Another possible idea/suggestion: keep the different architectural styles, but keep the color tones more similar. Use a general hue rather than different and opposing colors on the color wheel. That might unify the effect more (i.e. browns, tans, golds, or use the green colors close to each other, but NOT green and red).
Just a thought. -

That's generally a good idea but sometimes if there's enough color variety than the full spectrum of colors becomes the theme. I don't mean a raindow scheme, just that lots of different colors mixed together, if done right, can be as much of a theme as carefully controlled color schemes. In this particular case I can understand why ToonTowner might go with that concept of mixing colors and cultures into a Port of Entry area. It's something different than what I usually see in these types of entry areas so I think it's worth continuing. Well anyway, that's another point of view for you.Another possible idea/suggestion: keep the different architectural styles, but keep the color tones more similar. What program do you use to make all this scenery? This park kicks ass, especially the entrance. I really hope to see more soon. -

That last screen is sexy toon.
I actually disagree and think the green building with the dull red and marbe building looks good. Contrast is a good thing, especially when done well.

Browns, Tans, Golds...
Nice colors - but they are soooooooooo boring its not funny. Toons come along and done somthing great, with contrasting colors and you want to change that?
The Hack looks great, it looks real, and you don't notice it. Great Job Toon. -

I do.BTW.....who hates it when I use the abbrevation "bldg", I can't remember but someone does.
Probably wasn't me who you were talking about, but use of abbreviations like that just annoys me... -

Amazing work toon.
The park is really capturing IOA perfectly. The latest screens is wonderful and my fav out of them all. I like the colourful, multicultural mish-mash of architectural styles as thats what IOA's Port of Entry is about.
Great work and I persoannly can't wait for more -

I obviously missed this while I was away...
Right, I think this is really really really good. The mini arches on that building by the big arch are nice (I love the curved texture on the inside of them) and the tree hacking is pretty.
But, you know where you have thos golden steps going up to the building in between all those shrubs? Are you going to hack some brown path underneath the first steps, because you have a small bit of path leading from the main path, but it doesn't quite make the steps...there's this little bit of dirt in between.
Those criss-cross things going in 3D in the bottom left are cool.
Nice work, and go with the colours because it worked in MGM and it will work here. -

Thanks for the comments everyone. Not to worry Mantis, the colour is there to stay. I actually thought I was keeping it relatively subdued Wait til you guys see Suess Landing and Marvel Island! About that path and the stairs, I've already addressed that.
Thanks again. The park is still progressing, though I am presently working on a couple of custom scenery pieces to accent what I've already built. -

You know you keep on making new scenery...does that mean you have to sacrifice any rides you've built?
I seem to remember reading that every time you switch back to the scenario editor it deletes rides or something...
Anyway, this whole Suess thing sounds cool. We've now got this park, the IOA rec and PoC to keep us busy! -

To be honest Mantis, the park is still in the scenario editor and I'll leave it there for a while. I thought I'd build a small section of buildings in each area to get the idea of what kind of scenery I'll need, then take it into game mode. I can use the DIMport tool to add scenery should I need it further down the road. -

That is bound to be interesting. Are you using some of Cougers scenery for Marvel Island, or all yours. Either way it sounds great!Wait til you guys see Suess Landing and Marvel Island!

Well, I've been plugging away and have a pic to give an idea of what the POE will look like in a more finished state. As for the park, the Port is about 90% done. Just some tweaking of colour, landscaping, shrubs and fences, but all the buildings are now in place. Anyway, here is the area previously shown, but as I said, much more complete.
Marvel Island is next on deck. I have been doing some tests and have some definite ideas on how to pull it together now.Attached Images

Looks great. Its more unique than any PoE I've seen. It has the Zanzibar feel that the one in IOA has, but it is more relaxe, and less cluttered. I love all the custom scenery, especially the rounded arabian walls. The rest of the scenery, shrubs, bushes, etc., look good, but I think the tree selection looks a little too varied. Maybe try using trees that are centered around a center look more. Like dessert/tropical trees. -

Actually, I'm not too keen on that screen. The colors for one, are really odd. Turquoise with tan? Yelch!
Also, be careful of the types of trees you use for each building. The straw thatch building looks tropical, yet you have a birch tree (temperate climate) and tall evergreen (damp forest area) there instead of something tropical or floral.
Perhaps you're just showing us nothing so that we won't be spoiled, but that screen really does look amazing at all. Part of the problem might be that there's nothing else behind the buildings....
Furthermore, this Port of Entry seems a bit too open... I'm not sensing a feeling of coziness that I expect from a PoE. I expected more of a village, but this is a square, and there's not enough of a village to justify having a square. That's just my opinion. I guess I'd be better prepared to make more accurate accessments if I saw the whole thing (*hint hint*) and looked from there. -

Question. what is the DIMport tool, and where can i get it. Does it allow you to add sceanery without losing rides? -

The architecture in the last screen is amazing. I am really not crazy bout the large trees in the single square tiles though. Also, the tree selection is not as solid as I think it should be. Basically more of what Corky said, more tropical, less tundra and "urban forest".
Just my two cents. I am however drooling over the curved cathedral walls and the double window cathedral walls.
Cheers. -

The park in general is looking great from what screens have been shown now , real judgement will begin once Dueling Dragons and The Hulk, are shown which will be awsome.
