As a typical American, I too hated soccer like most people. But, when you get outside of the U.S., it is a bit more exciting because it is around you more. Football really isn't bad outside of America. It's actually exciting sitting in a pub, drinking a pint, and watching a game with the crazy soccer hooligans. -

I'm inclined to agree...
while he prolly made his first comment in jest, due to the nature of the comment, he really had no right to sling mud at pym...

Some people just can't pick up on sarcasm and they get so angry over typed words on the internet. Now that's sad. -

I find sports to be boring if
A. you don't care who wins
or
B. you have no morey on a team
Turtleman, you sound like my brother. Which is kinda scary.
I find people who watch sports generally also play them with very few exceptions, so I don't think it's the sports watchers that have fat asses. -

If you reduce anything to it's simplest elements it becomes ridiculous. Yes watching people toss a ball around is silly. Sports, like any other form of entertainment, is about drama. When you're team is winning that's exciting. When they're losing it's distressing. You may say it doesn't matter and in a way you'd be right, but for sports to be enjoyable you have to allow yourself to be affected by it. People who say they don't like sports are just looking in without really getting involved. There's nothing wrog with that. It's just a form of entertainment like music or movies and if it doesn't entertain you, then there's no reason to watch it. For the people who do find it entertaining, it's no more stupid than watching a movie or playing a video game or reading a book or listening to a CD. You may as well critisize those too, you'd get the same response.
Now playing sports is a different matter entirely. That's about competition and pushing yourself to exceed your own limits. Playing sports is basically an analogy for all of the positive traits we associate with warfare. It requires discipline and courage and sacrificing for the greater good and rising to meet a challenge. Football fields, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and basketball courts are battlefields only nobody has to get killed. War is a terrible aspect of human nature but it is human nature and ignoring it will not make it go away. Far better to "tear somebody apart" metaphorically in a sport than to tear them apart literally.
