RCT Discussion / OpenRCT: advantages and disadvantages

I tryed to open this one http://www.nedesigns.../3524/liseberg/ (given the size, i think the objects are included)? And I tryed to open the NE workbench 2013 and some other workbenches getting the same error everytime.

All parks on NE have their custom scenery objects exported, but some custom objects contain a bug which prevents them from exporting correctly. In order to load such parks in OpenRCT2, you can either download and install the missing object manually (like you had to do in vanilla), or select "Allow loading with incorrect checksums", which ignores the problem and loads the object anyway. This may or may not result in a broken object being written to your hard drive, so I would recommend the manual route unless you cannot locate a download for the object in question, at least until the feature is working more reliably.

OpenRCT2 is supposed to fix these damaged objects, so parks created with OpenRCT2 should not have this problem, but some still do - I need to get around to fixing that.

Janisozaur and the other developers helped me fix the problem. Had to do with missing vanilla objects from the trial version, bought the game and now it works flawless!

Yeah, I saw on the chat. Vanilla objects don't export with the park since everyone has them; I don't know if the demo version was intended to be able to open every park.

Still, you may encounter issues with unexporting objects at some point so it's worth mentioning. The other cause of a missing object error would be if the park isn't exported at all - this is usually evident since it will trigger a lot of missing object errors.

We have released a new version, 0.0.4: https://www.reddit.c...e_release_v004/

This also marks start of development of 0.0.5 with many new, exciting features.

Will there be some function in the game that warns you if a savegame becomes incompatible with the default game?
  • janisozaur%s's Photo
We have clearly flagged everything we know causing trouble for vanilla. If we discover anything else, we will also put warning in place.

Has the peep-AI been changed for OpenRCT2? Because they are getting stuck in places where in the vanilla game they normally wouldn't get stuck and it is incredibly annoying. I think this is for me personally the biggest fault with OpenRCT2.

Yes its awful, sorry guys, but its just bad.

I tried searching for this already, but how do you actually change the object selection in-game? I cannot find the option for it anywhere.

  • Liampie%s's Photo
Under options you have to enable debug tools. This will give you a new menu at the top of the screen which holds the scenery selection thing.

Played about 2hrs of multiplayer with Fisch yesterday. Few thoughts:

    1) Holy shit, it's multiplayer! Such an amazing feature to have and imagine it will become very useful and constantly used in future.

    2) Tad laggy even with just two players. Granted Australian internet is pretty garbage, but there was a noticeable delay between placing/deleting an object and it then registering in-game. The game is easily playable of course, but I'm not sure if this gets worse with more people.

    3) I can understand worries about griefing. Obviously shouldn't be a problem here, but it was a little shocking to just suddenly see the land change texture or be raised/lowered without any warning.

    3.1) Chat is great!

    4) Not sure how easy/difficult it is to set up a server, but Fisch was saying that it took some time to get working.

    5) Possibly I just missed it, but is there any way to show which version the respective servers are running on. Had some problems with "incorrect software version" because I was running development build instead of the latest stable version. I imagine it won't be a problem on full release though.

    6) Maybe only available to host, but how does saving in multiplayer work? Autosaves or?

Ok, so in my multiplayer park Tolsimir did a hack earlier today. Sadly every time a version with that hack is loaded the game now gets an error trapper right after loading. Can you look into the matter? I still have the file from before but that'd mean the hack is possible but can't be used because no one can load any save games with it. The hack makes ORCT crash when loading it. It's a bit annoying because it worked while playing. Only loading crashes the game.

If you want the developers to look at it, you'll probalby need to provide the problem save file, or steps to reproduce the issue, because otherwise nobody can figure out what the cause of the crash was. You may also want to report the issue here.

  • Tolsimir%s's Photo

To reproduce it, build a station of any kind of ride. set operating mode to freefall. open and close the ride so that the car is in the game. zero clearences. build another station through the original station so that the original station's data will be overwritten. demolish the second ride so that in the end only the car without any track remains. it worked in original RCT perfectly when I wanted to create theming with ride cars, it worked in ORCT but now the savegame is corrupted.

OK, I can reproduce the issue. There doesn't seem to be any need for zero clearance; deleting the station pieces in the tile inspector results in the same effect. The hack initially works but reloading the park crashes the game. I have submitted this issue to Github as well.

You can work around it by making the station pieces invisible instead of deleting them. I have been doing that for a while and not encountered issues with it.

The problem is that the tile inspector doesnt work in multiplayer atm
  • X7123M3-256%s's Photo

Oh, OK. I don't think this issue is specific to multiplayer though - I got the same result offline.

Anyone else having issues today? I used OpenRCT2 this morning to fill a rapids ride with water and it worked fine. A few minutes ago, I tried to load OpenRCT2 to do something else and this is what the main screen looked like, and remains the same after loading a park.

Just noticed speaking of the tile inspector that you can rotate items selected in the inspector. Finally no more messing with SoB to rotate huts!
