However, that does not mean that it permitable to disrespect a religion, regardless of viewpoint. I can answer a question if I wish to, ther were multiple questions about where does the Bible and sin come into play. I'll respond if I want to, you've got nothing to do with that Brain.
Blitz, you never made a point, and what you attempted was destroyed by your jaundiced statement.
Looks like the face on the bar room floor finally got up-/-/-> -

What's this then?:Blitz, you never made a point, and what you attempted was destroyed by your jaundiced statement.
He couldn't be more right.my point is that religion does not enter into this discussion. It is purely a social argument, not religious.
No one ever disrespected your religion Vert. You just have to understand that we won't let religion go into this discussion because it has nothing to do with it. That's the point you were searching for. -
Not so Great Brain Offline
I don't mean insult those who believe in Christianity. I'm just sick of people refering to what the bible says. I don't believe in what the bible says, so I won't follow it and obey it. And just because you don't believe that swearing is acceptable doesnt mean I'm not going to stop because it offends you. What if I was part of a religion that says you must swear and if you don't you're going to hell and you are a disgrace to the religion. It would offend me if you didn't swear. There's no solution to problems like this. Just ignore what offends you and make a point if you must. -
Vert Offline
Yes, but he has no point if he wants to call us Bible humpers. Where not trying to preach Brain, he just said that he has never heard the Bible mention anything about swaring and Andrew asked why is swaring a "sin." Religion wasn't thrown into the battle, there were just questions that were answered. Unless you see me preaching from thread to thread about my religion.
---------------------------------------------------
I wasn't telling people to follow anything, I just pointed out where it was and explained it. I can't and wont try to change they way which you speak your mind, but when someone discriminates, I will jump to the gun because I has experienced a variety of discrimination. I will not waste your time recalling my past, but they range from descrimination for having Columbian heritage to refusal of service at Knott's Berry Farm. I will not tolerate the slightest level. I can't make racism stop, but if it comes out, you will here from me. -

Man, you're worse then those tycoon hackers we ran into at RCTS back when it was alive. Nonetheless, happy birthday bottom. -

sorry for disrespecting your religion.
Though it still stands that this argument has no place for religion, saying this is not disrespecting your religion in anyway, its that the topic is "societal acceptance of swearing" not "does god permit swearing or not". The latter is not what we are discussing, because while religion has "influence" on society, they still remain two seperate entities. You must also remember that other religions might permit such things, this is also a reason religion does not enter into this "social" discussion. If you want to discuss theology, please do so in another topic. -

