Roller coasters are boring. Monorails are where it's at

RoB, while certainly a great park, is somewhat overrated.

roller coaster tycoon 3 is a good game

Probably the hottest take so far.

Most of rct 2 trackitecture looks pretty awful.

The vanilla palette is the best palette.

Virtual floor is a great useful feature of openrct2.

If you view a park with gridlines on you're a psychopath.

    Purple trees are the shit.

Half diagonals look weird, slanted and I don't like it becoming a "must" in the NE meta.

H2H is too much about gimmicks and being innovative, too less about just building nice parks.

LL is a different game than RCT2 and those shouldn't be in one and the same contest because they are different and thus not comparable.

    Trackiture almost never looks good.

NE is too conservative when it comes to rollercoaster designing. "Manufacturer X would never do that"... until they do...

    Finally some truth

Is this the shit on everything topic now?

Although, i must agree with Fred D mostly, but in some cases trackitecture does look nice.

And i'll skip the purple trees.

Alright let's get some real hot takes in here.

A large percentage (but not all) of the European panel members vote lower on American realism/recreationalism simply because it's not their preferred genre or has been "done before," while American panel members tend to vote high on both quality American and European realism.

Let the games begin....... Round 1, Fight!

While I don’t think it’s malicious, I definitely agree with this. Kind of begs the question of subjective and objective voting.

The monorail almost always looks good. River rapids trackitecture is also really easy to make look good. Also, trackitecture breaks away from the voxel-look of the game.

There's no such thing as objective voting. 'Objective' wouldn't need a panel, it would just be. Therefore the panel and Kumba/Iris picking their favorite parks are both equally subjective.

Unironically it was way ahead of its time. Which is why it kinda sucked.

Sure, Subjectivity isn't the best word choice. I guess what I'm trying to say is there is some merit to being able to put aside your own preferences and voting based on what something is rather than what you'd like it to be.

I'd like to see the Europe/US difference being supported by numbers. I don't know if it's true, but I do know that generic theme parks tend to be set in the US, which is more relatable and interesting from people who are actually from the US. It may be lacking in qualities to appeal to a more broad audience. On the other hand... How many American realism parks have we actually had in recent times?

There are a handful parkmakers who are not deserving of their status.

  • Xtreme97%s's Photo
I'd also like to see any data that backs up this claim that Europeans vote lower on american realism. I just skimmed some of the more recent high profile releases that could be classed as such (Amusement Park, Ohio Stadium, Cook County Fair, Scream) and all seemed to have a pretty even split between Europeans and Americans at both ends of the panel spectrum.

Don't downplay yourself like that. (I do agree on a serious note though :p
