Head-2-Head-X / H2HX: Round Robin - R5 Wrap-up

Almost three months after the first H2HX matches, Round Robin has been completed and we know with certainty which teams will feature in the play-offs, and which teams have been eliminated fom the contest. Sitting at the top of the ranking are the Soda Jerks, who have been on an unbeaten streak ever since their R1 loss. In a clash of two slightly unfinished but pleasantly off-beat parks, they managed to beat the Hurricanes, who now have fallen into fifth place and out of contention for the championship.

The outcome of R5M1 presented the other two lowest ranking teams with a tremendous opportunity. The Dambusters and the Evergreen Gardeners went head to head, and unfortunately for the latter, their innovative flying orphanage was no match for the Dambusters' floating carnival, meaning the Dambusters could overtake the Hurricanes in the general standings.

The Jazzcats, now safe, faced the already qualified Lonely Hearts Club in R5M3. With only the order of the top 4 and with it the precise semi-final pairings 'at stake', both teams submitted impressive speed builds. Despite using their deadline extension, the Jazzcats lost the match. They did manage to stay just ahead of the Dambusters in third place, and in addition to that, they gained a parkmaker in Mr.Brightside711. The Lonely Hearts Club secured second place.

The semi-finals will kick off on August 4th, beginning with the Soda Jerks vs the Dambusters - a rematch of R3 in which the Soda Jerks prevailed. The second semi-final will be a rematch of R5: the Jazzcats versus the Lonely Hearts Club again. Considering both teams submitted a last minute speed build in R5, chances are that we will see two parks that were originally intended to face each other in Round Robin usage. The irony!

While the four abovementioned teams will slave away on their play-offs parks, let us honour the two teams that have been eliminated. The Hurricanes have been a consistent source of creative parkmaking throughout Round Robin under the experienced leadership of Kumba, and the Evergreen Gardeners have been exceptionally consistent, and consistently unlucky - despite everything a great effort by rookie captain RWE and his team mates. Both teams should be proud of their efforts!

Evergreen Gardeners - ALL of your parks were excellent. I hope no one from that team, captain or team members, is down on yourself in any way. Some of the absolute best parks of the season came from you guys. Sometimes you roll snake eyes.
