Some bands I like, and I think you may like too.
Threshold (Fantastic British Prog Metal)
Savatage (Melodic Heavy Metal style)
Rhapsody (Epic Power Metal)
Nightwish (Beautiful Gothic Metal, with the best lead singer ever!)
Star One (Hard to describe this band, but they are very progressive)
Symphony X (Pure Symphonic Power Metal)
Blind Guardian (Power, Melodic, Symphonic Metal...hard to catagorise)
Sonata Arctica (More technical than the others, with some fantastic ballads)
Kamelot (I guess these are Symphonic Power Metal, but a different style to Symphony X)
If you like these (and you should!!) I have plenty more bands to tempt you with. -

I recommend film scores, as always.
Anything Danny Elfman manufactured, is a sure winner.
Music is for retards. -

hehe, my old music teacher (an ignorant jackass) believes that nothing good comes out of commercial scores (music made for videogames and movies etc). Did i mention i hate that elitist prick?
Infact, the only thing he considers music is Queen, floyd, and van halen (he also has a hardon for john petrucci, but knocks on fucking yngwie! (what a narcistic piece of shit).
Anyway, if you want some "interesting" punk tunes, try "the pillows" (they feature in the ost of flcl). -

BareNaked LadiesI'm getting tired to listen to the same old-same old albums/downloaded music that I have. I want to find some interesting artists, but I don't want to waste my time searching all over cdnow.com finding little known artists that don't have anything on *gasp* Kazaa that I can download.
Right now, the bands I listen to are:
311
Dave Mathews Band
Dream Theater
Primus
Sister Hazel
Taproot
As you can tell, I'm in dire need of new material (though all of those bands are good...). I'm open to all genre's of music (cept maybe death metal and that kind of thing), and I just want to expand my (pathetic) CD collection (or MP3 folder). -

Get into Drum and Bass. Practically no one seems to know about it, and it's good to be in the underground. If you like bass, you'll get so much of it here. You can feel the seats rumble, even when the T-Bass is off and the Volume is low on a good 'woofer. If you turn it up, then there's plenty more where that came from.
Some good examples --
[*]Aphrodite -- Very funky sound, not that fast, but very good to dance to. Lots of vocal samples.
[*]Dieselboy -- Spans everything of Drum and Bass. Does just about anything. Jungle, DnB, anything.
[*]Technical Itch -- Jungle. I love Jungle. It's the best. "Caution" is a great song.
[*]Omni Trio -- DnB. Sweet stuff.
Just listen to Dieselboy on Launch, or go to www.acidplanet.com and get some nice stuff from there.
Just spreadin' the word.

Uh, right.
Back on topic, I'll give you more than just one band I enjoy.
Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks (indie, prog-rock?)
Interpol (post-punk)
Earlimart (indie rock)
And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead (art-rock, emo)
Idlewild (indie pop)
Gruvis Malt (like 311, you say, give these guys a shot)
and of course...
RADIOHEAD (experimental crazy shit)
I'm sorry, I had to flaunt my fanboy-ness. -

I've started to make a "to download" list (of course I might not find all of the stuff I'd want) from some of your suggestions and other places, Modern Drummer and freinds. Give me your takes on it, and keep suggesting, please, this is a big help.
My List:
Faraquet, Spiral Architect, OSI, Opeth (only the damnation album), Puya (only the fundamental album), Ill Nino, Vex Red, Unloco, TOOL, Threshold, Nightwish, Symphony X, Soulive, A Perfect Circle, Incubus (S.C.I.E.N.C.E.), Apex Theory, John Paul Jones, John Scofeild (Up All Night)
BTW, I looked at all of your suggestions I could (stupid McAfee), and listed all of the ones I liked.
Oh, and Blitz, Yokan was good and Japanese, but the drums were lacking. -

Yes (and no). I use cdnow.com to hear sound clips and get reveiws (unfortunately, they're usually written by helpless fan boys) of the bands you guys suggest, and judge from there.
Yes, that's the list that I want to download, unfortunately a lot of those bands are lesser known and many people don't have their material on Kazaa. I've downloaded 5 of the first 6 on that list (I download by album), no one seems to have Spiral Architect, like I aforementioned.
And btw, I didn't see yours or Innocent's post, so my list may grow.
