Democracy

Mr. Obama of course. my man.

I don't support gay marraige or abortion. Marriage, has been for over 2,000 years and should always be, a sacred union of a man and a woman. Let them do what they want, it's just an insult to call it a marraige. Why not a union or something along those lines? As for abortion, it's just another name for murder to a helpless person.

I don't have the time or energy to tell you all the reasons you're wrong. Just please know that you are and stop spouting your hate.

I'm constantly amazed that the republican party can keep a straight face while claiming to represent both the libertarians and Christian right, which tries to limit freedoms in the way this guy up here thinks should happen. Vote away, i'm sure they'll some day come up with a paradoxical solution that can represent both completely oppositional view points.

Or better yet - don't vote. Come election day, pray instead!

    ^This is good advice.

I can't believe the republican party is so big still. Living in the south I know a suprising few people who are in favor of Romney, and most of the people that do support him do it for one reason: guns.
  • Midnight Aurora%s's Photo
Again, another false dichotomy of the two party system. Obama's record is firmly in the laissez-faire category on guns. But Romney claims to be pro-gun, so clearly his opponent MUST be against them... Simple [incorrect] logic.

    ^Truth.

And as I said, Obama seems to not really care about gun control too much. I've heard Gary Johnson is very pro-second-amendment but I haven't seen or heard anything about him at all, except what my libertarian friends and family post on Facebook. It's not an important enough issue at the moment compared to other things to really bother about, both as a voter and as a candidate. I just watched the Daily Show interview with Obama from last night, and while some of it was still the usual aspirational speech, Obama does seem to be trying to get a little more facts-and-numbers oriented, which is a good thing in my mind.

well, rct2day, you have just proved that you are an unsympathetic, sheltered 11 year old. good job.

Both parties are a joke, but Rct2day, your post is a perfect example of hypocrisy in the Republican Party. They are so self righteous about abortion, yet are pro-guns, pro-death penalty and pro-war. It seems as if they want all those unwanted babies just to fight the wars and fill the prisons later in life. If you look at rates of violent crime in the U.S., there was a drop beginning in 1991, 18 years after Roe v. Wade was passed. Just the age which these potential unwanted babies would become adults and turn to crime, a common issue with children feeling unwanted. Think of how many more lives have been saved just by having fewer potential murderous criminals. And for gay marriage, the government should have no involvement. If marriage is so sacred, then why is divorce so common and easy to do? Why should the government interfere with a healthy relationship if it does not fit an outdated definition?

I just really really really don't get how people can not support gay marriage. Yes for over 2000 years its been man and woman only but that's because for over 2000 years there has been an incredible amount of hate towards being gay, so of course there's never been the chance of it ever being anything other than man and woman so your argument is slightly flawed. I find it appalling that you think it's an insult. I'm a man, so I should have the same rights as any other man on this goddamn planet, I should be allowed to marry the person I love, regardless of whether they are a another man or a woman. Sacredness has nothing to do with it, it's basic human rights.

Right, a gay marriage may not be a marriage according to your interpretation of this abstract concept, but do you honestly think your religion owns the monopoly on truth? Marriage is just an institution, a construct, shared by many (if not all) cultures all over the planet. Christian and non-christian.

This is a good point. Why should the Christian definition of marriage be prescribed for everyone when there are many marriages between non-Christian couples? Why are Christians always trying to force their faith on everyone else?

Guys, relax. It's just my opinion, you don't have to agree or accept it as a fact or the views of America nor the general population. I just brought it up in response to Cardinal Dolan's and the Catholic church's opposition to Obama's policies.

well, rct2day, you have just proved that you are an unsympathetic, sheltered 11 year old. good job.

I don't mind people questioning my opinion. Like me, they're entitled to their own position and I respect them for that, even if they call me wrong or an idiot. But I was only really offended by this one. As someone who works as a volunteer in New York at hospitals and on the streets, where I personally speak with these people struggling with starving children, I understand the realities of life and the difficulties faced by others. I'm not going to just flash my resume to prove what I do for others, just don't make these assumptions because you disagree with me. Again, opinion.

EDIT: I expect another onslaught from this too.

DOUBLE EDIT: I don't think gays are immoral, disgusting, or anything like that. I know gays and consider them respectable people. I just have an opinion on marriage. Relax guys.

As well you should. You came onto a forum with many gay members to tell them they're wrong based on faulty, archaic logic. Claiming that you're only stating an opinion doesn't absolve you. I'm sorry that you find gay people icky, but they're going to continue fucking each other and you need to learn to get over that.

I'm ecstatic that you volunteer with children. I just hope that you're a bit less condescending towards them.

I personally couldn't give a care about those issues myself. I also hate it when overly religious people think marriage is only to be between a man and a woman. I am pretty sure that most marriages throughout history were engagements of polygamy. I don't consider homosexuals "immoral," and it only brings my blood to a boil when people are bullied because of such a stupid reason.

I myself am more democratic, yet firmly believe that guns should be legal to a certain extent, I just think that hunting or depending oneself with a Rocket Propelled Grenade would be just a little bit excessive

For abortion, I don't dislike it because it is "murder." I just find it extremely irresponsible. If you can't gather the means of supporting a child, don't have one in the first place. Instead of legalizing it, we should improve our education and standards and leave abortion only for extreme cases.

To conclude, I only dislike a lot of republicans because they are delusional, hypocritical, and near-sighted. I would like a president that cares about education, the working class, and most importantly, the environment. Republicans generally only care about profit. Why else would they try to prevent social services, outsource jobs and encourage drilling and fossil fuels. If a republican detects one flaw, they think the entire idea is wrong. That is why a lot of republicans are fierce creationists.

Damn! jaguar, that was pretty strong, and to be perfectly honest, quite a bit unexpected! =)

    Strong and true!

LOL honestly, from a European point of view, some republican viewpoints sound medieval. It's unreal.