I'm on your side here (and always will be, babe), but to be fair, Vert's horrifically self-righteous argument was sparked by Andrew asking -my point is that religion does not enter into this discussion. It is purely a social argument, not religious.
"WHY is swearing a sin?"
But in a way, I do agree with Posix and company to a point.
Dredging through the truly dull, tedious, bullshit sludge which makes up most of the forii, it's hard not to agree that, yes, there is a problem here.
I believe, however, that the problem lies with the the arrogant, humourless, all-too-serious scumbuckets who are above us all.
I used to be one of them. Kirii and I both. Once upon a horrible time, we were seen as the "intelligent" guys over at Danimation.
I delighted myself in making overlong rants about pointless bullshit. Hell, I even used big words and 'posh' grammar.
Thank God those days are over.
You see, brothers and sisters, I have seen the light.
And it's more profane than a Kevin Smith movie.
Now I have nothing but resentment to all these faggots who act the way I used to. I have a message to these intellectually impotant scragbags:
GET A FUCKING SENSE OF HUMOUR.
No one gives a shit about your ridiculously long, meticulously spell-checked posts.
Really.
It's fucking boring to read.
Everyone skips and skims.
You see, a lot of people over here take themselves, the game, and this forum all too seriously. They are in a very real danger of believing that any of this shit actually matters.
It doesn't. It couldn't matter less.
Stop trying to sound so fucking intelligent all the fucking time. Please. For the love of God.
So the next time you open that hole in your ugly-ass face, remember this:
You have a duty to be entertaining.
We don't care about your opinions, but maybe you can raise a smile as you share them.
Or try, at least.
If there is no concievable chance of your post ever entertaining anyone, then, congratulations. You made a boring post. Hope you're proud of yourself. Fag.
Don't feel too bad. I do it all the time on Danimation. You see, over at Dnet, I am a mild-mannered, humourless little pseudointellectual prick.
What kills me is the fact that some people over there actually respect me for it. What a bunch of retards.
People are easily impressed. If you write something that's longer than a few sentances, they think you're the next Plato. They overlook the fact that you are, instead, a retard with too much time on his hands.
Look, I can choose to write posts which would make Coaster Ed proud. But I don't want to.
It's not entertaining. It's not funny. And no one will read them anyway.
If you want Quality Git Entertainment without the cussing or offensiveness, just take a look at Danimation.
Currently, over there, I am talking about how much I respect people with the 'courage' to believe in God. Over here, I'm insulting the same people.
(I dig the id-ego concept - I will never let it die)
I prefer the latter.
Here's what I've discovered: You have to have a sense of fun about things. That's a thing that's completely lacking on Danimation, and dying out here.
If people took themselves seriously and started acting 'mature', this is what we'll see:
Ask yourself, do you really want to see posts like the one above posted everywhere? Melodramatic, depressing, ill-concienved, long-winded bullshit? This thread is kinda silly.
Kind of sad.
Kind of depressing.
Of course, you have to understand that in countries outside America, we don't have a packaged image of our nation shoved down our throats at every single minute, which would explain this particular incident.
I'm sure no disrespect was intended.
Speaking personally, on the English national anthem - I don't know it. Even if I did, I sure as Hell wouldn't sing it.
I'm sure most Canadians feel this way. I'm going to try and explain it.
You see, everytime I turn on the Fox News Channel, all I see are flags. It's the main component of their graphics. It's so completely alien and hostile, so menacing and dangerous-looking.
It has nothing to do with policies I do or don't support.
I don't hate my country, but I believe that loving it is the stupidest thing that an individual could possibly do. Not to mention dangerous.
Everywhere I look in America, I see nothing but patriotism choking everyone's ideas and individuality, consolidating everyone into one big whole, one big machine.
I don't like symbols, I don't like patriotism, I don't like anthems. These things are too much like Nazi Germany, or National Socialism than I care for. Loyalty is something which blinds judgement, and it's something that can theoretically redefine our moral standards.
If there is anything to be loyal to, anything to be proud of, it's that little bit of paper your country was founded upon, the principals on which all of this was built, the foundations of the modern world. Ideas, and ideals, moral standards and beliefs are to be respected, not something as totally meaningless and disturbing as flags and anthems. These things designed to ingrain themselves upon our social identity, become a part of us, until hating it is like hating yourself.
Chanting slogans, phrases, using symbols, like skinheads at a neo-Nazi rally - is that something to be proud of? Is that thinking for yourself?
Because this is what patriotism is. Another propoganda tool designed to manipulate your judgement.
I don't hate my country. I don't even hate my government. I agree with the stance their taking, and admire them for following through on their convictions despite the massive public backlash. These things are based on reason and logic, not loyalty to something abstract and potentially evil. I'm not going to fall in love with an animal that has teeth and could bite. Because these things occasionally need to be put down.
Every picture, every painting of Saddam Hussein in Iraq is a reflection of every flag raised in America.
And what do you have then? Drones killing drones?
Turning a blind eye to every 'little' atrocity, because they have to support their 'team', their massive mob.
Lemmings follow each other off cliffs.
And all this, all designed for you to lose a bit of yourself, to die a little, for your country, and in its own little way, become a part of it. Like some kind of perverted trinity. Except with two parts. Yes, that's right. Like me and Kiri-, I mean, "Basara".
Look at this thread. One guy claims that he'd boo the national anthem too. And you tell him he can't say that. You tell him he shouldn't feel that way. You act like it's a crime. You act like he has forfeited his right to be an American.
How sad is that?
How utterly depressing is that?
The things we do, the sacrifices we make, the things we believe, all out of love. Not for our God, not for each other, but for something indefinable,
All those Jews killed, out of love.
All those countries invaded and conquered, out of love.
All those people dead, out of love.
Everything raped.
All out of love.
Maybe we should quit being paedophiles. Maybe we should stop loving and start thinking.
Maybe we should become ourselves again, and pry our selfimage away from the state.
But that's just me.
And I always was a bit outthere.
In any case, this is the way most people outside America feel. They don't see National Anthems the way you guys do.
Put up a Union Jack over here, and you will be branded a racist. I'm not kidding.
Burning a flag doesn't seem like much of a big deal.
Once again, it's a cultural difference.
And how quickly have I become an expert in those?
That's something I wrote on Danimation. I'm sure Coaster Ed is cumming as we speak. The rest of us are bored out of our fucking skulls.
I certainly couldn't tolerate NewElement becoming as truly colourless as Danimation.
Ask yourself, do you really want to see posts like the one above posted everywhere?
I could write 'intelligent' things all the fucking time.
I simply choose not to.
I choose to write things which people will be entertained by. Even if means lying my ass off about every little thing. Even if it means pissing people off, cussing like a fucking champion, and shitting on your beliefs.
Maybe if more people started treating themselves as objects for the sole purpose of amusing others, we might actually have a good forum on our hands.
Now, please. None of this shit matters. Quit whining about it. -

Bottom, I see therapy's coming along just fine.

Only swear if you really need to, because you could just get away with 'stupid' or 'idiot', your still calling people bad things, and they react to them, swearing is going out to the full extent, trying to make people feel as bad as possible.
I mean, Supreme Being told me to fuck of back to rct2.com, why couldn't he just say, Go back to rct2.com, you stupid idiot', by using the swearword in the first one, i felt really bad, but if he called me a stupid idiot, i wouldnt have felt so bad because he sucks.

Probably, it's all just because I haven't had good posts at NE for a looooooooooong while and now that I do, I'm totally overwhelmed. It was amusing, had almost no insults (a fact I was totally amazed by) and I actually could understand it all well.
The only thing I don't agree on with was when you said that pissing someone of is entertainment for the readers. I think it's only "entertaining" for yourself. At least I get annoyed when people do it because they force you to laugh with them while they are actually being pathetic.
I'm also not really sure if everyone is supposed to amuse people on a forum. You described it as some sort of competition. "Who's best at making people laugh gets most respect". This is way too dangerous and therefore can't be right (at least I hope it isn't). If we all did that we'd end up having fronts for every kind of situation, which some people already do, and selling ourselves for others. Is that a good thing? I do not think so.
Still, I think that your idea of "the perfect forum" was basically right. I got to start thinking how I could get my sense of humor into English...
