Theme Park Discussion / North America 2017 Coasters

i don't know any of these acronyms :(

Good thing is, some SF parks got Giant Frisbees which are always excellent, re-ridable flats.  Bad thing is, this year's crop of coasters was unoriginal.  S&S 4Ds are solid and economical, but they're somewhat boring (haven't ridden one though so take what I say with a grain of salt).

There have been so few announcements for 2017 coasters so far, I think we're due for a bigger release soon.  Maybe something from Silver Dollar City?  Seaworld San Antonio or San Diego?

Silver Dollar city is a candidate, they've cleared a big chunk of land and haven't announced anything.

Seaworld San Diego announced some flats. Sea World San Antonio is definitely getting a coaster, probably like Jet Rescue at Seaworld Australia.

I've been hearing that Silverwood might get the first RMC T-Rex coaster.

  • Austin55%s's Photo

Now that would be interesting. The rest of the country would hate having it in such a remote location ha. It's nearby the factory to so I could see how proximity could play a part in that.

I didn't know what a T-Rex coaster is so did some googling. Now I have a good idea but I still don't understand what the benefits of it are over a coaster with separate rails? The middle bit is just 'filled in' so to speak. What new possibilities does it open up?

^I think it's mostly there for aesthetic appeal, but it seems to boast a potentially tighter turning radius and would probably be faster to install than traditional two rail track.

If its for aesthetic appeal they've failed horribly.

It's supposed to be able to cut down on support cost as it's more structurally sound.  I also assume it's cheaper to manufacture because it's made the same way as the I-Box and Topper Track where it's cut from large sheets of metal and then welded together.

^^so glad someone else has this opinion

RMC's are all hideous but damn are they good to be on.

The key benefit is making all the terrible park maps that just render coaster track as a weird ribbon more accurate.

SeaWorld Texas is officially announcing Jet Rescue Monday.

  • Austin55%s's Photo

Kings Dominion posted a video which said "Hurler's dead... For now" and then "2018" so yeh, it's getting RMC'd probably.

^Probably not. Cedar Fair has not rmced any coaster yet. And if they did, it would probably go to cedar point.

Given that they are almost definitely rmcing mean streak it wouldnt surprise me in the slightest
