Football or soccer?

Which team will win?

let's just hope we will be 1st in the poule if brazil comes out second because of this, i don't know if we'll be able to beat brazil again like we did in 2010

    I don't like Brazil.

You're just saying that because you're afraid of them when they possibly play against the Dutch in the next round :D  It wasn't a penalty, but Brazil won fair enough. They were stronger than Croatia in my opinion.

  • Liampie%s's Photo

I've changed my mind a bit. I'd say The Netherlands are no less than yesterday's Brazil. Croatia put up a fight (I agree that Brazil was a bit stronger, but not much) and I'd place The Netherlands above Croatia. So it could be an interesting match. But let's get out of the group first...

I don't think Holland is as good as Croatia, or Brazil... I'm curious to the game this evening, I don't expect much from the Dutch but the first game can always be strange. Half of the Dutch team plays in the Eredivisie so I don't get the optimism from you Dutchmen...

I really hope my homecountry and Spain get a revenge match.

Spain vs. The Netherlands in an almighty battle to the death!

    um...

We'll see today at 9 won't we? Let's hope to see de jong give another kick to the chest
  • Liampie%s's Photo

Not everything from the Eredivisie is garbage, Fred. 4 years ago, I think most people would agree that Stekelenburg was one of the key players in the Dutch team. He played at Ajax, as did Van der Wiel, another player that started every game. And it's not like non-Eredivisie players like Heitinga and Mathijsen were world-class back then... The general consensus on the internet seems that evey player who's not in one of the big leagues is shit per definition.

We'll see today at 9 won't we? Let's hope to see de jong give another kick to the chest

Are you kidding? That was a nightmare.

Red cards suck, but us kicking spanish ass (or chest) has been awesome since the 16th century
  • Stoksy%s's Photo

Agree completely with Liam, just because certain players aren't playing in a "big league" doesn't mean that they're not quality players. In my opinion Spain are past their best, I think the Dutch are in with a good chance; especially if the front three fire.

Eredisivisie is hardly better than our Jupiler Pro League, and your competition has the handicap of not knowing how to defense properly. Most of the players from 2010 played in foreign and bigger competitions, at bigger clubs. They know how it was to play against the best players in the world. Martins Indi, Kongolo, De Vrij, Blind,... don't know what it's like to play against players like Silva, Aguero, Messi, etc.

I'm not saying they haven't enough talent, but they are just too young right now to make a difference against a big team like Spain. And I expect Chile to beat Holland as well since they have excellent offense players. In 2010 you had maybe 2 players that weren't world class (but still decent)... Now I only see 3 world class players at Oranje (Robben, Van Persie, Sneijder).

Quite sad GDB howx you hope that De Jong will kick some Spanish players like he did with Xabi in 2010... It's a world cup football, not karate... See, that's why I dislike most of the Dutch football fans. If they lose, they grow so much hate against the team they lost from. Lucky you guys have fans like Liampie as well!

  • Lotte%s's Photo
You almost sound butthurt, besides robben, sneijder and van persie we also have players like the jong and we still have players like vlaar and heitinga in our defense. Also i wasb't actually serious about the chest kicking thing, it's just a joke, maybe a bad one. And if you don't think we can beat chile then something isn't right, who do they have? Alexis sanchez? And ehh, some other guys playing in other spanish teams?

Fred, Ajax playes Champions League every year, and every year they put up a fight. This year they destroyed Barcelona, competed against AC Milan (could've won if it weren't for Balotelli) last year they butchered Manchester City unlike any other team had done in months, did well against Real Madrid and Dortmund too, and before that they defeated Manchester United. In short, it's not true that Eredivise players don't know what it's like to play at the highest level. And this is all in addition to the national team, which did face strong opponents in during the past two year.

And before you mention that Ajax was knocked out by Salzburg, didn't Spain lose against South fucking Africa?

My point is that the Dutch players are not as inexperienced and/or shitty as some people make them out to be. They're most likely not winning, but it's definitely possible and realistic.

  • FredD%s's Photo

who do they have? Alexis sanchez? And ehh, some other guys playing in other spanish teams?

Bahaha some old fashioned Oranje arrogance!

Alexis Sanchez, Vidal, Bravo, Isla, Medel and a coach who's a Bielsa adept. I'm not saying they have way more quality than Oranje, it's gonna be tight. But the team of Chile is favorite against Holland in my eyes. Btw, 'some players in the Spanish competition'... that Spanish competition is the best competition in the world, or the 2nd best (only Premier League comes close/beats them). So I wouldn't be so denigrating about that Piggynator!

Liamps: I know what Ajax did, but how many of them are in the national squad? Blind is on his best as defending midfielder but probably has to play als left back. He loses a lot of his qualities on that position. What a pity Van Gaal didn't select Emanuelson.

Anything can happen in football, but you got to admit that if Oranje wins (or even draws) tonight it will be a stunt. Also I think it's weird when defense is your biggest problem, the coach decides to play with 5 of them... I'm not saying your squad is shitty, but it is a fact a lot of them are inexperienced.

In addition to what most say of Spain being over their level. I'm not quite sure. Winning 4 big tournaments in a row would be crazy and I don't believe in it. But that doesn't make them bad or worse than 4 years ago... They still have loads of talent ready. Just look at their selection, it's just crazy... And than think that Thiago, Alberto, Inigo Martinez, Jesus Navas, Negredo, Isco, Mario Suarez, Carvajal,... are not even selected! The quality they have is amazing, looking forward to the game tonight!

As an American, I don't really understand any of that^, let alone care about it. But I guess Europe probably feels the same way about our sports

  • Lotte%s's Photo

blasphemy csw, also he made the 1-1!

edit: holy crap 2-1! daley blind isn't as blind as his last name says he is ;)

  • csw%s's Photo

I do have to say, that Van Persie header was pretty sweet. Probably the coolest thing I've seen in soccer

  • Lotte%s's Photo

his body was like a dolphin!

  • Lotte%s's Photo

holy crap i'm dreaming 4-1, spain is being kicked in the nuts

HOLY FUCK! 5-1! this is fenomenal! and you told us not losing would be a stunt fred
