- From www.fifa.comParis, 26 June 2003 – Cameroon player Marc-Vivien Foé died after losing consciousness during the semi-final match in the FIFA Confederations Cup France 2003 between Cameroon and Colombia on Thursday 26 June in Lyon.
The 28-year-old Cameroon and Manchester City midfielder collapsed to the ground in the second half, around the 72nd minute, for no apparent reason.
The player was still alive when he was taken to the medical centre in Gerland stadium in Lyon, where he died. Doctors performed cardiac resuscitation for 45 minutes without success. “It is too early to determine the exact causes of his death,†announced FIFA delegation doctor Alfred Müller.
“FIFA and the whole football family are shattered by this unbelievable tragedy,†declared President Joseph S. Blatter, who heard the news at the same time as the France and Turkey teams and fans at the Stade de France. “On their behalf, I wish to convey our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones, to Cameroon football and his club, and express all our support at this painful time. Football has lost a remarkable player and a remarkable man.â€
President of the Organising Committee for the FIFA Confederations Cup Chuck Blazer declared he is “in a state of shockâ€. “I am stunned by the news of his death. Marc-Vivien Foé was one of the leading lights in the Cameroon side which has played brilliantly since the start of the competition. This evening my thoughts are with his family and loved ones.â€
I couldnt believe my eyes when I flicked through teletext and this came up, its guessed he died of a heart attack, but he was an amazingly fit individual, and he was only 28! He will be sorely missed at Manchester City (the team I support) and he will be near impossible to replace.
Foe was one of Cities most dedicated players last year, he scored invaluable goals, and proved to be a forbidable rock in our midfield. Its devastating he died, especially after such an amazing season, we were trying to sign him permenantly for 2.5 Million. Cameroon, Man City, and all of the footballing world have lost an amazingly dedicated, talented, and surprisingly down to earth player, and my thoughts are going out to his family and friends.
Rest in peace Marc-Vivien Foé, you were one of my faviorate players last season, and you will be dearly missed, by me, most of Manchester, and the whole footballing world. -

Who the fuck.
But seriously. Soccor is for fags. Sports don't get any more exciting and thouroughtly, pant-wettingly entertaining than baseball.

Truly, though. Who the fuck. -

Yeah, soccer does suck pretty hardcore. Or "Football," as it's called on the other side of the big lake. It still sucks that he died though, but shit happens. -

Anyone who says soccer sucks is obviously an ignorant American.
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and is far more interesting to watch than American footbal, in my opinion... -

Yeah. because watching a sport that averages less than 3 goals a game, total, and where there's little contact (more in the damn stands than on the field, fucking euros), is way better than watching a game that can averages 21+points a game, which means there isn't 70 or so minutes of boringness, correct? America ownz all, thank you.Anyone who says soccer sucks is obviously an ignorant American.

Well if you want to put it that way, I would say a fottball team scores in the vacinity of 2-4 times a game, but with 6-8 points per score. So technically it's the same as soccer.
Also, I would love to see some of you guys play soccer. It's fucking hard running back and forth that much, it takes a lot more stamina the football or any of that shit. -

I did play soccer from when I was like, 5 to 14, and have a couple championship trophies and medals. I got bored of it, winning every season, except for the one season that my brother was on the same team as mine (Damn Orange Pealers!) -

Did I specifically cite you? No. Anyways, you were wrong about the point thing.

soccer requires more physical skill, while football requires more physical ability.
neither is very entertaining to watch unless someone is getting hurt... -

I went to the MLS Cup last year and it took the bastards two hours of game time until they scored...Christ. I'll take American football any day, or baseball thanks. -

boring as hell, Soccer is fun to play, but boring to watch, but those announcers make it funny, they yell louder than any AMERCN football announcer. -

I find it discusting that a thread dedicated to the death of somebody world famous (well obviously not to stupid fucks who spend all day on their pc's) has been turned into an argument between what sport is better. I mean does it really matter, all that matters is somebody who was very good at what the did and was loved by every one has died. If a superstar basketball player suddenly died of a heart attack in the middle of the court, who I had never heared of, I would still have been supportive, and we wouldnt get all the fucked up comments like above. I wonder about people on this site, you all try to become well known by being the biggest pricks, why cant you just try to be well known by being supportive to the site, and posting (semi) mature comments.(atleast in sensitive cases like here) -

Of course not. I would never be sarcastic. That's just not like me.your kidding right?
BASEBALL R00LZ U!!
That requires too much effort, homez. And I am lazy and stupid. So I pose this question to the masses:I wonder about people on this site, you all try to become well known by being the biggest pricks, why cant you just try to be well known by being supportive to the site, and posting (semi) mature comments.(atleast in sensitive cases like here)
"Who gives a fat flying fuck?"
And no one answered my original question. Who is this Edgar Allen Foe fag?
Answers on a postcoard plz. -

For fuck sake, this is a topic about the death of a great player. Why go into detail on how "football/soccer sucks" blah blah.
I dont really care what anyone thinks, I love FOOTBALL (as it is known from the country of origin -england) as most other UK members do. Its the same as many US members love Baseball/NHL or NFL. We dont flame your national sports. FOOTBALL is probably one of the most played sports in the world (hence the fact it has a world cup, along with Rugby & Cricket, I dont see a baseball world cup?).
if you feel FOOTBALL sucks, then thats up to you, but most of you probably cant even explain the offside rule. FOOTBALL isnt about scoring tons of goals, its about commitment, stamina, defence, attack. The only time you see alot of goals is when a superb team meets a shit team, and there aint many shit teams around. Before you diss FOOTBALL, then why not go watch a saturday afternoon premiership game? The best league in the world? lets say over 500,000 fans and nearly half of the world agree with me. English football clubs have fans from Japan etc, just goes to show how big the sport is.
Anyway, back on topic, Foe was a great player, and didnt deserve to loose his life so early. Seems the final between France & Cameroon will go ahead though. -

Why has this turned into a topic about different sports ?
It was a topic about a good footballer who has just passed away.
I always thought many americans were ignorant but to find this many on the one site is a joke....
someone delete all the shit posts in this topic
back on topic..
Man city have retired the number 23 shirt as a sign of respect which was nice of the club..Also Marco scored the last goal at maine road so he'll always be in the clubs history. -

That's coming soon, man. It's in the works, it will happen...it won't matter to you Euros, just like football doesn't matter to we on the west side of the pond. Then, someone will die when a piece of cork becomes lodged in their heart, and you guys will do the same thing we've done.I dont see a baseball world cup?).
If you want, you can turn that Strom Thurmond topic into a "Congress v. Parliament" debate. -

I wouldnt degrade a topic on something that deals with death of a sportsman. Regardless of wether I like the sport or not. Then, someone will die when a piece of cork becomes lodged in their heart, and you guys will do the same thing we've done.
I dont think many people in this topic actually understand football anyway, yet they seem to think they know alot about it.
