Theme Park Discussion / New B&M's 2014

Why not though? It doesn't look particularly great on their resume that they basically copied another company. I'm sure that this won't have been anywhere near as profitable as their normal builds either. Of course I'm not sure how it works in the world of coasters, but in any other business model producing a product copied from an already existing one for whatever reason gets you in a lot of shit. I'm just imagining it wouldn't be too different here. Maybe not this model, but if they carry on building these, perhaps in somewhere other than China, I wouldn't be too surprised if we saw a lawsuit against B&M.

Why would you turn down business? Money is money.

No lawsuit possible, the layouts are different.

Oasis have been sued numerous times for copying songs, even if the end result is 'different', but still similar to the original.

Obviously a completely different profession but plagiarism is plagiarism no matter where it takes place, the law doesn't differentiate that. The only reason B&M might get away with it here is because it's in China where their laws on this kinda stuff basically says that as long as there is one feature different no matter how small, then it can be marketed as original.

They try this in America, they will get sued, I'm willing to bet on it.

I dont think they would get sued. The difference with music is its all copyrighted. Coasters aren't. if Vekoma wanted to replicate a Batman clone there isnt really anything B&M could do to stop them.

Anyhoo, i doubt b&m would have done this if there was a risk of a lawsuit.

I have a theory for this.

The first 3 HV parks all had Vekoma model rides with their SLC's and Mine trains (Shenzhen, Beijing & Chengdu) The following 3 all had knock off Vekoma rides (Shanghai, Wuhan and Tianjin) I find that odd.

Now whats funny in all this is Vekoma built Shenlin at Happy Valley in Shenzhen

Golden Horse built Flare Meteor at Fantaworld

Vekoma built a modified layout with extra helix at HV Beijing and Chengdu.

and then Golden Horse built the same at the next Fantaworld

I cant prove it and this is all conjecture understand but its possible Vekoma refused to work with HV after what happened above (Vekoma didn't build these rides anywhere else in China so HV is the only real possibility of the plagiarism happening)

It would also kind of explain why they went with B&M here.

Could be completely rubbish but that's my interpretation of events.

And I'd bet it would do just as well as when Cedar Point were trying to be sued for copying a Star Flyer. I doubt Vekoma is going to put out money for a small chance of winning the case. They'd just be losing money. But you seem to be the type that is "always right" and will stick by something even when something been proven otherwise.
