RCT Discussion / Trying to take the next step

I am absolutely new here, so hello!

So, recently I have been playing RCT 2 a lot lately on my older desktop, simply for nostalgias sake. Then I came across this site, and some Youtube videos over the last few weeks. I'm simply amazed what people have been able to do with this game ... and I wanted to get started. But I don't really know how.

    I'm going to be setting up a copy of RCT on my Win 8 Laptop and start collecting some add-ons and custom stuff. Here are some questions I've had;

    1) How has RCT w/ utilities fared on Win 8? Any problems I should be concerned about?

    2) What Utilities should I be using off the start?

    3) What custom items would people recommend? I'm kind of a packrat when it comes to scenery and rides so I don't mind.

    4) Scenario Editer Item limit in-game, do any of the utilities get around that

    5) More of an opinion question, Realism vs Fantasy? What seems to be the going trend?

    6) Any tips on buildings?

    7) Recommended stuff I should look at?

I guess that's it for now, probably will have more as I get into this and hopefully contribute some smal stufffor the end of the year. Great to be here! :)

As with anything creative: DO YOUR OWN THING!

Don't orientate on others, look inside yourself. Only look at other people's stuff so you don't do the same and stay unique. Again, the key to uniqueness is to follow what the creative voice within you says.

And you need a lot of practice of course.

    1) Look at my topic in Ask the Experts.

    2) 8cars is incredibly useful to have, a must download

    3) Download loads of parks and you'll build up a great collection of custom scenery

    4) Nope

    5) This argument should never be brought up :p

    6) Again, download loads of parks and you'll be inspired

    7) A lot of spotlights, golds and designs. Take a look at overviews and download what takes your fancy

    Welcome to the site :)

    3) I'd take an older bench, the Pro Tour 1 and Pro Tour 2 bench for example. I think they're in the database. Modern benches have too much small scenery, which seems to confuse new players. Not good if you want to learn how to bring your ideas to life. But this is just my personal opinion.

    5) As creativity has declined here over the years, realism has become a more popular 'genre'. Fantasy, semi-realism and whatever other genres you might recognize, remain alive and kicking however. I wouldn't build from a 'genre', though. Build from your ideas and you'll see where it takes you.

    6) Less is more/cut the crap

    7) I agree with posix to an extent, but if you're new to the art of RCT I can understand that you'd like to get acquinted with the flavours that NE has to offer; there are many. These are some parks I consider NE canon, a super compact summary of the history of RCT2 on NE: Rivers of Babylon, Isole Calabria, Rocky Mountain Mystique, Realms of Creation, Zippo's Wacky World of Wonders, Six Flags Carolina, Dreamport. This list is only restricted to spotlights. In other release categories (gold, design, contests) there is much more different content to be found. I recommend exploring our database: http://www.nedesigns.com/parks/ Using the tags on the right you can filter the database by multiple criteria.

If you've found a building school of your linking, this link might be useful for learning more: http://www.nedesigns...ar-anniversary/ (a year-by-year written history of NE)

I have would say the most important factor in playing is to have fun while playing. Don't do things that you don't enjoy to satisfy others. Play the game how you want to play!

Thanks for all the replies, guys!

I think a lot of people here misunderstood me, though. I do have fun playing the game, and I don't want to be an imitation of everything else on here. I merely just wanted to get a leg up on some CS and some parks to look at to see successful ideas and how they function.

But, anyways, I'll see if I can't get a park up here sometime soon :p
