RCT Discussion / Will we see a Spotlight in 2013?

Its been nearly 1.5 years since the site released its last spotlight and nearly 6 months since the last gold. Are people just not building full scale "parks" anymore. I know I'm not building anymore but what about others? I know of only a few possible winners and those are still far from complete.
I'm curious why this might be happening. Is it the ubber detailing that it takes to win gold/spotlight too daunting? It takes far too long to build a gold/spotlight winning park? Is it lack of motivation? Is it lack of inspiration to build something new and fresh? Is it even possible to build a spotlight park with the bar being set so high and the limitations of the game?
For me, its all of the above, but what about everyone else.
I feel the days of large scale parks are a thing of the past. Are there options to reverse this trend? It would be a shame to only see design entries going forward. -

Detailing and a decline in activity over the past few years certainly explains the spotlight drought... However, I'm sure we'll see more spotlights in the future. Pacificoaster's park is far along. CP6 is working on a park and he always finishes. I don't know about robbie but he has some good big parks going on. And J K is about to start his next piece. Highball is still 'in the cloud' as well, his Disney park is looking great. And there's probably more. I know I'm not done. -

I agree that it's all of the above. Over detailing takes alot out of a builder, leading to one building sapping all of ones inspiration. The bar is also set ridiculously high, i mean, when was the last time we saw a gold?
Unfortunately, a lot of the older ideas used in full scale parks mean that people judge them as "time capsules" or "throwbacks" to older styles, thus they are seen as good but not innovative or amazing. I don't think we won't see anymore full scale parks, i just don't think they will ever be as numerous as they were.

I agree with you. A full scale park with a high detail level needs so much time. My actual work, the "Spessart Park" is on a 115² field and it needs still a lot of time to finish it. I think the most people want a quicker success with their parks. -

Probably a combination of highly detailed building, very harsh voting and some major builders being demotivated and dropping/freezing work after H2H6? Might be more reasons too, anyways, don't see any Spotlights coming up in the near future.
Anyone care to prove me wrong though? -

The standard for spotlights seems to get higher with each release. Spotlights from a few years ago would now probably get gold, and older gold parks would be lucky to get silver. H2H seems mostly responsible for raising the bar since those parks are smaller, and therefore easier to finish with extreme detail. We get used to seeing more detail, which is harder to accomplish in a full size park. I have been working on Horsetooth for over a year now, but will probably be at least a year or two before (if ever) I manage to finish it. Architecture has always been my weakness in building, and takes a lot more time to not end up looking like shit. I can make detailed realistic rides with ease, but rides do not get a park good scores like architecture does. -

I think for me its perfectionism + low motivation + little time + no external pressure (like in H2H)
That said, I just opened the game after several months. I placed 3 trees and 7 shrubs. That took about 20 minutes. Then I lost my motivation again. -

There will be a spotlight im sure, Maybe not in 2013. But something is in the making right now... If i told you i would have to kill you.... all of you.
Something this site has never seen or likely to see. -

Probably a combination of... very harsh voting
oh, please.
it's a spotlight for a reason. gold quality parks win gold. gold quality parks with a wow factor win spotlight. and well, there just hasn't been much wow factor lately. aside from inspired ideas being flawlessly executed in game, extreme detailing is what wows us in rct. we've seen so many screens of amazing architecture with details you wouldn't think possible in this game that we now hold that the standard. to hold that quality across a 100x100+ park is rarely seen. until we see that, a new spotlight won't exist.
so i think your're dead right when it comes to extreme detailing being the downfall of spotlights but 'harsh' voting isn't one of the reasons. -

Thanks for the call out Liam. As many of you know Starpointe is indeed far along. Production has come to a hault because of how busy I have been with school this semester. With that said, I am sure I speak for many of us when I say that college is much more important at the moment. After this semester I do intend on finishing the park. I am anticipating it to win gold or so but if it wins spotlight that would be very gratifying. -

If it is what I think it is. It won't get finished. Or a couple of persons have somehow gotten the drive to actually finish their shit. Although they do have a lot of time on their hands nowadays. -

Somehow, I know what this is, and yeah...it's never gonna be released. -

I've been working on a full scale park for a while now, no chance of me getting an accolade at this point. -

I'm trying to finish Agencia in 2013 summer sometime as well. Will be working on a lot of it this winter break. Don't know if it is spotlight caliber yet but I'm hoping so.
