I like Garbage, but for some reason that whole album (Beautiful Garbage) makes me ill. Perhaps I should listen to it again and again (to get used to it), but I better not get sick. The album always seemed too sugary pop sweet to me compared to the first two albums, and is rather the equivalent to the newer Jewel and Liz Phair albums, in that the indie/alternative feel is gone, and replaced by corporate crap. Shirley Manson was already better than Britney, Christina, etc..., so why turn her into one? Same for the other two...
You really should give it another chance, honestly. Not only is it one of the greatest pop albums ever (and better than their first two) it is also supposed to be sugary. Not in a corporate "Well, you really need a more commercial sound" sense of the word. But rather in the Blondie sense of the word.
It is so fucking sugary, it becomes hardcore via irony. On top of that, it contains some of their greatest songs. In fact, it contains most every one of their greatest songs.
Although, if you want incredibly brooding, dark, "Alternative" Pop with a Psuedo-Gothic edge, I could of course see why it might let you down. It's really just a brilliant piece of pop. Accept it as that, and you'll love it. -

"The indian spirits, are laughing at you."Gary Busey dropping knowledge on that poor little Comedy Central sob.
That's the most hillarious thing, too bad I missed that episode. -

Well....I do like alterna-pop better than regular pop normally....and the psuedo-gothic edge of the first two albums IS what started me liking them in the first place, but I think you've convinced me...probably the Blondie reference to be honest is what did it.You really should give it another chance, honestly. Not only is it one of the greatest pop albums ever (and better than their first two) it is also supposed to be sugary. I don't have it with me at work today, but I'll bring it tomorrow...I'll even ignore the style they had on "Garbage" and "Version 2.0", and listen to BG as if I'd never heard of Garbage ever. I can say that so far, when comparing it to the others, it has failed miserably. Perhaps ignoring the older ones will do it, perhaps not.
We shall see.
Currently listening to Nirvana -> "Drain You", cos well, it's been a good few months since I've heard the whole Nevermind album, and I'm feeling nostalgic today. Perhaps if I'm in the same mood tomorrow, I'll listen to some Cracker. Yea, yea, me and the 90's music....oh well, but that's when I was your age, so there. Oh, and I didn't forget BG.
