General Chat / Why does everyone hate RCT2?

it seems like so many people are still playing RCT1 instead of RCT2(although there has been many RCT2 parks lately). why dont you guys make RCT2 parks? they can be so much better. they have (almost) everything RCT1 has and more. i think the architecture in RCT1 looks terrible. its just raised land and it looks NOTHING like real buildings. and for custom coaster supports, coaster track for suuports looks terrible. you dont need to do that, they have real supports in RCT2. i just dont understand why people stick with the past and dont move on to the new stuff.

Its not the fact that people hate RCT. There are many reasons why people still play RCT instead of playing RCT2, and one of them is not because they diislike RCT2. Its because they are skilled at making RCT parks and they want to keep on making them. Some people just dont feel like buying RCT2 if they already have the original. IM not saying no one dislikes them, but it seems like your saying all original RCT park designers hate RCT2. That is totally no true.

Dont say everything in RCT sucks though, because if there was no RCT, then there wouldnt have been RCT2.

You've been using your trusted peanut-butter brand for years. A new brand comes out. You aren't sure if its any good or not. So you go back to the old, trusted brand that you like.

I think a lot of people are very bitter about the lack of anything new in RCT2. I mean, let's face it, it really was nothing more than a glorified expansion, and WW, well.......that is a whole different entity. At any rate, there are a lot of folks who have mastered the art of RCT1. I personally am glad to have the new scenery tools to play with, and thanks to Cougar and TT (and to a certain extent WW), I love the new architecture I am able to create. After all, Virginia Reel Roofs, and Wooden Wild Mouse Supports can only go so far......... There I've said it, I'll back up 50 paces now and wait for the flaming to commence :0

I refuse to play without TT's Walls. I had to go TT wall-less in MP and had the hardest time making anything worthwhile.

Rct one is more l33t than rct2.

    Heres why I hate RCT2

    - Its slow, laggy. Loading times.
    - Its more of a add-on than a new game.
    - No real sandbox mode, even though we were all crying out for one.
    - The "expansion pack" is nothing more than a simple cash in and doesn't address any of the things we wanted.
    - Buildings take ages to build.
    - The custom supports aren't that great.
    - Very few new flat rides.
    - Like ^ said, RCT1 is l33t3r
    - I find RCT1 more accessable than RCT2.

    Like they say in Counter-Strike - "Own3d"

    1. They CAN be far more detailed however...
    2. Better then pieces of track IMO... Heh.

    Ya...

Saying everyone hats rct2 is generalising a bit *cough*toon*cough*, even if i did love stratford fair. God that park rules... :)

:stupid: Like I have said for months, when a new Dell appears in my bedroom I might actually experiment.

This man knows what he's talking about! Smooth sucks.

    I don't like rct2 because:

    -loading time
    -errors
-can't see under path in underground mode
-different trains yet same coaster, but totally separate? wtf?
-don't like the look of it (a cartoony?)
    -lack of serious hacking

    and many others.

I do like the new architecture-machine, it's definitely added a lot of scope to the game. But, my enjoyment of it is grossly hampered by any number of tiny things.

    So, I play LL.

Ok, I have mixed feelings on the subject... and have gone back and forth between the games alot recently. Right now I like RCT2 more because the architecutal options are so much more in depth, and that really makes the park more interesting. Yes, buildings take ages to do but its so much fun experimenting with all the textures and peices to get the perfect look on the building. The variety is so much incredibly deeper than in RCT, giving RCT2 the definite advantage building wise.

However, hacking isn't as prominent in RCT2 right now, largely because its not needed as much. You no longer have to rely on coasters to get all of your sculptures and scenery, so this draw back is minor for me... I was never big on hacking rides. The one advanatage RCT does have though is a more realistic apperance overall. The way most people build in RCT2 it comes out cartoony and just doesnt look right. I dont think this is the game's fault though, because with all the new stuff toon has realeased I think if used right the cartoony look won't appear.

My problem with the complaints against RCT2 are when you say its just like an expansion pack. Well, if it is, then does it make it such a bad thing. It did add new things, and it totally changed the way you build and theme, so I would call that a worthy expansion. Just because it didnt totally redife the game in your mind (I think it did because of the change in buildings) doesnt mean its not an improvement over the old. So yes, it does have just a few more rides... but that means there are more rides, the number isnt important, its the fact that RCT2 does in fact contain more.

In the end, RCT is a little easier and more accessible, but RCT2 takes the cake for people who want to design more realistic and varied parks. The new options really let you release your creativity if you are willing.

    I love RCT2... I HATE RCT1...

I am making parks (I don't like to make Fantacy parks so I stick with complete REALISM.

I have 5 Ideas floating in my head right now for a few parks but I can't work on them till I get my new RCT2 disc tonight.

    Anywho...

RCT2 is diffrent from RCT. Some people don't like it some people do. Also, alot of stuff in RCT is not in RCT2. When you have to make custom scenery to be able to function in a game with the desired results, there's a problem.

The biggest reason i dislike RCT2 is because it's slow, VERY SLOW on my computer. Takes about 7-10mins to start, and about 3mins to load a park. Another thing i don't like is how it deals with custom scenary. There should be an option to get flush it off your computer every once and a while, instead you have to do it manually. Also, the removal of many features from the Orignal RCT really sucks, like the loss of land wall textures/colours and the mountain tool. Also, no window mode is very annoying.

If you like realistic parks, you generally will favor RCT2, if you like fantasy parks, you will generally favor RCT1.
