Yeah, you gotta dig the 3 minutes of meaningless near-silence right in the middle of it. Musical GENIUS.Ticks and Leeches is also a tight song.

I admit it gets boring, but look at its effect. Having the refrain come back in the last 20 seconds of the song after not being heard for probably 5 1/2 minutes is one of the reasons I like that song. If there was nothing in between, the song would seem too compact in my opinion.
I think the drum solo at the beginning in 7/8 time is the best part, though.
I'm listening to that song right now. -

Silly QOTSA, that is the only good part of the entire fucking song.Yeah, you gotta dig the 3 minutes of meaningless near-silence right in the middle of it. Musical GENIUS.
Anyway, you're all faggots (especially you, QOTSA, what with your recieved-opinions, and shit): The best track on Lateralus (in fact, the only "great" one) is clearly Faaip De Oiad.
Some guy wrote into Mark Prindle's brand-new Tool review page claiming Tool should give up on metal and just become a noise band. I am in agreement. They'd be good at it! Better than that stupid Mike Patton prick. I heard Maldoror (who is that, anyway? Current 93 is obssessed with that name), Mike Patton's collaboration with Merzbow. From AMG:
"These two notorious avant-garde noise experimentalists have joined forces on this debut album, She, to produce, well, avant-garde experimental noise."
Fucking terrible. Nowhere near as bad as the noise tracks on that one Aphex Twin EP, though. That shit was fucking rotton.
Speakin of noise, Nurse With Wound's debut album was called "Chance Meeting On A Dissection Table". No, I didn't make that up. Brilliant, isn't it!
Speaking of dark-ambient, Entry Of The Crims is fucking terrifying. In fact, it sounds almost exactly like one of the tracks from Aphex Twin's SAW2, except with atonal Fripp solos all over it. Scary shit, let me tell you.
Anywayz.

This sounds like one of the drill-n-bass tracks from Aphex Twin's DrukQs, except, with atonal Fripp solos all over it. Scary shit. But un-fucking-believably awesome. As for the WICKED FAST BEATS, they're samples triggered OVER each other from Adrian Belew's V-drum kit. Yes, that's right. The Belewbeloid plays drums on this one. Fun!
Back to Merzbow. See, I don't have anything against the fucker, right, but the thing is this: I can't quite tolerate 40 minutes of sustained (and unchanging) layers of abrasive noises. I mean. Fuck, man. It's only good in small doses! That is the only thing that seperates noise from ambient, in fact...
Now, I'll tell you this, too:
If Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music was three minutes long, it would be fucking brilliant. But, again. You can't listen to the same fucking noise for... How long is that piece of shit, again?
Yeah....
The guy above me is gay.
