On another note, sadly, i got kinda happy. I wanted it to be a terrorist attack. I just hate Bush. He needs to be proven wrong. He's gone to far with this. Its actually sad  that im thinking that. But what can i say, i hated bush since ever since he cheated in the election. :@

That's a little sick. Bush did not cheat the election.

Pathetic!  All i have to say is New York is now up there with France as far as i'm concerned.  No electricity, heat... bunch of wusses if you ask me. wish they could throw in an Earthquake for good measure.  Sorry if i sound jaded, i'm from California and we get this all the time!  I hope this will teach damn New Yorkers that living in a big city like that makes you vulnerable to this stuff.  I was watching the "breaking News" crap on CBS and the headlines were "people useing flashlights to walk in street."  ? what the  :0 .    And all this terrorist stuff is getting old, we aren't gaurded from everything and we never will be.  It has nothing to do with who's president!

P.S.- Bush didn't "steal" the election you fuck tard! Go look at who actually sued, oops, it was the Dems. Too bad they will lose again next year  .      but, i digress.

Agreed completely. New York is getting pathetic...

It's called the electoral college, fuck face. Make a comment about anyone "cheating" in an election again, and I'll come through the interweb and slap the fuck out of you. Christ, you'd think citizens of this country would at least know how elections work.

Or how the elections don't work.

And how do they not work? Is cause you think they aren't democratic, and democracy fails with the elctorial college?

I know that this is still of topic, and gives ammo to those I don't want to give ammo to, but when all of the votes in Florida were counted, Al Gore had the majority. Even by the strictist standards of throwing out questionable ballotts, he still had the majority, which means he would have won the electoral college if given the time.

With that said, I still think it's stupid to hate everything a person does because of how he got into office. Either you like his actions, or you don't, but it makes you look ignorant if you just have some blanket hate because he was "selected, not elected". Use some judgement, and don't just follow some political party.

    I agree with Radu. Finally.

If I read that correctly, yes. The electoral college places balance on votes, when each vote from each eligible American citizen should count equally...i.e. whoever gets the popular vote should win out in that election.

I seem to think that the president should be the absolute most eligible candidate, and what's the chance that the best man for the job, out of 250 million, would be a former president's son?

Who's to say that the best man for the job isn't really big on being an authoritive figure and instead works his life as a bartender?

Gore ran out of time. Florida law had a deadline for when hand recounts had to be done by. They were not finished in time, so they didn't count.

Why should the president of a union of states be chosen by the collective mass of people instead of the states that are to be represented? The states elect their president, and that's the way it should be.
  • Foozycoaster%s's Photo
Gore lost because the green party took 3% of the democratic votes. The recount would have probably been in Bush's favor.

Btw, the direct link to that article is down, but I do remember reading it a few years ago. You can find it reffered to here, which is a biased site, so you don't have to take it credibly if you don't want to.

Back on the topic, it finally clicked to me, today, why everybody seemed to be freaking out about a blackout in New York, when no other city seems to care. It has absolutely nothing to do with the citizens of New York being wusses. It has to do with those who don't live in NYC. The people who lived within the city had no problem, other than the typical inconvenice, but if you lived in New Jersey or any of the others suberbs and relied on the subways to get home, or had your car parked in a parking garage, you're screwed. All of the offices were closed, and so thousands of commuters and tourists, who no longer have a place to stay, were just roming the steets with nowhere to go. (Keep in mind, in New York, that's thousands of people) No light. No food. No contact with home, except for a few crowded pay phones. Image being out on a crowded street in New York City, in the dark. I don't know about you, but I would be a little uneasy. So, I think they did pretty good. Plus, the pictures of all the commuters/tourists sleeping on the steps of the post office is pretty cool.

So, I wouldn't put New York down on the level of the Frenchy Man, since the citizens did well, themselves.

Also, good job for Canada, blaming it on a lightning strike at the Niagra plant.... on a clear, sunny, day.
    :yup:

    1) so a president chosen on a technicality is the obviously superior choice?

    ...

and 2) you make me sick.

    Fuck the states.

    States are politics.
    States are corruption.
    States are freeloading.
    States are moneygrubbing.
    States are elitist.
    States are beaurocratic.
    States are righteous.
    States are perversion of power.

The last thing I want running my fucking country is a small group of people who only think about how good they look in their new fucking suit, and the safety of their fucking re-election!

You know the ORIGINAL use of the electoral college was for, huh?!
It was implemented because congress at that time decided that informing every last eligible voter "individually" was far too much work. So, they had one person from each area for the people to vote on, and that person has the "decision" to vote for the candidate he said he would vote for. Back then, you didn't vote directly for the president, you voted for the representative, because it was easier to have that one person make a trip to the capital to learn about the candidates than the entire fucking country to make the same trip.

Now-a-days, we can attain massive amounts of information through a multitude of mediums (aka: tv, internet, radio, etc.), and as such, everyone can be informed "individually" of each candidates propositions, programs, and future actions.

Tell me then... why is this archaic system still in use when we have clearly outgrown it?
Easy, people in power do not wish to give up power.
The politics of the state dictate their own local demographic, ignoring the wider demographic for their own selfish agendas.

The Electoral College is power in the hands of the state. Power it no longer deserves.
why should my vote count so much less then some some shmuch in south dakota? Or some prat in Rhode Island, simply because there are more people in my state?
To elect someone to universal rule, it is neccessary to first acquire universal approval
States can have state officials, and federal goverment can have theirs. But states should NOT have a say in federal power that is THIS grand. Ever.

You may say "but Blitz-sama! What about majority rules, minority rights?"
This is where you would be wrong.
States are not minority simply because of location or demographic.
This is where politics gets condescending.
You see, You don't NEED your STATES influence to reach beyond your STATE.
I can't even believe I'd need to say that, but I 'think' I might have, so I said it anyway.
States still have their abilities to make laws on the state level, any suggestion that they would need anymore than that is simply a boast of power hungry individuals.
Lust for power, again, is clearly the reason behind this circumstance.

I don't think I need to say anymore on the subject, good day.

Anyway, it's funny how this turned from a topic about the power outtage to who politics sucks and Democrats and Republicans hate each other, etc...

Anyway, they're looking into an Ohio power plant as the main trigger.

I told you Dragster used up too much energy!!!!
