives is almost endless. We now have laws that tells us what we can do to ourselves, or who we must hire, and so on, and so on. The federal government has grown, it has grown the way our founders had feared.
How do the states impend democracy if our nation is not one? You have fallen to the lies about our government which politicians anbd media have planted around us. -

ok... i see where you are going with this.
1) the states are just as much "government" as the federal "government" is. States make laws that we may not agree with just the same as federal.
2) I am no more distracted by lies than you are, simply claiming I am because we do not agree is absolutely conceited.
and oh yes...
3)Democracy is in no way fair. It is the rule of the masses in which there are no rights, and people must abide by the will of the masses.
... this is possibly the most hypocritical statement I have ever read. The REASON democracy is fair is BECAUSE it is the rule of the PEOPLE. You and I are a part of that governing body, therefore, we have a say. In any other form of government, you and I would have no say whatsoever. Whats better? Having the right to voice your opinion? ...Or not? -

With the current state of governemnt in this country we have double the government. For every department a state has, the federal government has one similar in function. If states ahd their deserved representation, theyw ould not allow so much of this extra government in which the state already has. This would rrapidly decrease the size of the federal government.
The rule of the people is great, but not in a form in which the mojority has the say all. I'm sure you have heard the saying, "If everybody jumped off a bridge, would you?" This clearly says that the majority is not always right. In democracy one would have to jump as it is what the majority has decreed. You are wrong in stating that no other form of government allows the people a say. There is one other, this is what the United States are. A republic allows for the people to govern themselves, but we have taken it a step further. We have a constitutional republic, we have written down that the representatives cannot take away our rights. A democracy cannot secure this for us as the majority's decision is the one that must be followed. We have ste a system inw hich we all have a say, but do not have to worry about being eliminated by the masses. The first president to call the United States a democracy was Woodrow Wilson, he did this so that he could bring the United States into World War I. -

1) we could easily say that if state's rule was abolished, that would also cut down on the amount of government.
2) I hate repeating myself...
The US has something called "majority rule, minority rights", which is what you JUST explained. Are you even reading my posts? I'M the one who said that in the first place.
And, incase you were not aware, states are not needed for this to be a part of our government, because the states are not representive of a minority, I already explained this.
If you need more info on that, look it up. I'm tired of doing your homework for you. -

A state is like an individual. If we get rid of the states we only help to detsroy the individual. This is why we need the states. It all has to do with being individual. I have done my homework, and if you ahve you would know what type of people support the destruction opf the individual. People like Vladimir Lenin, Nikita Khrushchev, Benito Mussolini, and Adolf Hitler.
