historyfreak's screens genuinely have more content that a lot of "acceptable" screens on this site. its messy content, I think once or twice it's been pre-fab content, but its still a lot. i really don't see the difference between one of his screens and a screen thats like two buildings, 1/18 of a layout and some three-wide path. nobody wants to step up and give him real criticism and until you do you need to sit the fuck down.

 

some builders who are now legendary were once lil shits on this forum. that's how the internet works. deal with it.

 

I've also noticed it's typically also pretty new builders who put him down. Are y'all trying to distinguish yourselves from him? it's not working and it's unbecoming. cut it out.

I don't think this rule will work, how will you define when a screen is okay and when it is not? Also I think people should have the freedom to post whatever they want. Overall the majority of the screens are still high quality, and as long as people don't spam screens that are low content I don't really see the issue. Everyone used to be a noob at some point.

No. We're not taking anything off the site permanently unless it's stuff like porn, gore, spam or threats. Wish you didn't edit your post... Why did you do that?

It could be classed as spam though, a lot of people don't like the screenshots judging by the comments. I edited it because I wanted to delete the thread. I didn't think my post was particularly insulting to anyone or anything, and I think I put some good points forward, but I just couldn't be bothered with it.

It might be that nobody like the screens, but since I was never actually bothered with them, I don't really care. Don't really know why people are still complaining, we tried to help him, he doesn't listen so just ignore his stuff or don't.

Yeah, I get that, but you can't deny it detracts from screens that people have actually put time and effort into.

I have seen this mentioned a few times, could you actually define what real criticism is? Is 'not covering the map with trees and not having like 7 coasters in the same screen' valid criticism, which he has so far not been able to take on board.

Yeah, the screen may be filled, but it takes no skill or creativity whatsoever,. Literally anybody could post any of the screens he has posted and could do it in like 10/15 minutes. It takes time and effort to create buildings, yeah they might not be the best buildings, but at least they've tried, and most other people take criticism on board and improve.

I genuinely find it puzzling how some people can find these screens "more interesting" than the typical NE screen... (not talking to you in particular Dr Dude, there have been others posting similar things). With that said, I'm not in favor of a ban on this type of screens or the one who posts them, even though I've been quite critical of them myself a few times. 

Let people do what they please. Historyfreaks screens are boring but we shouldn't just bar him off from the community for no good reason. If you don't like his screens then just don't comment bullshit that keeps bumping his screens back to the top.

Maybe it's just me but when I post a screen and I get 4-6 comments tops and I see a shitty screen like that get plenty more than what it deserves I'm not gonna want to post my screens on the site. Granted I have been told my screens aren't "commentable" before so maybe that's it.

I don't find Historyfreak's screens interesting. It looks like he has fun building like that, so good for him. I just don't bother to comment on his screens, I look at it, think meh, and move on. Let him post what he wants, if you don't find it interesting then just ignore it. Who decides anyway what is good enough or not?! In that case, most of our members never got to the point were they are today. We were all n00bs some day.

His screens maybe ass to most but he sure gets alot of comments.

It's an unusual case because he seems unfazed by consistently low ratings and overwhelmingly negative feedback, so it can be irksome for the users who expect a certain level of quality to see someone post screenshots of very basic parks without any signs of improvement, but labeling it as "spam" would require specific rules in place based a system that revolves around subjectivity. The rating system already allows users to decide which screenshots meet this site's quality standards and which do not, and low-rated content shows future builders what low quality looks like, which is a much better system than simply deleting it.

 

He has as much right to showcase his parks as anybody else, and no matter how helpful your comment may be, he also has every right to ignore it. Feedback is important to those of us who want to improve our abilities, but nobody is required to listen to it. Many of the comments he's received wouldn't be helpful to any builder, but judging by his responses to the more in-depth ones, he doesn't seem interested in changing his building style. Once again, though he risks very low ratings by not doing so, there is no rule that states that he must change his style, nor should there be.

 

He has access to every screenshot and every park on NE. The best suggestion anyone can give him is to study high-rated NE content and work his way up. If at any point he wants to build something that would receive at least 50%, it's likely that he already knows that this is the best solution. However, for the time being, he seems perfectly content with uploading old screenshots of spaghettic* parks that he clearly enjoyed building, and if you don't like them, you can rate them as low as you so desire, or just ignore them.
